i saw DM perform live in the early 90's (thanks to a good friend who got us tickets) - was a pure treat... electrifying performance... it's hard to describe the amount of magnetism Gahan possesses and the synergy between band members... from 5:02 on in this video sums it up - EVERYONE in that stadium has their hands up BECAUSE HE TELLS THEM TO ?!?!?!?!<333333

This was such a welcome sight back in 1998, Depeche Mode were all but finished a couple of years before this.

Goes to show, a strong band will always overcome problems. Dave Gahan at his best again.

It's absolutely visible here, that Dave was really looking forward for the waving ! :)) He was like.. "I can't stay to wait" because they began sooner and more energetic.. and the camera !!

@SirMastriani - this was recorded in 1998 in Germany. It was part of the Single's 86-98 tour. The first mini tour they went on after Dave's overdose and collapse of the Songs of Faith and Devotion tour a few years earlier.

I understand your disappointment, but it's not like he did it on purpose. Good thing he feels better now. But I think they should've rescheduled at least some of those European shows, rather than do a bunch of shows in Germany, even giving several shows in one city.

German fans, I have nothing against you, it just seems unfair for all those Prague, Romania, Greek etc fans..

Have a look at the poster in the crowd when everyone is waving " We´ll never let you down" was written on it. I will never forget, because we were standing in front of a camera man. He pushed it out of our hands " Take it away we are filming" We did not care and it was worth it, we were filmed from the stage... Greets Alex and Jenny

Hi Clubdead, sorry if I have written my reply in a bit arrogant manner. Most of the people who write their comments on DM are familiar with the band members and their roles in making and playing their music. Alan Wilder was the only real musician in DM. Unfortunately, he left in 95 after 13 yrs in DM. A lot was lost with his departure as he was very important in making the typical DM sound.

OK,Peter Gordeno is the keyboardist for live shows but he isn´t a band member,nor is Christian Eigner - the drummer. Depeche Mode in their "classic" line-up were a really weird band for many reasons.They had all different roles in the band. Dave - the singer, sex symbol, drug consumer, Martin - the songwriter, the boss, the alcoholic, Alan - the sound maker, the hardworker, Andy - Martin´s friend, the clumsy dancer and hand-waver at gigs

Martin isn't a "real" musician? Yikes. Yes, we all loved Alan and were bummed out when he left and the "typical" DM sound did change but there's a lot of great Depeche songs post-95. Their music has evolved but the songs (and sound) are still great.
