What the fuck has happened to Ed man. He's maybe my favourite actor, right up there with Malkovich for me.
He had a few groundbreaking films, then some lowkey ones and hasn't done a decent or big film in quite a while. And quite a few of his recent attempts have tanked, he needs a serious career boost.
@leopoldvs He already has directed. And I agree, he should definitely be doing bigger things.
He apparently had a fair deal of creative input on '25th Hour', I watched the interview with him and Spike Lee. He also did on 'Fight Club' and 'American History X' - I believe he always makes his characters smarter...
I think he argued to make Derek Vinyard much more intelligent to make it more realistic and to make the conflict more uncomfortable. He's a smart man.
@WelshDegenerate He is indeed very smart...he did a good convincing job playing David Banner too and the "Ultrasonic Cannons" attacking The Hulk were his idea!...so, he's also very creative. THUMBS UP for you :)
@perfectshot77 i feel like @churchy99's comment is relevant. you're looking at the actor as the character, rather than investing in the character along with the story itself. take primal fear, the simple dynamic between quiet, stuttering, altar boy aaron compared to roy, who's strong and can fend for himself. he can switch between those two characters in the blink of an eye and it's all because of how he uses his voice. he has talent and it's his job to make you believe in the story.
i liked Ed Norton Jr. before this interview and now having watched it, I respect him even more and that's saying a lot. Primal Fear, American History X, Red Dragon, and Fight Club, are all classics imo and the list goes on... he's a great actor, he's extremely intelligent, and his did seem quite humble and down to earth... unless he's acting in this interview... lol
"sometimes you gotta have the humility to go: i'd like to do this but i'm not the [right guy for the part]." it says a lot about norton that he believes the role should choose its actor and not vice versa. very humble, insightful guy as this vid shows.
Who's getting interviewed edward or george? George, stop speaking like you're interrogating. There's a fine line between being a good conversationalist and being overly confident. Please know where you stand. Tone it down.
@mjb785 Method and character do not refer to the same thing. Method refers to the way in which one acts, character refers to the type of roles that a person takes. His leading roles have on the whole been stylized and YES, character.
I love edward!! He is so well spoken and is such a true actor, which is quite the rarity these days. Can't get enough of the guy !!! And george asks some decent questions, not like most interviewers who just blab on about nonsense.
This is TV interviewing gold. The (flat out) greatest actor of our generation interviewed by one of the best young talk show hosts working today. The collective intelligence is huge.
for those people saying he has no charisma- he is just intelligent, and gives insightful answers to the questions put to him(unlike most actors). to me it appears he takes his profession seriously. He's a legend actor! primal fear-should have won an oscar.
@snapnorthern Who says he has no charisma? "he is just intelligent, and gives insightful answers to the questions put to him." If that's not a part of a charismatic character then I have misunderstood the meaning of the word.

i've often thought the same. pulls off some very exciting performances, but seems very very boring in person. proves what a great actor he is i guess, right?!?
Edward Norton is a really great actor because he is able to do one thing that is hardest as an actor and most others in his circle don't do - you see him as a character, not Edward Norton playing a character.

"pooisgood123"- first off, don't you mean PSEUDO intellectual youtuber? Second, the comment by "churchy99" DOES in fact make sense because some actors are only seen in the realm of "character acting," as in the DIRECTOR casts the actor to depict a specific character with very specific emotions in a specific part - it lacks substance. Actors like Edward Norton bring much, much more to the table in a sense that a director casts Edward Norton to be Edward Norton, not just the character he depicts.
yes thanks for the condesending spell correction, u know what i ment, but u know, assert your superior intelect over my unappreciative drongo, uncultured, blue collared appreciation for art. i'm sure your quite the sophisticated critic, go watch more 'transformers 2' bitch.

hahaha good for u, u understood my inclusion of the hidious excuse for a movie transformers 2. and i am not ashamed for accusing you of liking transformers 2, i think its quite funny indeed.
I don't even like George 'Unpronouncable Last Name' (probably because I first saw him on MuchMoreMusic), but he manages to get some really interesting guests on this show and asks them decent questions.
Edward Norton is a *great* actor, and he comes across wonderfully in these interviews as a thoughtful person who enjoys what he does but isn't full of BS - I think it was great that he got a chance to discuss his art here rather than just sell his current movie...great interview questions.
Brilliant actor and top of the line interview! I hope George can keep the quality of the interviewes coming to us at this level/caliber for a long, long time. Great interview George!
Great interview. :) The last part of the line from The Painted Veil was the most poignant, in my opinion - "I despise myself." "Why?" "For allowing myself to love you once."
I think George Stroumboulopoulos can really hit it off. Some of his interviews are the best, but I've seen him off the track sometimes. See his interview with Al Gore for an example.
I wish we had shows like this in the States, and this interviewer seems to make his guests fit right at home. Also, after hearing Norton talk about the absurdity of awards and competition among actors, I can now understand why George C. Scott rejected his oscar for Patton.
This is the interview that all Edward Norton fans needed to watch. This really gets into the mindset of how Edward perceives his career and the industry. He is not blinded by the glamour and fame, but by the joy of being an actor and enjoying good work from his peers. Edward is definitely a rare find. I respect and love him even more if it is possible.
I agree with you. I enjoyed watching this interview a lot more than some others because of the great questions George asked. Some interviewers are just horrible and I cringe when I hear their stupid questions that Edward has to answer...

I don't get a lot of people's gripe with him here...
I've seen a lot of his interviews before and didn't agree with any of these negative comments regarding his personality...
So I was expecting him to be out-of-character or an ass here or something. But he was courteous, affable and honest, I don't see people's problem.
People now call anybody who isn't overly falsely humble (cringing) and pathetically apologetic about... Existing, an egomanic lmao.
