  • Thanks for posting.

I lived in an M60A1 for two years In Germany in 1974.

I can still close my eyes and see every compartment.

    Pull the pack(engine).

It was so cold in Germany that the Infantry would stand behind us in the exhaust to keep warm.

I can still see our loader Maurice reading a comic book. Our Gunner Freddie asleep.

  • She's still a bad-ass ol' gal, even after all these years!

  • Not a Patton tank. Just a M60A1. I was a tank mechanic (63C mos) from 1980 to 1982. C company 2/33 armor regiment in the 3rd Armored Divison. Short of rebuilding the engine and transmission, I worked on these tanks. Just as I was getting out of the Army my company got the M60A3's. The M-1 Abrams tank was already out and in service when I got out of the Army in 1982.

  • Reminds me of B-35 2/64th good memory

  • that's the sound of victory!

  • That was the best tank as far as crew comfort. The m88 was vastly more comfortable but was a recovery veh. When we got the m1's we were a little put off by the cramptness dut we liked the speed and 120mm and the loader got a m240 I still like the m60a3 and would still like to pop the turret off a t72 anny time

  • good old american steel.

  • Has anyone ever been decapitated or cut in half by a rotating turret? When chrome dome stuck his head out, I was almost expecting that to happen, LOL.

  • @jrg8008 That does look scary. I would not want to be a tank driver because of that. My dad told me stories were tankers got their head's cut off by the turret of the leopard 1.

  • @mcbain434444 unless you climb out of the drivers hatch while the turrent is turning then you will not be decapitated or cut in half. the main power switch is in the drivers hatch. usually when you shut down the main gun is in the travel lock and you crawl out through the turrent.

  • AMEN to that. From a old m60A1 crewman(Berlin Brigade) 40th Armor FOREVER!!!!! i would like to know where they filmed this. I would pay them MONEY to have a chance to drive a deatr old m60 just one for time.

  • @berlinbear40 me too, feeling of power

  • Hey, what's that camera guy doing?! You NEVER walk between a stationary and running tracked vehicles. lol I got my ass smoked for doing that one time.

  • Hooah!

  • you need to take it out and drive it..
