The really sad thing about McCarthy is that he was more right than he knew. There were hundreds of Soviet agents in the US Govt.

From Alger Hiss right up to Lauchlin Currie advisor to Roosevelt. Venona transcripts were so Top Secret they werent made public to 1992 or so. These were decoded Soviet

transmissions that named hundreds of agents some of which havent been identified to this day.

@harleyspoon Oh yes they were. They definitely were enemies and traitors. His accusations weren't baseless like everyone thought and almost everyone thinks to this day. He had evidence. It's just that they were classified so he couldn't just show it out for everyone to see.
