LOL, all this arguing....Marilyn Manson isn't even a goth band for one thing. They never have been. That's like saying David Bowie was goth just because he wore white pancake make-up at one point. Goth music developed from Post-Punk (thus, a lot of Post-Punk bands are grouped in as early Goth bands) in the late 70's. i.e. Bauhaus, Siouxsie and The Banshees, UK Decay, Virgin Prunes etc.
Dir en grey's new and old stuff is all awesome I enjoy bands growth and change its nice and refreshing I hate people who live in the fucking pass and can't get over it. MM has always sucked ass Dir en grey surpasses him no doubt. I think Dir en grey never wanted to be really famous or huge like someone said earlier how they aren't big in Japan anymore. Kyo prefers that because he hates celeb like worship. Also they hated cos-players that's why they changed out of the VK style.

This might be random to some people but, I noticed that in the Japaneses iTunes, they don't have one spec of Dir en Grey, but in the American iTunes, they have more Dir en Grey albums than any other iTunes around the world. @DiskoSlut now I listened to a few of his songs. Huhm... his voice is not bad ( still don't know how he sings live), but the music is not very special to me, and according you he hasn't written a song? . But... people call him Gothic? So just a shocking speech and he gets famous? Oh well....

@khixitin He's voice sounds alright recorded but it sounds aweful live, completely different, and that another reason why I don't like him. kyo sounds the same live and recorded, he's voice is just perfection. I don't think manson writes his songs like I said most are old songs from other artists... And yeah you got it, just a shocking speech. LOL, all this arguing....Marilyn Manson isn't even a goth band for one thing. They never have been. That's like saying David Bowie was goth just because he wore white pancake make-up at one point. Goth music developed from Post-Punk (thus, a lot of Post-Punk bands are grouped in as early Goth bands) in the late 70's. i.e. Bauhaus, Siouxsie and The Banshees, UK Decay, Virgin Prunes etc.

Dir en grey's new and old stuff is all awesome I enjoy bands growth and change its nice and refreshing I hate people who live in the fucking pass and can't get over it. MM has always sucked ass Dir en grey surpasses him no doubt. I think Dir en grey never wanted to be really famous or huge like someone said earlier how they aren't big in Japan anymore. Kyo prefers that because he hates celeb like worship. Also they hated cos-players that's why they changed out of the VK style.

I don't care what marilyn manson does with he's image. He came into music with the purpose and he has succeeded until now. I'm not a big fan of he's music anymore but I'll still remember that time when i enjoyed he's old stuff.

A band that japanophiles here don't even know about and they are way more talented than these little J bands. There's way better music from japan not this dir en grey shit. Do you have a clue as to what Visual kei is? Because thats were Diru got there image from. The Visual Kei image, not goth or Manson. Manson is the posterboy for fear, and whenever some band tends to be darker, they get clumped together with Manson. This has happen to Moi dix Mois, Diru, and some other Visual kei bands. Well, at least Diru isn't VK anymore ^^.

There were many goth styles before manson but he took it and made it into something different which later on became phenomenon. Dir en grey was more original with Visual K but then started to mimic more western type style... not original..

I'm not saying Diru is TEH BESTEST BAND EVAR (I personally think Moid dix Mois, DIO Distraught overlord are much better ect) but they have talent. it's not that they're style looked similar to mansons at one point. It's just that they do things according to the audience and stray away from their roots which brings me to the point. Are you fucking serious? What have they accomplished? They are only one of the main influences in all of Jrock! If it wasn't for Diru, a lot of Jrock bands wouldn't exist. Would I still listen to threm if they weren't Japanese? Absolutely, their music is amazing. I saw them live last saturday for the first time & I must say it was one of the best shows I've ever seen. You could feel the raw emotion in the crowd & in Kyo's face and voice as they play. No Manson song has ever made me feel that.

This proves you know nothing. He's band name is a mixture of Charles Manson and Marilyn Monroe. This has nothing to do with image or record sales although that isn't a bad thing. The music stirs more controversy than the image itself. Dir en grey would be hypocrites because image plays a big part in their band (remember the visual K days?). Kyos voice isn't bad but it isn't as dynamic. Manson could do just about anything he wants with he's voice..sadly I can't say the same for kyo

I've heard all albums except for the first three which I didn't bother with. I keep coming back to Saku because you have to be a hypocrite to say "I don't like what he does, nor care" then make a video like that. It's a fact that they draw allot of influence from western culture specially now. I don't think they would have gone somewhere in the visual K days. The guy said they aren't a goth band but both their image and lyrics are pretty gothic(not saying all of their lyrics are). He's trying to convince people that it's an original style and it isn't.. it's hard rock/ goth

Boo, I love DEG for about 6 or 7 years now, with 2 of their albums, but I love MM also.

This might be random to some people but, I noticed that in the Japaneses iTunes, they don't have one spec of Dir en Grey, but in the American iTunes, they have more Dir en Grey albums than any other iTunes around the world. Also, I'm not a big fan of MM tho lol. No one should compare musicians to other musicians, to me its kind of offending.

I agree with NyappyDinosaur. Personally, I like Manson and Dir en Grey, and find that both at times create songs that suck. But, your opinion is your opinion, and I can't help, but notice the similarities Dir and Manson sometimes share.
