This is full of code, he is wearing purple, Marie wears purple, at 2:00 the number 8 is seen on the spaceship behind him, or is it a spaceship, it looks more like a tank of some sort, the number 8 and purple are all over Breaking Bad. I know the producers are fans of David Lynch.
Gale Boetticher, but they do not pronounce it the way it is spelled, they say Gale Binnaker. Binnaker rhymes with spinnaker, a type of sail used on a sailboat, during a gale you must take down your spinnaker to save the ship, is that where they get his name from?
ah it brings me back to my childhood on the ranch, back in 81 my daddy use to bounce me on his lap while watching this on YouTube :') it brings a tear to my eye to know this guy is dead but one thing that will never die is the memories and happiness he brought to our meth peddling business :') Gale will never die <3
I tried to explain why this scene was so sad to my friend who has never seen BrBa. It's impossible to convey it in words. Too many details. Such complex and intricate writing.
You really build a short bond with Gale as he's such a likeable character, with his little coffee experiment... you can see that he may have gone to Thailand and made this really bad karaoke video
The moment that made Gale feel the most human to me was a very tiny detail, but it had resounding impact. Before Jesse shot him, Gale had a kettle on and was making tea. Specifically, though, Gale is watching the temperature of the water to make sure that it is perfectly. Such a small thing, but so in character.
@VastHobbes Drug manufacturing inherently involves everyone's bullshit. Gale was really naive and did commit a fault, to play a wolf's game while being a sheep.
Obviously on the surface this is funny, but as you keep watching it is so intensely sad and haunting. I absolutely love(d) this eccentric character and this actor is so fantastic at portraying him.
@stephenie27 Exactly. It was somewhat funny when I saw it on the show, but then Walt's reaction and you could feel how tense the scene was that I didn't find it as funny. I feel bad when I watch this, like I am actually watching someone who was murdered. It's hypnotizing too. The only problem, is Gale wearing a fanny pack? That's too much! even the nerd of all nerds knows there is a time and place for a fanny pack and karaoke is not it!
@NothinGBetteRPJMaN Yeah for sure. The top comment really nails it too. This whole show is so incredibly good. It's FICTION yet I feel so emotionally invested in it and mentally affected, for example, in the way you described when watching this scene. But LOL I can't tell if it's a fanny pack but if so Gale is intense. I am totally diggin' his bandana-kerchief-scarf neck thing though haha.
@NothinGBetteRPJMaN Just reminds me how good the show is (I watched the whole thing from S1 to S4 in the past few weeks!)... it really DOES feel rather haunting, like he was a real tragic murder victim and not an actor in a funny role when you watch this. Kudos to David Costabile for taking a rather small role and making it have such an impact... and of course the show's writers, for creating the part in the first place!
I agree, it's funny in terms of taking it as what it is but the placement in the show took all the humor out of it. Like Walt was more scared of Hank learning something than he was horrified at what he did to this dorky but innocent man; not many people seemed to recognize that. More than anything this showed how cold Walt has become.
@GlassEyes8 Really? I thought at that moment in the show, Walt definitely looked maybe not horrified about what he/Jesse did to Gale but maybe a little annoyed he had to be reminded that an innocent man had to be killed and this video showed that Gale had a life outside of producing meth.
And not many people seemed to recognize that? So did Gilligan come out and say that is exactly what Walt was expressing or is it left open to interpretation like most sources of entertainment/art?
@NothinGBetteRPJMaN Well you seem to be taking my opinion in an overly literal way, and of course it's all opinion based. What I meant is Walt looks overwhelmed and has this "Oh s***" look when he sees the video and I take that as a bit of guilt but more fear of Hank's involvement. Then the next part has him sneaking in and flipping through the files without much disdain; this makes me think he easily moved on from the guilt and was much more interested in covering his trail.
@GlassEyes8 So that is your opinion. I don't think there is anything out there that officially states what Walt is feeling. I believe it got to Walt a little bit and bothered him but that is an interpretation. Walt definitely became cold but he has not gone that cold, he looks like a man who is in too deep and doing anything to survive.
@NothinGBetteRPJMaN And that is an interpretation, as he is clearly much more hardened and cruel now after endangering a child to try and get Jesse's help - especially since last season involved a similar scenario. Walt took the "just" kill last time (the dealers) and pushed Jesse into the "unjust" one (Gale). Now he capitalized on Jesse's emotions and ultimately didn't need to since it was Tio who helped finish it. Walt is pretty damn evil.
@GlassEyes8 Yea I agree with what you say. I don't remember exactly what I said, but I was asking because you seemed 100% sure Walt didn't feel any remorse over Gale's death. But yea Walt moved on pretty quick for sure but he did show powerful emotion while watching Gale's dvd.
When Hank watched this and Walt peered at it, I felt like he was thinking, what in the name of all that is, how is this happening and so close to home? Even made me nervous. Walts lab partner singing Major Tom, and in Hanks house.
@Galvorn11 Maybe..he does love Walter but I would say he is more of in awe of Walter. I dont see him as a pervert at all. Although I would be he has an asian fetish
@NothinGBetteRPJMaN I have a friend like him,he loves pokemon and karaoke and all that organic food stuff, definitely an otaku,he is good man but a very strange one.
You know Gale is the type of guy who goes to a karaoke bar alone to sing this song and only drinks maybe one soda. (and probably feels bad about it too since soda isn't organic)
I get sad when I think of how Gale died. Then when I think of Gale dead I begin to think of Gus and then I think of the fact Gus is dead. Now I am even more sad.
@Redcrit Looking at videos could lead to seeing spoilers in the related videos. Besides, you should be watching the show online, not waiting for the next season on DVD, dumbass.
@Redcrit Yea it really is your own fault if you haven't gotten far enough into the show to have seen this, then you probably shouldn't watch and you definitely should not read comments. Like you I am watching the show later than everyone else since I have seen all 4 seasons within the past month. I made sure not to look into different reviews and no videos to prevent any spoilers.
Wtf this video makes me sad. Reminds me of how many innocent people die in BB. Maybe not innocent but far more innocent than the characters I root for.
@tokenblakk Yea. Watching the part "4-3-2-1 earth below us" made me sad. I realized he was so real. Isn't that amazing? The guy has such limited time on screen yet has such depth to his character....testament to how great BB is. THE BEST!
@NothinGBetteRPJMaN This. I just watched the version we see in the episode with Walt and Hank, and I realised they edited this to use the later "4-3-2-1" occurrence, but the one at 0:56 is the one I wish they'd used, as it's the most moving and touching, IMO. This makes a good tribute song for Gale, though... he's coming home.
I started laughing when I saw this scene, but them I realised that he's Gale... then I saw Walter's expression... and then I felt bad for laughing at this... poor Gale didn't deserve this D:
Gale was such a dork...but such a kind guy....i felt so bad... the situation he was put in...and he's not gay... he's just really really awkward.... i would prob be his best friend if he was real... i tend to attract to the weirdo's xD
@0o0dead0o0 It was sad indeed because he was so innocent, but yet he was going to take Walt's place, perfectly knowing what was going to happen to him...
Gale was a harmless and most likely gay guy, who just put his degrees to the wrong use, for the wrong people. He was misinformed as to the security circumstances of his job, and that just cant be in such a business.
Comparing Walt and Gale shows how out of place Gale was in the entire situation. He was just some innocent guy that got caught up between Walt and Gus.
