That's the same thing. Even if his toe isn't come up off the board first and then down, he's still using it. But regardless, I hate labeling techniques. Do what feels natural and gives you the most control. People get so hung up on the mechanics of it that they make it harder than it needs to be.

It's called the heel toe technique

Great technique! I have a question though. How would you recomend setting up the bass drum pedal? In terms of beater height, spring tension , and how far away the beater is from the head? Thanks!
