Crainer, collect dirt and fill in some of the bottom, I'm not OCD, but zombies, skeletons, and anything that's about 2 blocks tall or less can spawn, especially since there is enoguh space for spiders to spawn too [spiders take up 2x2, and 1 block tall]

The 'cut down the whole tree with only cutting the bottom block' still works, you just need a better axe.. Also, crafting goes up really quick by turning wood to wooden planks.. So do that :)
