  • I used to wake up to this blaring from my mum's radio through the house every Saturday morning. This and Van McCoy's "The Shuffle", the theme to Sport on Four. Ah, for the early 80's again...

  • Cheers for the great Hylton! Thanks for this great recording!

  • This is as good a place as any to ask...

Anybody know what the theme tune was to Sport on 4, which preceded Breakaway on a Saturday morning? Someone online thinks Van McCoy's The Hustle, but that's not right.

  • @RubyChewLips it was Van McCoy - but his other hit "The Shuffle", not "The Hustle".

  • great! i think the3 ambrose version (late twenties or 1930 is slightly better

  • I picked this up from Amazon a few weeks ago after vaguely searching for it over the years. Superb stuff - and of course fond memories of Bernard Falk, Pete McCarthy and Radio 4 on a Saturday morning before they replaced it all with that miserable programme that seems to be permanently talking about death! :( It never occurred to me to look it up on here - Thanks for putting it up!

  • great sound quality on recording

  • Great late 20s sound (used to listen to Rad 4 Breakaway just for this as well!)

Sam Browne would get my vote over Pat O'Malley. Thanks.

  • Didn't Ella Logan record with this orchestra?

  • Ambrose

  • Is the fat guy in the straw hat Fatty Arbuckle?

  • Yes it's Arbuckle, and the girl's Mabel Normand, both of whom were dead by the early 30s under sort of sad circumstances, considering their wealth, fame and lofty position of just a few years before-

  • I have a BRILLIANT version of "Big City Blues" on Sterno, yes that was the film.

  • Yes a Radio 4 series on Saturday mornings, I always ended up reaching for my Jack Hylton L.P and therefore missing the broadcast!!

  • I used to tune in just to hear this but never actually listened i think to the show!Love the snatch of the other tune,i think "big city blues".Believe this came from "Fox Movietone Follies of 1929"
