I am finishing a film that simply displays 10 Tibetan refugees telling their personal stories in Tibetan, directly to the camera with no editing, no coaching, etc. It will be of interest only to Tibetans, of course.
A film maker, alternatively, must also face Western audiences tastes and attention spans (as it appears Mr. Martini did--in his style). Thus, I have a second film of these refugees telling their stories, edited and in English translations, and illustrated with animated visuals.
Communist China must respect Human Rights and stop its policy of inhuman treatment of Tibetans n Christians n Foreigner discrimnation before the Olympic games can have value. This sweetgame has been rocked with violence and disorder around the world because Chinese Communist government does not want to free Tibetans. They claim to have a free and fair system but the reality is China needs tobe an eye-opener for the world governments to intervene. Its Human Right record is poor n Tibetans suffer.
Deluded folk. Tibetan is alive and being taught in schools all over Tibet. China has doen a lot of good in Tibet. Visit it and ask the people there. had it not been so the Chinese Governemnt would not have had the confidence of allowing so many anti-Chinese westerners there.
thanks for posting Ubiuman. There's an old saying "Free yourself, and free the world." from my world view, I can see China struggling with its identity in this modern world - once they come to appreciate that Tibetans as their brothers, and not servants, or property, the world will change. And I'm not referring to Chinese people, who are kind and generous, but to the current regime. Once China is free, Tibet will be free. And I will check out the film, post a link if you have one. thanks.
martinifilm, thanks for this documentary. I completely agree with "help china first, then tibet" because it's the only way out of the situation. americans especially don't understand how complicated and corrupt the political situation is in China. I would personally recommend "life and death in shanghai" because it speaks directly and honestly about the way the government worked in the time of Mao, and continues to work. Both China and Tibet need help.
The BEST way I can see for pressure to be put on the chinese communist party is for the whole WORLD to find out the TRUTH about china and all the countries that the chinese communist party has invaded.
Things are worse for Tibetans in Tibet than Chinese in China. No doubt things are also very BAD for people in the other invaded countries as well.
The BEST and easiest way for the world to WAKE UP and find out the TRUTH is to watch videos which clearly show just how BAD things are.
The same thing happened to my Aunty who went ot Tibet but the experience was traumatic because she was told to speak chinese wherever she went in Lhasa. She learnt Tibetan with difficulty only as 17 year adult and this language didnt seem to be much of use in Lhasa. She speaks 6 other languages and is a doctor and western educated. She says she can never go to lhasa again, its too humiliating.
Thank you very much for the information. Your comment shows how rapdily the Tibetan language is being wiped out and is good evidence of the Cultural Genocide in Tibet.
Sounds like a tragic experience 119967 chado, and not uncommon throughout history, in many places where governments sought to control and homogenize portions of their population who wished to save one of the most precious (if not the most precious) aspects of their culture, language. And the controllers also achieve another end, they distort that culture's history, belief system(s) and identity. Just look how long it took the world to appreciate the Native American culture for that reason!
If no invasion, no illegal occupation, no massive movement of Han-Chinese into Tibet, no forced absorbing of Tibetan territories into China, then no demonstration, no violence, no stone throwing, nor burning, and thus no one hurt, no Chinese harmed, killed or injured or property damaged. Problem solved!
Cut the crap. You were posing like a separatist what did you expect? The problem was not by saying "free tibet" or even the demonstration itself. It was the violence and turmoil associated with these demonstrations every and each time in the last few decades. You might say because they were so angry. Well, people can get angry. But you don't throw stones into the White House and expect to get away with it, do you?
What crap would you like me to cut? The problem; you think Tibet is part of China. Fine. You can have it. But why not treat Tibetans like fellow citizens, equal, as other Chinese? Why not treat them like brothers? If the Dalai Lama is born in Chinese Tibet, why not claim him as a Chinese hero? Yes, I can throw stones at the White House whenever I want. It's called Free Speech my friend, which many Americans fought and died for. You deserve it as well. Hence why I let you to post this nonsense.
I'm speaking metaphorically. I am free to insult Bush. Insult the U.S. Burn the Flag. Tell the police to get lost. You can go to court and argue against people who abuse power. I've been to the White House. In the halls of power. And I'm free to make an ass of myself anytime I want. That's what you get with free speech. When people say "Free Tibet" they mean "Free China" too. You should be free to say what you want, my friend, anywhere, anytime. Welcome to the world of free speech.
The United Nations should condemn guantanamo. But no one has the courage to. Drapchi prison is the Guantanamo of China. Cattle prods instead of water boarding. All torture is bad. Laws and courts and people deciding who rules them is a good system, and the courts of China are on their way to being a good system. I hope you are never put into prison for saying what you believe, my friend.
He put up a banner that said "Free Tibet." For that he was beaten and tortured. Free speech is what we all want my friend. Even you. Even me. And here on youtube you have it. No one will put me in prison and beat me for saying Free Tibet or for having a picture of the Dalai Lama. We all want the same thing - for China and Tibet. Free speech. Respect for each other. That's all the Tibetans want. Respect.
Try Free California or Free Texas or Free Hawaii and I think you might get a different treatment. Are you sure he didn't do anything besides putting up that banner? Judging from the recent episodes, it would be difficult to categorize them as peaceful protesters. I am sure you would get arrested as well in US if you throw stones in a protest. No?
I've been to China and I've been to Tibet. The Chinese soldiers in both places are extremely different. The laws are different. A govt. spy in Lhasa told me to "stop speaking Tibetan, you are in China." The guards and soldiers in Tibet are much harder on Tibetans - why? Who knows? They hate living there perhaps. But yes, you can be imprisoned and tortured for saying "free tibet" or putting up a banner. I've spoken to many, too many, who've had that happen to them. Free China too, my friend.
Martinfilm, just curious where did you learn Tibetan language? I respect you on the effort you spent for the cause you believe in. I am just saying that I would like to see a little bit more objectivity. There are problems in Tibet, that's for sure. I don't think I trust every word from the gov. But it's hard for one to believe what the other side claim either. 1.2 million genocide, do you believe it?
My friend. I'll try to open up my own eyes about who you are as well. I respect your efforts to critique my film by saying that I either didn't make it well enough, or didn't tell the whole story. I spoke with enough Tibetans to tell their story however. And no one is asking them how they feel about leaving their country or why. "Hard to believe the other side's claim;" -it's not the 'other side.' It's your side; your brothers, fellow countrymen. The interviews were done by a Tibetan, not me.
I am totally confused. Last post you said someone told you "stop speaking Tibetan, you are in China.". Now that you didn't do the interview. Am I missing something?
I thought you were asking if I did the Tibetan portion of the interview. In Lhasa I was greeting people in the old Holiday Inn hotel in Tibetan and asking how their day was going when an idiot came up to me in his brown suit and said "Don't speak Tibetan, you are in China." I also asked directions in Tibetan to young girl I met in a store; she said in English "I don't speak Tibetan. I'm Chinese." Which is typical. They hate living in Lhasa, and hate the Tibetans, their food and culture. Simple.
Fair. Now you didn't do the Tibetan portion of the interview. How could you be so sure about its objectivity/authenticity and used in your "documentary"? Now if Tibetan is not taught in school, this young girl (and I assume she is not a Tibetan from what she said according to you) certainly wouldn't understand Tibetan. How could she tell you were speaking Tibetan (do you really)? It's very untypical for a human anywhere to react like this to language they don't understand, isn't it?

People who do not know about Tibet go to Tibet and they come back brainwashed. I have seen it.
Tibetans would like their country back.
If things were good in Tibet reporters would be allowed in Tibet, but reporters are not allowed in Tibet.
