VBA riffs and runs were imitated across the country in the 80's and early 90's. She was the epitome of a "singers singer". Everybody loves Karen. She is an amazing vocalist and has a beautiful spirit to match. However, Nessa was the female vocalist other singers and Gospel artists studied and desired to imitate.

So many people get caught up on who can scream the highest note and they classify who sings the highest as the better singer & they are wrong. It's quality of voice, technique and the annointing. Vanessa has all three. If the annointing was not in the room her skills would still break the yoke!

I always say each diva is the best at what they do. Yes, Dorinda for sure got mad runs, thats why Karen took one of them at the end of this when she does yeah yeah yeah yeah real low, Rinda was doing that way before, and she got that from her older Sisters Rinda and Twinkie. If anything her older sisters influence Karen's style. Dorinda and Nessa sound very very similar if you ask me and sometimes it hard to tell them apart especially when singing together, but Nessa could go higher and do more things.

Even with the echoes Vanessa did her this time. But if you really listen Vanessa was hoarse but VBA still was better vocally. Vanessa did everything in the book.

I know her range is sick and I think Nessa could even do whistle notes in her prime. She is a raspy soprano for sure, but in her youth her voice was clear. I would say she is dramatic soprano.

Nessa ear is genius like, she could be as raspy as she wants and still be doing so much vocally. I never heard a voice like hers it so unique. I love how she went down to bass at the end. Beast!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Even 2:22-2:23 is high soprano belts. I always said she was dramatic soprano cause even raspy she still can sing high soprano with ease and loud. Younger she used to belt way higher though with clarity

Vanessa can are you crazy. Twinkie and Karen both learned from VBA. VBA can go up and down like a twink of eye. Karen is the best at what she does now, but can't nobody I mean nobody do the complex things Nessa does. Nobody is seeing Nessa Bell Armstrong. She is a genius vocally!

Karen Clark Sheard runs are not all that to be honest. Chrystal Rucker could out run Karen any day of the week and thats the truth. Karen is mad creative and you don't know what she going to do, but Chrystal Rucker could outrun anybody except VBA.

I take that back Karen runs are lethal, but there is something about VBA though that makes hers stand out. They are mad mad complex, only Nessa knows what she is doing. But no doubt Karen is most creative and flexible vocally. We don't know how Karen going to sound and thats the truth. Chrystal Rucker is mad complex too. I take that back, but the only one that can see Karen with runs is VBA and thats it.

VBA riffs and runs were imitated across the country in the 80's and early 90's. She was the epitome of a "singers singer". Everybody loves Karen. She is an amazing vocalist and has a beautiful spirit to match. However, Nessa was the female vocalist other singers and Gospel artists studied and desired to imitate.

@Lovealloveme You r absolutely correct. U can not compare other singers with Vanessa. They all have different styles of singing. I think we are expressing that Vanessa is our favorite female stylist. So many people get caught up on who can scream the highest note and they classify who sings the highest as the better singer & they are wrong. It's quality of voice, technique and the annointing. Vanessa has all three. If the annointing was not in the room her skills would still break the yoke!

VBA is the "Queen Riffer" " . Karen's cousin J Moss said that in an interview on youtube. In her prime VBA went unmatched. No female artist was doing the riffs/runs she did not to mention her soulfulness.
However, Karen is a BEAST. Her vocals are powerful and her range has always been unmatched! They are both great at what they do!

Thank you. Nessa taught both Twinkie and Karen. Nessa was doing echos way before KCS and lot of the runs you hear Karen doing Nessa was doing way before. Also Nobody growls or squails like Nessa Bell Armstrong, the only one close is Beverly Crawford. I love me some Karen, but Nessa is her mother vocally period.

I always say each diva is the best at what they do. Nobody does the mad complex riffs and runs like Nessa, Nobody is more free spirit and creative as Karen, Nobody more sounds like an angel and has the ability to do limitless things in their prime like Whitney. Each singer has their place if you know what I mean.

Yes, Dorinda for sure got mad runs, thats why Karen took one of them at the end of this when she does yeah yeah yeah yeah real low, Rinda was doing that way before, and she got that from her older Sisters Rinda and Twinkie. If anything her older sisters influence Karen's style. Dorinda and Nessa sound very very similar if you ask me and sometimes it hard to tell them apart especially when singing together, but Nessa could go higher and do more things.

@MrPlayingHands - Karen Clark is my girl now don't get you wrong, but I must admit if this was a singing contest and Karen had not done those echos, Karen would have lost. Even with the echoes Vanessa did her this time. Now I have seen Karen do Vanessa too but it wasn't because Karen really out sung Vanessa, it was because Karen hit a not above Vanessa and everybody went crazy. But if you really listen Vanessa was hoarse but VBA still was better vocally. Vanessa did everything in the book.
