Cappuccilli was a magnificent operatic specimen of a baritone. I think with an aria as beautiful as this one though it's better suited to the passion of a tenor's voice. Baritones, even if singing beautifully about love, have a distinctly more fatherly or grandfatherly quality to the voice, a maturity and or, in some cases, cunning and knowledge or slyness. The soprano doesn't fall the the baritone! The baritone is also normally the hate-their-guts villain!
Who is this "Scalpam" boasting that he has sung this rep! Probably anotherone of those belting baritones we hear so much of desperately trying to emulate the sound of capu. This rep should be sung beautifully and simply, almost like a tenor. Thats why so many baritones are burnt out these days. Please listen to the oldies- early 1900's- we have got to bring back that way of singing so as to reinject something sensitive in this new coarse vulgar world we are in.
Will someone explain to me what they see in this horrble rendition of this wonderful bel canto aria. Where is the true vulnerable qaulity in the voice.I just don't get it. The top sounds squeezed and tired. There is no remorse in this singing. Yet everyon ethinks it great.
@MrPanzer44 Either you hear it or you don't. Impossible to explain. There are bound to be varying subjective responses, but your use of the word 'horrible' suggest to me that you need a new set of ears altogether.
I agree with Nskull. this is not good singing. Lets get off this over the top adoration for capu. I mean just listen. The last high note sounds pushed and big wobble. Can't compare to Luca, ruffo, Stracc, etc
In my opinion this is filthy contrived and flat singing. scooping all over the place and sounding like an old man before his time. You cannot compare to de luca, or even panorai for that matter!
yes, upon hearing this again I realize that the pitches are all basically accurate. To be clear-I worship this man, but I don't think this his best role. For me, Verdi suits him better. I retract the "flat" comment.
Thank You for realizing what I meant to tell you. Never meant to insult you but yet to correct you. If the language I used to reply your comment was too harsh , I apologize.
Bel Canto baritone just doesn't get any better than that. Never has done, not even De Luca, and I don't expect it never will, cetainly during my lifetime. Not sure its even possible. This may be perfection.
In the words of a well respected opera singer on hearing this for the first time when I played it for her...."That's F*****g FANTASTIC!!! That's what that is!!!!"

He 's a king but this registration is not his best. The intonation is often to low and he 's not together with the orchester.

Vorrei sapere chi sono i due imbecilli che hanno votato contro. Come tutte le interpretazioni di Cappuccilli anche questa e' meravigliosa.

And you're such a fan of Panerai that you don't even know how to spell his name correctly.
Right.
Clueless.

Dear NSkull,
I know the music extremely well and perform this on a regular basis. Consider who you're addressing before being an ass.
