to me this just seems like the dolphins are so bored and this is just something to keep them entertained in their small enclosures. places like seaworld are way too small for these creatures, especially when you consider how they sense their environment: through sound and echolocation, so to have them in concrete pools a fraction of the size of their natural habitat... water rings are cool, but a by-product of boredom

@MarcChristopherDon They can't. If dolphins are born in captivity they are automatically ineligible for release because humans cannot teach them how to echolocate or hunt. Therefore if the dolphins are released, they will most likely die in the wild :(

These rings aren't bubbles, but air in a spinning vortex of water. Such vortices form at different places on a dolphin's body (e.g. fins and head) and are always present. A dolphin blows air into the vortex to make it visible. When the vortex is severed from the dolphin's body, its ends are drawn together and form a spinning ring. Since the vortex consists of water, it remains weightless and can be manipulated by the motions of the water around it. Some wild oceanic dolphins do this as well.
I agree completely the genesis ecco the dolphin had amazing graphics and its 2d charm can never be lived up to, I am however playing the dreamcast version right now and its also awesome man, incredible difficult at times but amazing to look at.
Before you all go praising these animals, let me warn you: dolphin meat is delicious. I like to braise it in a garlic sauce and dip it in mustard sauce.
On a more positive note; Dolphins are so beutiful. They move with such grace and elegence. I always knew that Dolphins are intelligent, but I never understood how amazingly intelligent they actually are. They (like most animals) need to be in wide open spaces. These rings aren't bubbles, but air in a spinning vortex of water. Such vortices form at different places on a dolphin's body (e.g. fins and head) and are always present. A dolphin blows air into the vortex to make it visible. When the vortex is severed from the dolphin's body, its ends are drawn together and form a spinning ring. Since the vortex consists of water, it remains weightless and can be manipulated by the motions of the water around it. Some wild oceanic dolphins do this as well.

On a more positive note; Dolphins are so beutiful. They move with such grace and elegence. I always knew that Dolphins are intelligent, but I never understood how amazingly intelligent they actually are. They (like most animals) need to be in wide open spaces. They are really socialable and very sensetive creatures. Man, I wished I lived close to were they hang out.
