The Maximals and Predicons, who are decendants of the Autobots and Decepticons, ended up going back in time to pre-historic Earth. They weren't going to initially link the planet that they first crashed in ep 1 as Earth, but I guess the writers changed their minds as the series progressed. Since they decided it's Earth, they linked G1 into it as well.
Beast Machines follows this story arc. I'm hoping that's not canon, it was an embarrassment.

i believe the matrix is the remains of the previous primes sparks so when prime joins the matrix his spark joins with the rest, in the movie it looks like a crystal probably because it has contacted an evolved spark (primal's) and been left dormant for thousands of years and so it became what we saw, prime could be revived later (twice) when the other autobots killed in the film could not, because prime's spark was still in the matrix and so when his body was reactivated it was pulled back.to it
Definitely one of the best series out of the transformers. For any newbies, don't listen to the haters cause they never gave it a chance. It has really good quality story telling and you'll be a fan in no time. Beast Wars doesn't get enough credit for being one of the Transformer greats.

If you place monumental important on nostaliga, care little for productions values, less for decent writing, and champion something for doing it first, rather than doing it well, then your love of the original Transformers cartoon is very much explained.
I, however, do not share you nostalgia soaked bias, and judge The Transformers on it's Merits, of which it has very few.

To save his ancestor, Optimus Primal temporary puts Optimus Prime's spark into his body for a while until Optimus Prime's body is repaired. While having his ancestor's spark in his body, Optimus Primal got a new, bigger, more powerful and more advanced body with 4 modes and still have this new body after putting Optimus Prime's spark back to his body and restored the time-space continum.

If he was actually fully conscious when he came back online for that brief moment, then it means that 2 leaders who who would become legendary amongst their people {Autobots/Maximals} actually did meet for about 30 seconds and didn't exchange a word. But then againIf Prime remembered Primal at all after comming back online in 1984 it may have been like if it was a dream that you sort of remember but can't fully recall it. No Cybertronian robot modes but then they didn't have them either in G1.

In the final chapter of the story, as Convoy faces off against Black Convoy and seems to be losing, a spark that has arrived from the future merges with him to power him up. Convoy feels the experience is vaguely familiar; the resulting combined power allows him to easily reflect Black Convoy's final kill attack, obliterating him.
@fire5736 In transformer future transformers eventually evolve after the great war to smaller more advanced and energon efficient bodies, gaurdian spec transformers still retain most of the hieght and strength of the orginals but are uncommon.

@Zcrazy123 It gets kinda weird: Thundercracker and Skywarp still have F-15 wings and cockpits when their altmodes had neither, most of the seen Autobot cars have wheels despite being originally hovercrafts, and so on. I have heard one continuity explain it as the two sides having received transmissions from Earth and modified themselves accordingly, but that almost certainly doesn't apply here.

G1 had continuity problems; it's simply a fact. Constructicon origin, Dinobots being built without Vector Sigma, Autobots flying or not flying.... Mythology: Quintessons, Primus, you think they were thought of in 1984?
The reason is that the series was made on a rushed schedule, and also not designed with the expectation that it would last 3 years, let alone 27.
So why did G1 depict the TFs with Earth vehicle-influenced robot modes before they were awakened? You can come up with all the in-universe rationalizations you want but the real answer will always be a real-world one: they didn't think about or plan for it in the cartoon, didn't have the time or budget to design them, or they underestimated the kids' ability to deal with - or desire for - Cybertronian robot modes.
And just cos I recognize that doesn't mean I'm "insulting" it.

And Optimus Prime wasn't a semi yet. Optimal Optimus is a four-changer which includes a tank mode, which could well represent Prime's current pre-Earth form. The jet mode could well be a holdover from Primal's Transmetal flight mode, rather than anything to do with Prime.

@racinggreg2011 It's probably external factors, since Megatron's transformation into a dragon was likely influenced by his dip in the lava during his reformatting. Maybe his alt. modes are influenced by what he could do and what his ancestor could do?

okay there's something i don't get, Beast Wars and Beast Machines timeline was MILLIONS of years before G1, but at the end of Beast Machines, Cybertron was turned Organic, how did it became Technological again?

As awesome of a crossover as this is between the two TF series, there's one thing that still confuses me...How in the hell can Optimus Prime have the body of a cab over engine tractor trailer that won't exist for 4 million more years?
@jru42287 You'll have to ask the G1 premiere episode about that, but supposedly he doesn't. If he was to transform, he would turn into a Cybertronian vehicle mode, rather than an Earth truck, just as Wheeljack, Bumblebee, Jazz and the Decepticon jets did. It just so happens that his (and everyone else's) robot modes resemble Earth vehicles and such. When G1 was written, they didn't think too much about Cybertronian robot modes. We're a little more sophisticated now, though...
@Crazyredemu Sure it makes sense for him to become an Earth-style truck because it looks like him. But that wasn't the question. It's the other way around: why does he look like an Earth-style truck? Why does Bumblebee have VW feet before they arrive on Earth?
Either they thought 80s kids would be confused by robots they only just met suddenly looking different, or they didn't deem it important enough, considering they'd only be on Cybertron for a couple of mins. There's no in-universe reason.

@fire5736 In transformer future transformers eventually evolve after the great war to smaller more advanced and energon efficient bodies, gaurdian spec transformers still retain most of the hieght and strength of the orginals but are uncommon.

@optimussentinel66 He doesn't. Beast Wars is just painstakingly recreating G1's lack of forethought about pre-Earth forms. So you'll have to ask the first few minutes of G1's MTMTE premiere episode about that.

@Zcrazy123 It gets kinda weird: Thundercracker and Skywarp still have F-15 wings and cockpits when their altmodes had neither, most of the seen Autobot cars have wheels despite being originally hovercrafts, and so on. I have heard one continuity explain it as the two sides having received transmissions from Earth and modified themselves accordingly, but that almost certainly doesn't apply here.

when they where on Cybertron it was 4 Million years in the past my guess is they had those parts in case the form they took had them like the forms they had earlier in WFC

G1 had continuity problems; it's simply a fact. Constructicon origin, Dinobots being built without Vector Sigma, Autobots flying or not flying.... Mythology: Quintessons, Primus, you think they were thought of in 1984?
The reason is that the series was made on a rushed schedule, and also not designed with the expectation that it would last 3 years, let alone 27.

So why did G1 depict the TFs with Earth vehicle-influenced robot modes before they were awakened? You can come up with all the in-universe rationalizations you want but the real answer will always be a real-world one: they didn't think about or plan for it in the cartoon, didn't have the time or budget to design them, or they underestimated the kids' ability to deal with - or desire for - Cybertronian robot modes.
And just cos I recognize that doesn't mean I'm "insulting" it.

@racinggreg2011 Since there's no precedent, the rules for mystical swirly spark-combining magic are vague at best.
And Optimus Prime wasn't a semi yet. Optimal Optimus is a four-changer which includes a tank mode, which could well represent Prime's current pre-Earth form. The jet mode could well be a holdover from Primal's Transmetal flight mode, rather than anything to do with Prime.

@racinggreg2011 It's probably external factors, since Megatron's transformation into a dragon was likely influenced by his dip in the lava during his reformatting. Maybe his alt. modes are influenced by what he could do and what his ancestor could do?

@achang34 When they went through the "Great Upgrade" from Autobot into Maximal, they downsized into more energy-efficient forms.
This also ensures Optimus Primal does not transform into a truck-sized gorilla, or Rattrap into a car-sized rat.

@jru42287 You'll have to ask the G1 premiere episode about that, but supposedly he doesn't. If he was to transform, he would turn into a Cybertronian vehicle mode, rather than an Earth truck, just as Wheeljack, Bumblebee, Jazz and the Decepticon jets did. It just so happens that his (and everyone else's) robot modes resemble Earth vehicles and such. When G1 was written, they didn't think too much about Cybertronian robot modes. We're a little more sophisticated now, though...

@Crazyredemu Sure it makes sense for him to become an Earth-style truck because it looks like him. But that wasn't the question. It's the other way around: why does he look like an Earth-style truck? Why does Bumblebee have VW feet before they arrive on Earth?
Either they thought 80s kids would be confused by robots they only just met suddenly looking different, or they didn't deem it important enough, considering they'd only be on Cybertron for a couple of mins. There's no in-universe reason.
