Impressive. Seems to me the more north you go the less people christian is. The Roman times were not easy though, really hard to survive. So were any old middle age times. You had to fight to stay alive and not become slave of emperor/state. And we think we have it hard today o_O
get it over the worlds civilazation past from greece to rome and than back to greece trough Constantinople, teutons and other ethnicities are not in the map
Europe was not rome. The Teutons and Viking decendents of Scandanavia would disagree. My German, Sweedish and Finnish girlefrind constantly argue about that. The romans accepted christ first. The northsmen did not.
Too right Christ started becoming 'popular' in the 9-11th centuries I think. My looks are classified as Roman-esque..ya know black/brown hair etc but my blood is actually Norse as found out during the History Channels DNA thing. So my ancesotrs are highly Germanic..almost 80% of my genes is it? still..big up to the legions..lol
Don't you try Romolo and Remo founded Rome and the descendants of the Romans was born in Rome, in Italy. Then Rome and the Romans had civilized the whole of Europe and beyond.
@HelenaRussell You're both right in a way. You honestly can't believe that the Roman Empire was made up entirely of Italians, or even that the Legions were made up mostly of Italians? Ever heard of the Auxilia? Celts and other tribes were levied into legions too, for example Legio V Alaudae.
There were African emperors, Iberian emperors (Trajan), politicians from across the empire etc. Rome originated in Rome obviously, but by the end of it's time, like Slick said Rome: was Europe.
@Unremarkable1000 I don't belive that Roman Empire were made by Italians at all, but the Roman Empire have exported their life philosophy that made only in Rome so in Italy:-)
Ever hear of Arminius? The germanic tribesman who, was an officer to a squad of legions, only to abandon them in a forest, where they were surrounded and killed?
@AlessioScipioDePalma Caracalla, Septimius Severus. There were many, many Roman emperors from other parts of the empire, a few of them had Italian blood and they were Romanized citizens... obviously. There were Ilyrian emperors and Gauls too.

Please remember, folks, everything the Romans built was built with the blood of slaves.
That said, they built like no other civilization, ours included.
That said, nothing in the world makes me smile and laugh as much as guys dressing up and pretending to be Romans. It is a royal hoot. Especially the Italians, who have no link whatsoever to the Romans, neither the strength nor the character, as is easily shown by their warrior past...
actually the italians are more closely related to the lombards, goths, burgundians and sicilians. as with ALL civilizations and nations the blood of the ancient past has been diluted by the invaders of subsequent generations of peoples who occupied the country AFTER the collapse of the roman empire.
Poor ignorant... Have you ever read something about the genetic map of europe related from Manfred Kayser? That proves the unicity of the italian DNA and that italians descends from romans... But it was easy to understand, a good historical knows that the numbers of the invaders was too little for replace or to have relevant genetic variation on the DNA of the italian population..
once again you fail in your pathetic attempts at insults and is typical of your solitary braincell struggling vainly to even make a grammatically correct sentence, let alone compose a complete thought. the romans were NOT about culture. the romans were about POWER. power at all costs and it did not matter who they crushed to impose their brutality upon. the roman empire was built on BLOOD, the blood of innocents and the oppressed. READ YOUR HISTORY MORON!
Uuh, why you are so angry? Perhaps it's difficult for you to admit that you were wrong?I didn't insult you, I told you what are you, an IGNORANT!!! My english could be without a good grammar, but I don't need to use words like "moron" to affirm my thought, I'll not fall to your level..
I proved something with the science and you replied with insults, so what can I say you? Probably you haven't a good culture, so study, and learn what means "HUMILTY" (why you changed argument of discussion?)
you are so NAIVE!! the roman empire represented the brutality so common 2000 years ago and is a prime example of the facist empire state of its era. trade represents economic power just as much as political power is expressed through the military conquests of its time. i have actually studied ancient rome and ancient greece quite well and know the languages. your altruistic view of ancient rome is quite telling but lacks the FACTS regarding the brutality of the roman system!
of making their conquered lands intro major trade industries.
All over the empire is made roads made for traders to travel with ease through the empire, however in times of the roads were mainly build for the armies.
your are leaving out one critical and crucial FACT. slavery, the empire was built upon slavery and the best way to obtain slaves was to conquer lands and force others to work for you. hence, the roman military machine was designed for conquest and continued for centuries but ultimately failed due to its own internal failures and problems as well as the stresses from outside of the empire.
Suntzu, what is so hard to understand for you, is that it's from
dawn of time that there's who suffers and is exploited for the wellness of some other one! It was so for all great civilizations of the past the ancient Egypt, Greece, Rome, and all the colonial empires, until today where thousand of people are exploited for let you allow a cheap personal computer and many other things! At that time slavery was a normal thing!
i am extremely familiar with history but you have lapsed into the fallacy of the marxist interpretation of history which is just as valid as the whig interpretation of history. TOTALLY DE-BUNKED!!!
learn to think for yourself rather than letting someone else TELL you what to think.
there is no LARGE use of slavery TODAY! the materials needed to make a computer today were paid for through legitimate commerce in commercial trade and the economics of production of minig the metals and processing the minerals and plastics necessary to produce a technological invention. the empires of history did not seek technology, the primary motivation of those empires of the past was POWER!
Oh my God.... You are a real moron!! This discussion is old more than of an year, I can't remeber what I wrote IDIOT and instead of you I've a real life, it's so difficult to understand this, fucked moron????!!! do you really need mental help!! You are an ignorant who thinks to be right writing a tons of unfounded bullshits! Go to fuck that bitch of your mother and shut the fuck up !!!
Do you want to know something about the fallen of the roman empire? Read the homonymous of Peter Heather, perhaps that you'll be a little less ignorant.
i prefer to read history with an objective historical viewpoint rather than relying upon someone else's biased viewpoint.
i am familiar with peter heather and his works but i am NOT purely convinced of his arguments regarding the outside military factors being the primary blame. the sasanids in particular were not as great of a threat as he portends, in my professional opinion
Infact all kingdoms are based on a basic level of brutality - but you have to accept that that is how wars are fought - and even culteral accepted. Not only Romans had their cruelity - so have the Perzians, Hannibal and its merchant army of Carthage - the Greeks and Indian Kingdoms, Eqypts... and so on. Even the Jews if one read the bibble do have some bloody wars fought with cruelity but with the so called love of god. Just read the story of Simson with the jaw of a mule.
Even during times of the Republic there were very few 'pure' romans, disregarding the patrician families. Men such as Pompeius 'Magnus' had gallic blood in them, for example, as did many from what was then called Picenum. As the empire expanded, and the legions needed more men, the possibility of serving without the citizenship became available further introducing many other races who then married, and so on. Doesn't matter what blood you have, be proud of their accomplishments instead.
I don't gonna say Italians don't have some roman bloodline. But with more than 2000 years of history - I think it is hard to believe. Especially Rome has fallen on some point and have been invaded by many tribes who settled them selves. Rome and its Empire was highly slave depended who also got their generations in the first place. And people are always on the move. Like today forced or not forced. And ofcourse interracial f-word-ing but that sounds so negative. but true.
Auxilary Forces that consisted out of other tribes and such like Gauls and Batavians (exellent horse man like the Numidians) could earn the Roman Citizenship after their service. That makes them Roman but not Roman by Blood.
Italians are descended from the Gauls? big laughs xD.
Those of the North is true (Gauls Italians), though with them there were the Romans. Italy in the center there are still the true descendants of the Romans.
Made a good history of Italian culture, which is better ^ ^
Ancient peoples in italy:
Byzantines (descended from the Romans - Roman Empire of the East), the Etruscans, Gauls Italians, Romans.
The majority of Italians are descended from the Romans (given their empire..); It is no coincidence that the Italian language derives from the Latin..
Italian is the language that comes closest to the ancient Roman language.
So you're point is the language. Good point but that means that every arabic speaking country have the same blood and all the english speaking countries. As an example Normandie. First Gauls tribes and stuff than it was given by the Franks to the Normans. The Normans occupied it. But start mating the local people.... so the blood got mixed and there is almost no true Norman to be found. Same goes for Great Brittain. The true inhabitants of Brittain are (almost) non-existing.
because of the Saxon conquest. The current Friezen in the North of the Netherlands aren't the same Friezen about 1500 years ago (as they went along the coast to the west and mixed with the local people over there,)
By the way I don't gonna say Italians don't have some roman bloodline. But what are Italians anyway. It was born out of several smaller Kingdoms in 1859 and 1860. ROME and Venice joined / has been annexed the great 'Italian' nation untill 1870.
Unfortunately I do not have much time to explain how is the situation. You should study well for the History of Italy. The Italian people is a mixture of many peoples past, within them there is also the Roman descent.
Okay - I'll rest my case than. Still it is hard to believe that most of Current italiens are from the City Rome (where it all started by blood somewhere in 700 bc). And that the 'tribes' like Latins themselves, Campaniers, Samnites are that different by blood and a minor part of the Italien people because they aren't Romans because they don't have LIVED or had direct ancestors in Rome - but are just taken after some bloody wars during the early years (the latin wars) into the Roman Republic.
Explain why the Italian race is one that resembles more to the Romans than the rest of the world ... Italians for the most part, have dark eyes and dark hair ..
All of the Mediterean people have dark eyes and black hair ... from Spain to Turkey with their difference ofcourse.
By the way have you've asked the question yourself.
The city Rome and its beginning of the Republic was found on 7 hills with its nearby neighbours the Latins. So who where its first citizens. While its 'neighbours' the Latins covers the land arround it. They bear the name to the language the Romans spoke. The Romans copied in their early culture the Greeks and made it better
But that's obvious/ natural! Roman Empire has spread itself all over Europe; Romans located themselves everywhere in Europe and associated with other cultures/tribes (try to attend a good Roman History course). That was natural to find other people with dark hair and dark eyes in Europe, and they weren't all Romans. Anyway, beside this, Italian people are considered to be the most similar to Ancient Romans. Italian culture aswell is considered the closest to the Roman one.
The Romans copied the Greek culture? What a laugh xD. Simply in Romans were also the Etruscan culture, and I'll tell you more, the art of the Romans is an evolution of that greek. Study the great imperial city that is better..
Rome was only one city...she never could win an empire for itself !
First Rome unified Italy whit wars (Samnites) or alliances (Veneti), after this, all italic peoples became Roman citizen, from Alps to Calabria.
When Roman rul expanded troughout Mediterranean sea and Western Europe, the Empire was divided between Italy (home of all Roman citizen) and provinces (property of Roman people)
mmhh...there are genetic studies done by a dutch university that proves that italian DNA was not influenced in 2000 years. This was obvious to understand if you knew that the number of the barbarians was not enough to replace the italics populations... Even if you knew that only the north of Italy suffered a massive barbarian invasion....
The definition of a true "Roman" became more and more blurred as time went on. As was said, it's safe to say that Italians share the closest link to them genetically, culturally, and geographically. A more closer link simply does not exist in modern times, and arguably that definition became more and more blurred once Roman citizenship was extended to other peoples, who inevitably interbred with the native population. I for one still identify with my Roman past, even if it's inevitably mixed.
I think that is what I said with the beginning - not the exact words but with the same meaning or intension to say that. By the way I never said that Italians don't have to be proud of or identify with their Roman Heritage and history.
They're ignorant dude! They even don't know that many books that have given us some concept of the Germanic people and the fallen of the roman empire, were written between 1880 and 1920 by german authors at a time when German nationalism reached its peak!
I disagree. Hoplites are too static. They could be easily sorrounded and they are not dynamic (the operation of turn round was very complicated). In fact Macedonian phalanx was defeated at Battle of Cynoscephalae by Roman Legion. Phalanx was strong but to vulnerable in the flanks. Legion was more "adaptive"
man the hoplites had no discipline so they fought MESSY and plus they had suckish armor and weapons i think that the roman legionnaires are th best like the men marching in this vid
In the ancient world the romans fought vs. some woman (cant remember her name) they were 16,000 and they were brutally slaugtered by a single roman legion.
But back to the vid its awesome! always wanted to go to rome and visit the collusioum (spelled?) and the other old parts of rome.
The Roman action fought against a Britiana Queen, she had over a hundred thousand troops under her command against several legions. And she got her forces annihilated.
goths came from where is now modern day romania you primitive fuck and there was no goteborg in the 5th century, goths were the ones who sacked and destroyed rome and at the time there were far more barbarians then romans in the western roman empire and italians were allways a part of gaulic barbarians thats why they spoke italian not latin better go kill yourself, and i dont believe that you are really serius cuz if you are, then youre a primitive sick fuck, and there are no more real romans
Hi there mates! Check this video and find out why italians are such a dark skinned short and hairy people. Learn the truth about the black curly hair so common among italian people. Find out why so many of then have middle-eastern or negroid traits! Well, does it mean italian people are black or mullatos? See for yaself and decide :)

Why do you think, 21th April is realistic, it's only written by Roman historians in the 4th (1) century AD?
That is only a legendary date to give the emperors of Rome a date to price their history in general and to have a support in the plebs.

actually the italians are more closely related to the lombards, goths, burgundians and sicilians. as with ALL civilizations and nations the blood of the ancient past has been diluted by the invaders of subsequent generations of peoples who occupied the country AFTER the collapse of the roman empire.
suntzu1985 2 years ago
Poor ignorant... Have you ever read something about the genetic map of europe related from Manfred Kayser? That proves the unicity of the italian DNA and that italians descends from romans... But it was easy to understand, a good historical knows that the numbers of the invaders was too little for replace or to have relevant genetic variation on the DNA of the italian population..

Oooh, poor kid, I'm so sorry, next time I'll use some special picture for let you understand a concept who's so far from your low cultural level ^_^!
AleB83 2 years ago
once again you fail in your pathetic attempts at insults and is typical of your solitary braincell struggling vainly to even make a grammatically correct sentence, let alone compose a complete thought. the romans were NOT about culture. the romans were about POWER. power at all costs and it did not matter who they crushed to impose their brutality upon. the roman empire was built on BLOOD, the blood of innocents and the oppressed. READ YOUR HISTORY MORON!

The empire was built with blood, but was made for another purpose.
it wasnt only made for power, ofcourse with some of the emporers it was for power but the roman empire was built
mainly for trade and culture...
perhaps you should read your history.
People that think the roman empire was built for power is tards not knowing anything apperently.
facts are from
books, and from discoveries in northern africa around the city of carthage where traderoutes and cities with trade as main income
Cptlegend2 2 years ago 2
you are so NAIVE!! the roman empire represented the brutality so common 2000 years ago and is a prime example of the facist empire state of its era. trade represents economic power just as much as political power is expressed through the military conquests of its time. i have actually studied ancient rome and ancient greece quite well and know the languages. your altruistic view of ancient rome is quite telling but lacks the FACTS regarding the brutality of the roman system!
suntzu1985 2 years ago
They conquered by force with the intention
of making their conquered lands intro major trade industries.
All over the empire is made roads made for traders to travel with ease through the empire, however in times of the roads were mainly build for the armies.
Cptlegend2 2 years ago 2
your are leaving out one critical and crucial FACT. slavery, the empire was built upon slavery and the best way to obtain slaves was to conquer lands and force others to work for you. hence, the roman military machine was designed for conquest and continued for centuries but ultimately failed due to its own internal failures and problems as well as the stresses from outside of the empire.
suntzu1985 2 years ago
Suntzu, what is so hard to understand for you, is that it's from
dawn of time that there's who suffers and is exploited for the wellness of some other one! It was so for all great civilizations of the past the ancient Egypt, Greece, Rome, and all the colonial empires, until today where thousand of people are exploited for let you allow a cheap personal computer and many other things! At that time slavery was a normal thing!
AleB83 2 years ago
i am extremely familiar with history but you have lapsed into the fallacy of the marxist interpretation of history which is just as valid as the whig interpretation of history. TOTALLY DE-BUNKED!!!

suntzu1985 2 years ago
there is no LARGE use of slavery TODAY! the materials needed to make a computer today were paid for through legitimate commerce in commercial trade and the economics of production of minig the metals and processing the minerals and plastics necessary to produce a technological invention. the empires of history did not seek technology, the primary motivation of those empires of the past was POWER!

Do you want to know something about the fallen of the roman empire? Read the homonymous of Peter Heather, perhaps that you'll be a little less ignorant.
AleB83 2 years ago
i prefer to read history with an objective historical viewpoint rather than relying upon someone else's biased viewpoint.
i am familiar with peter heather and his works but i am NOT purely convinced of his arguments regarding the outside military factors being the primary blame. the sasanids in particular were not as great of a threat as he portends, in my professional opinion
suntzu1985 2 years ago
Infact all kingdoms are based on a basic level of brutality - but you have to accept that that is how wars are fought - and even culteral accepted. Not only Romans had their cruelity - so have the Perzians, Hannibal and its merchant army of Carthage - the Greeks and Indian Kingdoms, Eqypts... and so on. Even the Jews if one read the bibble do have some bloody wars fought with cruelity but with the so called love of god. Just read the story of Simson with the jaw of a mule.

You must study Roman History, my ignorant friend, especially Repubblican age, you will discover many surprises.
millennium85 2 years ago
i have studied roman history both the republic and the empire.
suntzu1985 2 years ago

And ofcourse interracial f-word-ing but that sounds so negative. but true.
viowave 2 years ago
Italians are the direct descendants
Better informed on our history..
kigmaster 2 years ago
Auxilary Forces that consisted out of other tribes and such like Gauls and Batavians (exellent horse man like the Numidians) could earn the Roman Citizenship after their service. That makes them Roman but not Roman by Blood.
viowave 2 years ago
Italians are descended from the Gauls? big laughs xD.
Those of the North is true (Gauls Italians), though with them there were the Romans. Italy in the center there are still the true descendants of the Romans.
Made a good history of Italian culture, which is better ^ ^
Ancient peoples in italy:
Byzantines (descended from the Romans - Roman Empire of the East), the Etruscans, Gauls Italians, Romans.
kigmaster 2 years ago
The majority of Italians are descended from the Romans (given their empire..); It is no coincidence that the Italian language derives from the Latin..
Italian is the language that comes closest to the ancient Roman language.
kigmaster 2 years ago
So you're point is the language. Good point but that means that every arabic speaking country have the same blood and all the english speaking countries. As an example Normandie. First Gauls tribes and stuff than it was given by the Franks to the Normans. The Normans occupied it. But start mating the local people.... so the blood got mixed and there is almost no true Norman to be found. Same goes for Great Brittain. The true inhabitants of Brittain are (almost) non-existing.
viowave 2 years ago
because of the Saxon conquest.
ROME and Venice joined / has been annexed the great 'Italian' nation untill 1870.
viowave 2 years ago
Unfortunately I do not have much time to explain how is the situation. You should study well for the History of Italy. The Italian people is a mixture of many peoples past, within them there is also the Roman descent.

Spettacolo!
AleB83 2 years ago
Okay - I'll rest my case than. Still it is hard to believe that most of Current italiens are from the City Rome (where it all started by blood somewhere in 700 bc). And that the 'tribes' like Latins themselves, Campaniers, Samnites are that different by blood and a minor part of the Italien people because they aren't Romans because they don't have LIVED or had direct ancestors in Rome - but are just taken after some bloody wars during the early years (the latin wars) into the Roman Republic.
viowave 2 years ago
Explain why the Italian race is one that resembles more to the Romans than the rest of the world ... Italians for the most part, have dark eyes and dark hair ..
kigmaster 2 years ago
All of the Mediterean people have dark eyes and black hair ... from Spain to Turkey with their difference ofcourse.
By the way have you've asked the question yourself.
The city Rome and its beginning of the Republic was found on 7 hills with its nearby neighbours the Latins. So who where its first citizens. While its 'neighbours' the Latins covers the land arround it. They bear the name to the language the Romans spoke. The Romans copied in their early culture the Greeks and made it better
viowave 2 years ago
But that's obvious/ natural! Roman Empire has spread itself all over Europe; Romans located themselves everywhere in Europe and associated with other cultures/tribes (try to attend a good Roman History course). That was natural to find other people with dark hair and dark eyes in Europe, and they weren't all Romans. Anyway, beside this, Italian people are considered to be the most similar to Ancient Romans. Italian culture aswell is considered the closest to the Roman one.
kigmaster 2 years ago
The Romans copied the Greek culture? What a laugh xD. Simply in Romans were also the Etruscan culture, and I'll tell you more, the art of the Romans is an evolution of that greek. Study the great imperial city that is better..

Sorry for English.

Angelsweep 2 years ago
I think that is what I said with the beginning - not the exact words but with the same meaning or intension to say that. By the way I never said that Italians don't have to be proud of or identify with their Roman Heritage and history.
