  • Why aren't any of the instructors wearing tops? This isn't right and it's against regs. These instructors should lose their certs.

  • I hope this is not how we are training soldiers. This is one of the dumbest drills I have ever seen. The only point is how to stand and take a beating.

  • i would love to take on any of these piss poor instructors!

  • well said signore. these punchers are pretty much assholes. one of them just knocked the guy out when he was on the ground. this did not look like a "drill" to me. it looked like the punchers taking advantage of the clinchers and pretty much beating the hell out of them. which is not what they are there for...pathetic.

  • this is not what the lvl 1 clinch drill was meant for in anyway. i could name over 100 things wrong with this drill. mounting the downed clincher for 1. everyone of these strikers where getting angles on the clinchers and looking for KO punches every time. the strikers are suppose to attack the clinchers using the universal fight plan, not using lvl 2 or 3 or any kind of trained stand up fighting. idk who the NCOIC was for this drill or if hes even in the military but that shouldnt have happened

  • I did this when I first arrived at 2id camp humphreys, it was not that bad it was enjoyable.

  • last tko is funny.

  • some of these guys got BEAT.

  • Clinch drill... I learned a body lock and trip in HS wrestling. This is the bullshit our taxes r paying for?

  • Total garbage instructors... Im level 2 and beating the shit out of people is not teaching shit... Im heading to Benning soon for 3 and 4, and I hope these tards get their certificates revoked...

  • quit bitching you stupid pogs. this is the best training you remf legs will get. Just remember the enemy wont stop just because you fall to the ground.

  • @idieforamerica Seriously, many of these guys never learned to fight like men in the first place. They need to be "broken" of their bad habits and become exposed to the real stress of a real fight (as closely as we can stimulate in training). If they wouldn't fall on their backs, retreat, or turn their back to their opponent, they wouldn't be beaten for so long.

  • These guys are IDIOTS! 1:34 the student achieves the clinches and fucktard is still hittin him. I got hit a couple times but damn, these guys are comin out like they're butterbean or somethin. Definetly agreed, the dumbasses totally lost track of the purpose!

  • Whoever ran that clinch drill is a fucking retard! That is NOT how that is meant to be run! I am a level one certified MACP instructor and that is NOT how you do that! How is a soldier supposed to learn the proper clinch method when they are on the ground getting the shit beat out of them! And did I see a bag over one soldiers head? Whoever ran this clinch drill should be busted to a fucking private and have all their certificates revoked! Risk assessment extremely high due to retards teaching!

  • wtf do you mean how are you supposed to learn the clinch with someone beating on you, why the hell would you ever even attempt to clinch if it isnt a wrestling match, or "someone is throwing punches at you." im not saying you dont know what ur talking about, but i think the more pressure the better, some of those guys would have been killed in a combat situation, or even a bar fight for that matter

  • There is a difference between hitting someone and learning to achieve the clinch, and mercilessly beating them. When someone goes down you stop. You can't achieve the clinch from the fucking floor. This is only level 1 shit, not level 3. When I went through MACP level 1 they hit us during the clinch, but the one time someone did go down, they allowed that soldier to get to his feet. Not beat his ass while he lay there.

  • Comment removed

  • you cant do nothing else besides grappel them but hell if u want to get hurt take them down and c what happens

  • wats wit the footage? its so blurry i can hardly c anything

  • this is what will happen if you dont know grappling specially if your opponent are much bigger than you, they need BJJ curriculum,

  • Are you allowed to do anything besides grap them around the waist? Collar ties? Underhooks? Duck unders?" Double Legs?

  • anyone ever heard of a double leg take down?

  • This was almost two years ago. It's all good. Much better than not doing this type of training. The program continues to improve--that's the important thing. After all combatives is an extension of the "Spirit of the Bayonet" and we all know what the spirit of the bayonet is. That is all.

  • It's weak. for those of you who are NCO should remember the combatives in ANCOC when everyone was hitting thats what it is about

  • Besides some minor technical changes to everbody's clinch grip, I think it is fine. When you train, you need to be realistic. You are going to get punched in the face if you go for the takedown. The reason you are clinching is to subdue the offender non-lethally. Or because he is a better striker. Perhaps what this is really showing is that more time needs to be spent on hand to hand combat.

  • its called closing the gap.Basically if you want to take down the "offender"

  • I get that. But the problem is these guys don't know how to do a proper takedown. And the ones that keep backing up aren't ever going to get in close enough for a takedown. They need to work on the slip. And their clinch grip I hope improves.

  • yeah..alot of these soldiers arnt very good...and the course is only a week long so it's not like they become proficient at it.Although it is a smoker thats for sure

  • I did this drill today. You're not allowed to punch back or take the striker down, the punches stop when you get them in 1 of 4 clinches. It is a clinch drill, not a take down drill. Close the gap quickly and aggressively and control the arms in a clinch.

  • I hope they also show you the head clinch. Do they show you the arm triagle?

  • The purpose of that drill is not to take down the attacker. You are supposed to clinch with the attacker and the drill stops. But the soldiers leading this drill are retards and doing it all fucking wrong. You are not supposed to mercilessly beat the soldier, or knock them out!

  • Wow, it sure is easy to swing for the fences when the opponent isn't allowed to strike or take you down. What a bunch of punk ass instructors - a bunch of disgruntled sgts who wanna pound on LT's. Time to get professional; we're at war.

  • Wow, I forgot I had been to war, thanks. Secondly, I am not a disgruntled SGT. I am a senior combatives instructor who training has been documented in actual hand to hand and the soldier I trained is alive and the bad guy isnt, hows that for professional????

  • A new memo has been written for the Clinch SOP. This is no longer the standard.

  • Thank you and I am aware of the changes. I am in constant contact with Matt Larsen and continually modify all drills in accordance with updated standards.

  • Cool video, but I'm a combatives instructor and this clinch drill is wrong on so many levels! Not how a clinch drill is suppose to be done.

  • Read below.

  • looks like fun. hate craptalica

  • This is a highlight video of over 160 rounds designed for people to enjoy watching. It is not a training video on how to conduct the drill. We understand the meaning of the drill but the parts done correctly are pretty boring to watch. Lighten up and breath once in a while.

  • Seemed like a pointless drill. A clinch should be set up with a strike to the common peroneal, face, knee or something. All this exercise showed was how fast you could run away from somebody. The clinches weren't even that great, then what do you do after you clinch? Hold on for dear life? Take a shot to the face?

  • no, and no. a few takedowns are taught. the "clinchers" can't strike in this drill. however, the "punchers" aren't boxing, just throwing wild haymakers mostly. creating top-tier mma-ists in a 1wk, 40hr crash-course isn't going to happen. they can continue training and move on to levels II+III.

the winner of a war isn't who is better at h2h combat, but aggressiveness and confidence gained from it can go a long way.

turn a corner, the enemy is there, the weapon jams. worst case scenario. attack.

  • Well said.

  • This drill has guidelines that are not followed in this video, please do not think this is how this drill is supposed to be ran, at no time is this drill supposed to continue on the ground and specific combinations are specified to ensure the student is understanding the meaning of the drill. Too many times people lose track of what this drill is about, learning how to control the enemy and build confidence NOT a Pride Fight!!

  • first of all you can continue using combinations on the solider if falls to the ground if he or she does not go into the fighting stance on this is a badass clinch drill video it shows that the army fighting core is not full of sissy la la's like your self stop being a leg and fight airborne out.

  • best way to clinch is to counterpunch and move forward. and try teaching those guys a takedown or two. :P *lol*

  • hahaha imm in here...like how i block with my face lol :D

  • nice.

    i like the aliveness.

what's the goal of the drill?

  • to learn how to achieve the clinch against an aggressive opponent.

also, they have to show the courage, or willingness to close the distance with the enemy.

  • thanks.

  • @sco412

None of these trainees achieved an effective clinch. They need to learn how to do it properly under stress.

As far as courage, I guess I would rather see better training before they are put in this situation. This provides very little opportunity for them to be successful. Total advantage to the punchers. Allowing strikes to the groin or throat or proper takedowns would even things up.

I just think there is very little good to result from a drill like this run this way.
