  • I love how reserved she is. Obviously humble and appreciative, but not overly so like Meryl Streep and Kate Winslet. She doesn't make a huge deal out of it, and I love that. She doesn't act for awards.

  • 22 people don't like how cate never ages.

  • love her voice!

  • Cate Blanchett did amazing job in The Aviator.

  • F**K she nailed that role!

  • She's a great actress but sorry, I have to be honest, Sophie Okonedo should have won. The best performance was hers.

  • @MarioBeart I agree.

  • The entire year of 1998 was horrible. Saving Private Ryan should have won best picture and she should have won for Elizabeth, damn Shakespeare in Love.

  • @weertyou damn you, harvey weinstein. The man behind every mediocre best picture winner.

  • CATE BLANCHETT = THE NEW MERYL STREEP

  • I LOVE CATE BLANCHET!

  • shes my favorite actress ever!

  • cate blanchet sooo hot i would lick her for days then start all over

  • Why doesnt she have more than 5 Oscars right now? She has got to be one of the greats in show business these days!

  • 0:45 I love the way Natalie looks in the right pic.

  • average movie (lacked focus and a overall point) but she was good in it!!

  • Irony...is that Gwyneth Paltrow in the second row? 1:35

  • PURE CLASS AND REAL TALENT!!!!!

  • i don't like a lot of modern actresses, so i really think Cate is my favorite.

  • Natalie Swan Portman, had to wait, but eventually danced away with her oscar! Go Cate!!!

  • Tim Robbins always represents peace.

  • Her husband is "punching above his weight'

  • This should have been her 2nd oscar win, not her 1st! She was robbed by Gwyneth Paltrow!

  • The presenter is awesome :)

  • She is a goddess. Excellent actress, one of the best of our time.

  • what a goddess. she def should of won for elizabeth instead of that talentless bitch named gwyneth paltrow

  • Cate the great, with her long overdue Oscar!

  • She is the new Meryl Streep.

And she's from Melbourne, Australia yay !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @dldee912 I am 100% with you :)

  • @al7oob

    Aren't we all? ;)

  • Nice she won, afterall it was a Scorsese picture.

  • laura linney needs an oscar NOW :)

  • She was soo good in this role. Definitely deserved the academy award.

  • @CorporalHicks7 She's always calm and coherent though. She's just a poised woman and is not about that over emotional nonsense in public. That's what's cool about her.

  • Those cheekbones...!

  • cate is an awesome actress, she is able to make any kind of role

she is my favourite actress after meryl streep

  • She is hot. Like really hot. My god.

  • i love Cate :)

and her dress! aah! she's PERFECTION!

  • Now that's how you accept and give an oscar speech, no blubbering, no long winded speeches, no shouting, it was just long enough to the point covered a lot of ground

  • I think she should've won for her portrayal as Elizabeth. Amazong woman.

  • Yes. A lucid intellingent acceptance speech from an equally intelligent actress.

    No crying, thanking hairdressers etc.

A talented actress who has mastered the craft. Not pining to be a star.

  • Cate's smile is so beautiful!

    min 0:16

  • Aww, I wanted Natalie to win!

  • @captainjjb84 Me too but now she has an Oscar of her own too.

  • One of my fav actress ever! I discovered her in LOTR movies and i've started to follow her in every movies she has made all this years. I would have seen her winning for "Elizabeth" like i would like to have seen Kidman winning for Moulin Rouge... :(

  • Cate Blanchett is the best actress alive by far and probly the best actress weve seen yet.

  • @wezatch

    i totally agree ;D

  • shes like wine... the older the prettier!

  • Could she be any more eloquent, composed or talented?!? *dies*

  • I want to kiss the shit out of Natalie Portman!

  • @pedrosaude8,

Good god yes. She's soooooooooooooo adorable.

  • Cate Blanchett is the best actress ever. She is today's Katharine Hepburn (but even better hehe)

  • Cate is the best actress this generation.

  • she should of won for elizabeth as well

  • Sick of the carbon tax debate. What's with all the hate towards Cate? The debate has nothing to do with her, let's concentrate on the real issue here and stop getting distracted...

  • Cate, you silly woman.

Showing up in climate change ad does is good, this could effect you career for sure!

    NOT GOOD CATE!...NOT GOOD!

  • @MRMILO57 What rubbish you loser, not being concerned about the reality of climate change is far more silly....good on her for speaking out and being the concerned intelligent woman that she is....you are the silly one!

  • @danielmy08 and just what the hell does Cate's Oscar-win speech have to do with her role in the carbon tax debate? You picked the wrong forum to wax faux-lyrical Aussie political, "bullshit eco moral bullshit"? sounds like a liberal backbencher....

  • @danielmy08 Fuck off you ignorant selfish petty little loser,,,Cate makes me proud to be an Aussie, not redneck worthless selfish denialists like you

  • What's with the thumbs downs? And by the way, Blanchett deserves an oscar FOR EVERYTHING she's nominated in... especially in 1998 For "Elizabeth".. shame that Paltrow won (I like her though), but Blanchett in "ELIZABETH" is one of the best performances in film history of all time... that face that her character portrays in the movie when she gives her speech to the religious figures... sigh

  • she's pure class

  • Closer is one of my favorites, and not only was Natalie stunning in the film, but she outshined everybody in the film. She out-fucking-shined Julia Roberts. That takes talent. Still, Cate was incredible in The Aviator.

  • Closer is one of my favorites, and not only was Natalie gorgeous in the film, but she outshined everyone in the film. She Outshined Julia Roberts. How the hell is that even possible?

  • Happy B'day, Cate.

  • CATE BLANCHETT IS THE BEST ACTRESS EVER!!!!!!!

  • this proves that the academy still love katharine hepburn - this is her fifth!

  • sorry, but i cant help but think this was long overdue

  • This was one of the best oscar acceptance speeches by an actress... short and laconic.... she was so poised and self-possessed

  • The speaker should have say: "This is the first Academy Award and second nomination for Cate Blancett. She was previously robbed by Gwyneth Paltrow for Shakespeare in Love".

  • @dldee912 I agree 100%

  • @dldee912 everyone was robbed by 'Shakespeare in Love' including those who went and saw that garbage in theaters.

  • @PaulyCatz82 I liked that movie, but Best Picture should have gone to Saving Private Ryan.

  • @dldee912 hahaha xD

  • @dldee912 I like you. you're amazing!

  • Cate is brilliant! I think she is my favorite actress of this generation. I love her so much. She deserved it, even the others are so good too. Well, we have some fantastic actresses today, what is a great thing, because is difficult find people like them.

  • she's was so polite and laconic in that disturbing moment - it's not given to everyone

  • Natalie deserved this. At least she got her justice this year.

  • @jillpill9898,

Yeah. I was in tears when she won it. 17 years, and finally she won.

  • Why did se have a 'leading role' nomination for this movie..., she just appears a few times, and the story is not plotted around her (but Dicaprio)... I don't know why they give 'leading' roles nominations sometimes to actors withthe need of fame and glamour, but other times, and 'supporting' nominations to others in great leading roles (as Javier Bardem (No country for old man), or Tatoum Oneal in Paper Moon)...

I think she doesnt deserved this oscar for this movie... not a leading role.

  • @berrend0 it was the best supporting actress category

  • @berrend0 #fail.

  • I hope Laura Linney eventually wins an Oscar. Sophie Okonedo as well.

  • I know I want her to get an Oscar too. It's just that there's always someone better nominated with her. Just the timing. I also want Annette Bening and Toni Collette to be Oscar winners too by the time they leave this world.

  • @anjelheaven dey too butterz... if we give Oscars to dem munters we will be encouraging more fugly birds to appear on screen!

  • @anjelheaven sophie bongo bongo okonedo has already won an oscar pongo pongo

  • Well deserved win. And what a speech. Elegant, classy, to-the-point.

  • Madsen was robbed.

  • Hope my son will marry your daughter))) That was sweet

  • She's the best actress in the world.Bar none!

  • Cate is so classy! If only all acceptance speeches could be as well spoken, calm and succinct as hers.

  • She is so elegant and good actress! No vulgarity in her!

  • I love Cate, but I think she should have one for one of the Elizabeth movies!

  • Am I the only one whom Cate Blanchett doesn't suit in Cate Hepburn coat? C.B. is great actress no doubt about this, but this role was over her shouders. I didn't find Cate Hepburn in her, sorry...

  • @Lucifera1011: dude i totally agree.

  • blanchette is the best actress on the planet.the best ever!!

  • Cate is one of the most gifted actors alive.

  • i love cate blanchett more than words can describe but her performance in the aviator was NOT oscar worthy. she should've won for elizabeth, notes on a scandal, i am there, and so many other films but sophie okonedo and laura linney were robbed in this instance. i'm sorry cate, i do love you and all your films.

  • Question to the movie fans out there,

Although I have seen Cate Blanchett in other movies, in the Aviator and in Robin Hood with Russel Crowe I've started to notice her. I can not explain or find the right words for it.

For me she's not the woman you drool over at the mouth about but she has this thing, this quality. (No pun intended she's a great actress.)

Does anyone know the word for her?

    Godspeed

  • Comment removed

  • @antonjack I think the word you're looking for is 'automaton'.

  • @antonjack maybe captivating? at least that's how I would describe her. She is pretty much awesome ^^

  • @antonjack ethereal?

  • THE MUST GORGEOUS VOICE EVER!!!

  • I'm Aussie and she's great - i also hope Laura Linney gets her award eventually!

  • i love Cate

  • Rofl, What the heck was that? I hope my son will marry your daughter?

  • Yep.

  • my favorite actress..beautiful powerful confidence . She deserved the award, but i really hope she could win for Elizabeth, not Paltrow at that time.

  • Cate was the best thing about the Aviator. She deserved it. I adore her.

  • great exit line

  • Cate is my queen

  • Cate is my queen

  • Cate Blanchett leaves me cold. She is technically very accomplished, brilliant even, but there isn't one element of truth in any of her performances. You can see the mechanism at work and that makes for very disengaged and uncomfortable viewing. She's all about technique and superficiality.

  • @JohnnyContagious People used to say the same thing about Meryl Streep ...I think their reputations make people pay more attention to their methods, she has an incredible technique and can shade a performance with complex detail and nuance, whether it requires some level of self-consciousness I don't know, but I do know after seeing her on stage in 'Streetcar ' the depth, complexity and variety of feelings she was able to reveal in a gesture or a line was astonishing to watch

  • @BigDeanoSyd Comparisons with Meryl Streep are ludicrous and do her no favours - humanity bursts forth from every Streep performance. I do take your point about stage acting, though. I have never seen her on stage, but I would imagine that the technical proficiency that makes her so unwatchable on the screen would make her captivating on the stage.

  • @JohnnyContagious I'm sorry but that's a complete lie. How can you watch any of her performances and not see the brilliant real-life woman behind it? There's no way you can draw up that kind of acting ability if it's all coming from nothing.

  • @ItWasTheChair13 No, it's not a lie, merely an opinion. And if you can see the 'brilliant real-life woman' behind her performances then surely that's a failing on her responsibility as an actress?

  • @JohnnyContagious

Couldn't disagree with you more. I've never understood this feeling of coldness as I get quite a natural warmth to many of her characters and her as a person. I thought she exquisitely gave warmth to a character whom we all attach a colder nature to, Queen Elizabeth I. No, she's MUCH more than technique, you just need to research furthur, I think you may surprise yourself. ;)

  • @fumbler22 My girlfriend is a huge Cate Blanchett fan, so I've seen all but a couple of her films and therefore I have no need to research 'further'. :) She falls into the same category of actress that accommodates women like Emma Thompson, Helen Bonham Carter, and Nicole Kidman. Women who are quite obviously performing. Cate Blanchett's technical gifts are many, but it's acting by numbers.

  • Kate is all class. And there is not much class left in film industry of late.

But it all goes in cycles, so maybe one day class will return to the big screen.

  • I actually LOVE her voice, it's amazing.

  • Probably my favorite actress along with Helena Bonham Carter. Luvs her!

  • @ohjujubeeme She better win for the King's Speech! I feel helena is long overdew for an oscar

  • So classy and poised. Completely admirable.

  • i hope my son would marry your daughter.. that's cool..

  • Love how they cheered for Virginia and Sophie.

  • Tim Robbins is hot.

  • @oscars please post when Tim Robbins won his oscar!

  • what a category with Blanchet,Portman,Linney...I wish Natalie wins this year and Laura in the next years...she's amazing!i don't think that Blanchett gave her best performance in Aviator, but the academy understood the horrible mistake they did in 1999 and gave the oscar to Paltrow instead of her...

  • "GOOOOOLLLYYYYY!"

"i don't think ive ever meet someone who actually uses the word golly"

xD god i love that scene

  • "i hope my son will marry your daughter?" what was that?

  • @93johnk A mark of respect, their kids got on very well together, it's an inside joke and a cute way of showing her respect

  • she should NOT have won that oscar....sophie had a way more moving performance in Hotel Rwanda

  • My gosh, she's a remarkable actress! She totally deserved this. Jajajajaj... and By the way, she's got the kind of intelligence I love. XD

  • @ClefDeDavid88 Have you seen her in Hotel Rwanda? She's amazing there.

  • I love Cate, but Natalie should have won. Her performance in "Closer" is one of the best I have ever seen. At least she's probably going to win her Oscar for "Black Swan", so justice will be made.

  • Damn look at Blanchett's husband. You lucky ugly son of a bitch...

  • @brybry19871987: you have a sad life, don't you?

  • eh i love cate but idk if she should have won...natalie or laura should have gotten it

  • @ClefDeDavid88 this comment made my day. Thanks ;]

  • Look for the word "justice" in the dictionary and this video will be played.

  • @yairc19 it would have to be an electronic dictionary

  • Best Actor, Tom Hanks

    Best Actress, Cate Blanchett

  • @MasterpieceMusicHM Dear friend... who are you? Where do you come from? Are we some sort of doppelgangers? We should meet and talk some day.

Because TOM HANKS and CATE BLANCHETT are my two favorite actors as well!!!

  • she deserve it ..

  • Laura Linney REALLY, in my opinion, hasn't had a role that has been deserving of the actual trophy yet. She's definitely notable, definitely nomination worthy, but she has yet to actually deserve it.

I still think Natalie Portman deserved the Oscar for this one.

  • Cate is the best actress alive.

  • Although she was good in the Aviator, it wasn't her best performance. She much deserved to win for Elizabeth. She should have won the Oscar then instead of that hack, Gwyneth Paltrow

  • @19dec1981 Absolutely. She really radiates class, intelligence, power and confidence :)

She is a real woman- a lady- and I think she is someone women should aspire to be like, too.

  • shes class. she should be what all women aspire for. beautiful and smart.

my fav actress by far :)

  • Cate's got the magic. The woman is a magician - the Sarah Bernhardt of the modern age.

  • Cate is really AMEZING(L)

  • i love her smooth accent and voice SO MUCH :')

  • I wanted Natalie to won, but Cate was great in "The Aviator" as well.

Maybe this year Nat will win for "Black Swan" ;) I hope so.

  • LISTEN EVERYBODY!

No one deserved this as much as Cate.

    OKAY?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

Everybody else was fucking amazing, espescially Sophie Okenedo.

    BUTTTTTTTTTTTTT

Cate not only deserved this, but she Also deserved Best Actress For Elisabeth 1 and 2.

    So fuck you.

  • @thisisthemario Obviously

  • Leo should have won best actor...."Way of the future!"

  • YES!!! He should have won!!!!!!!!!

THANK YOU!!!! THANK YOU BELIEVING THE SAME THING

  • They all were wonderful, but I wanted Sophie Okonedo to win.

  • Cate is great. But, is an imitation of a famous person really creative acting?

  • @jckfmsincty she didn't interpret the characters of Hepburn, but her life.

  • @jckfmsincty Imitation or reinterpretation? They bring their modern views to an old character, allowing modern audiences to relate and experience that emotion.

  • @jckfmsincty In this case, yes.

  • god natalie portman is gorgeous

  • The Beautiful People

  • yeah this is her second Oscar! She was phenomenal as Elizabeth.

What I love about her is that she speaked quick and didn't cry etc... I hate these long pathetic speeches...

  • So the Academy thinks this is enough to redeem themselves after their huge mistake @ the 1998 Oscars?

She owns just 1 statue, but this is her 2nd Oscar.
