@Hadsatriani It is best to wait until the female is freshly moulted before mating them. The male will spin what is known as a 'sperm web' which is his preparation to meet a female and then you can try introducing him to one.
As speed goes, they are not too bad and they are fairly predictable in my opinion. Just let the male come out by himself or insert something between them to stop the female trying to eat him afterwards and it's as simple as that :)
