She isn't "pickled" (Gawd, who comes up with this stuff) and is in one piece. There are no plans to run her in 2009, and it's not because of repairs. She is in perfect running condition. All events this year will have her consist drawn by the deisels. It's all about the optic.. other departments make cuts, so it's hard to keep a fuel hog like 2816 screaming down the track at 60. Unfortunately, Bill S. has had enough and moved back to California, and I too, as her coach restorer, am out of work.
I heard from an Motive Power Dept. individual at CP's Bensenville, IL yard that the 2816 is out of service as of Feb., 2009 and that items such as gauges, the bell and whistle have been removed for safe keeping and the engine itself is "pickled" in something like plastic wrap. Apparently the present day ecomomic conditions have led to the decision to end CP's steam program for now. It's to be hoped she'll return some day in the not too distant future.
I am afraid he may be right about that I heard the same thing from a former CPRR Steam train employee he told me she is in Calcary under a tarp and is not due to return the new CPR president doesnt see the need for a steam program that was told to me I sure hope it isnt true but he said its done and the engineer that ran it is gone now too I do hope I am wrong but this was told to me here very recentlly
Beautiful locomotive. Too bad we couldn't see a bit more action! Looks like the action shots were cut short to leave more room for shots of the guys wiping off smudges.
That is the shiniest engine I have seen.

are you going to upload a video of the 2816 and 261 doubleheader which is happening this september?

I was wondering if the engine would move. 7 minute video & 30 seconds of movement at the end. Hey, you had a brilliant sky to work with.
