The movie sucked but I love the show. I thought aang was asian in the movie?anywho If katari and her brother were black or indonesian or hawain at best would have made it more realistic and aang should have been from shanghai or somewhere in deep asia because he looks like a americanized asian.

@MoviesintheMix dragon ball is older mainly only guys watched it the girls would watch sailor moon so I dont think it got the larger fan base that todays generation does.like my older boy cousins and me watched dragon ballz but my WHOLE family aunts uncle,cousin,sis,bro,mom..clos­e friends we can sit talk about it 4hr we know every episode of last air bender ..my nxt door neighbor he 10yr and he know literaly every line from every episode...like hell say qoutes and act out the character.

@dacurlytana Ok. So mainly since guys watch it that race doesnt matter? Race shouldnt be a big deal at all. The only reason they cared about race for the movie is cause they liked the show. I bet if the show sucked they really wouldnt care about the race of any of the characters.

@dacurlytana Yes. But the thing I find sad is that most fans of the show are kids and all the teens and some adults are complaining about race. Race shouldnt really even be that big of a deal. As long as their good actors thats what matters. Plus in the show they dont even look asian.

Not all the actors were bad. Uncle Iroh and Zuko were great.

@MoviesintheMix I'm not really sure if there really weren't any that actually looked the part, or at least less than Rathbone..... I don't know if the recruiters actually know too many ethnic Asian actors though, and I definably don't think Shyamalan does.

But I agree, Dav Patel and Shaun Toub were good. I wouldn't say great or some of the best performance I've ever seen, but they were decent ti say the least.

I would have preferred that they have a more diverse cast but I don't really care about the race. If the actors could pull it off then I'd be okay with it but as the movie shows they sucked. REALLY BAD.

PS before you start flaming me for being not understanding the race issue understand I am asian and I feel that it would have been better but that the choice of actors could have been justified if they had any real acting skills.

i kind of understand where people are coming from with this, but i disagree that the movie was white washed. That's not the case at all, the fire nation was made up of mostly indian people, and the earth kingdom was ALL asian. They weren't being racist they just completely destroyed the casting. Either way the movie was absolutely terrible and i never wanna see that piece of crap ever again....

i dont quite understand this....its been said that a large majority of the earth kingdom will be asian as they tend to have the strongest influence of asian culture in the series also eg ba sing sei which will be in the next film.but this movie isnt even white wash,there are different ethnicitys involved there not all white some are i know for a fact that cliff curtis who plays oozai is a new zealand maori and there are a number of indian actors also general zhao and zuko are both indian actors

@RedRanger000 every minority in the movie is a secondary or background character. The only Hero's are the little white kids with super powers. while the main villains are evil brown people. The diversity of the background characters makes it seem like it is only the white children that could save the world while all of the other minorities of the world just follow behind them.

@fakefail Nick Fury is black in the movies because he's black in the books that the movies are based on. Look up Ultimate Marvel. And Will Smith as James West was a bad Idea that proves changing a character's race can help to ruin a movie. With that one casting choice the people who made that movie changed the Wild Wild West from a movie about spies in the Old West to a movie about race in the Old West. And being a fan of the original that's not what I wanted to see.

I look at the movie and I want to barf.When I saw the teaser trailer,it looked promising.Until I noticed they screwed up the Tattoos.The tattoos are one LARGE tattoo,not one made out of a bunch of smaller ones!Zukos scar is bigger,Sokka has a pony-tail...I am not going to see this.If it doesn't stay true to the show,I refuse to watch it.

well i really don't know what others are going to do about this movie. All I can do is not pay money to see it. I can't imagine why anyone would want to see it anyway. After seeing the trailer the whole thing looks like American Ninja with superpowers. PASS.

We can't stop production of the moviie, but we can do our best to slow its profits once it's released. A huge boycotting force is being planned right now by supports of the racebending campaign

Of course at this point in time nothing can be done to change the movie, but we could always just protest and not watch it. It will send a clear message to the people in Hollywack that a lot of folks in this country aren't going to tolerate this racism.

that is true. but maybe if the makers see that there are people who take offense to this and that they are loosing money from the public because of this, they will change the casting for the next 2 movies, or at least more asians in other movies that they make.

Yes, because change doesn't come without protest.

Most of the people who say, "It's just a movie, get over it," are not directly affected by racism. When hate crimes are still happening, including hate crimes against people of Asian descent in America, whitewashing is a problem. Stereotypical portrayals in movies and TV shows are a problem. Just recently, there was yet another crime show with a Asian organized crime episode full of Asian thugs and good, white cops taking them down.
