Jesus, these "X has let himself go" comments on every Lee post are tedious. Talk about completely missing the point of what he is doing... He favours the idea of comedy reducing entirely to style and delivery, but I wonder if that's possible when people are going to endlessly requote an earlier "catchphrase",
I've nothing against twitter, but i don't think Stewart Lee should've any part of it.
Even if he did it well, and he undoubtedly would, and used it to promote himself, and he deserves all the promotion he can get, i still feel it would diminish him.
Firstly, he seems to understand the seemingly lost art of retaining a certain sense of mystery.
Secondly, he obviously puts a lot of thought and work into his craft; if he tweeted it would be like seeing a prime Muhammad Ali knocking out fly-weights.
I wonder what Lee thinks of Herring's slightly unnerving Internet presence. Their approaches are polar opposites, Lee (I think rightly) sparingly puts stuff out there and never really personal while Herring's blog is like reading someone's personal diary, warts and all. It doesn't help anyone when a performer puts it all out there, you need to keep things secret, there's no mystique or interest when you know the person is just a normal guy struggling like the rest of us.
@retread01 They both do what works for them, I think. Herring has gained a large following whilst being accessible, and Lee has gained a large following whilst being somewhat more enigmatic. The bottom line, however, is that they are both funny; all of the accessibility or enigmaticosticism in the world won't put bums on seats by itself.
Stewart lee has let himself go, it seems.

Maybe Kevin Eldon could open a Twitter account and just send one single tweet saying "I AM ROD HULL!" just for old times sake.
