  • This is so true!

  • I'm trying to relate this to Tony Robbins' Human Needs Psychology.

    They seem very similar.

  • What an excellent video ! Thank you for this presentation. Thank you for posting it !

  • I watched this vid with excitement, but my

depression and social anxiety are so bad

that I don't even leave the house 95% of

the time, my childhood was horrible, in

truth my entire family should've been

locked up along time ago, I feel as

    though they brainwashed me. Because

I feel so strongly I cannot change. Can

You Please Help Me, because I really

    don't want to use drugs.

  • @IAmIntelligence I am proud of you for realizing the impact of your situation, realizing your personal dysfunction is the first step to changing it. All people have some sort of dysfunction on diffrent levels and at varying degrees. Since you feel incapable of leaving the house, I'd say you are experiencing an extremely severe degree of dysfunction, obviously as a result of your childhood and life growing up, and for that I am very sorry. It's not your fault. Please email me, I will help you.

  • @SelfActualizeSarah I have nothing against what ur doing, because you might help some people and that will in turn help you. What I am against is when you say to someone you will help them and then charge them £5 for a self help CD, They are the sort of people I hate. If you make no profit from this then I have nothing against you.

  • interesting video

  • I am all for a different approach to the chemcial one. But this video annoys me. I hate pyramid diagrams that try to explain all human emotion. This video is far too preachy and know it all, there are lots of holes in anyone who has a universal view. Thats what this video fails to highlight.

  • @JacobsJaffa How can one explain the ENTIRE scope of human emotion in one 7 minute video, it's impossible. It's impossible to explain the entire scope of human emotion period. Diagrams and flow charts are used as an overview, for you to analyze and break down into parts when diagnosing your personal fulfillment criteria. No one has figured out the entire scope of human emotion and behavior, don't know if we ever will, but if you have an explanation I'd be happy to hear it.

  • @SelfActualizeSarah exactly, which is why shakespeare is so successful centuries later, he writes about the unchanging cycle of human emotion. It is impossible to ever get a universial view, i dont have one but i dont create preachy videos that pretend one exists. We are all a product of circumstance and if we truly want to change anything we have to do it ourselves but sometimes the most important things in this world we have no control over whatsoever.

  • The sound playing when she speaks is very unsettling.

  • hehe...." go to a doctor , take a tablet and go to dinner with them...", lol...good point there.......

  • Hi, thanks for the video. I like, stuff like this is needed to help the world be a better place. I have one point: when you were talking about "would you be happy if you lived in war zone, or with abusive husband" I think one very important thing can be mentioned - the abuse of children - verbal, physical, neglect, not supporting them, punishing... How we experience the world as we are children, that's how we will recreate it later if we didn't processed it. Cheers, and keep the good work. M.

  • @MartinRonky !!!Exactly!!! I TOTALLY agree!! Do you think many people are interested in that? VOTE THIS UP IF YOU DO! ... I REALLY want to do a video or few on that subject exactly. I know that change will only come if we teach our children, if we train the brain at an early age. That's why early childhood education and development has become my passion, I realized this fact at an early age. Thank you. I believe in you too! :-)

  • @SelfActualizeSarah Hmm, unfortunately I think very few people are interested in self-knowledge and growth. It would require them see what their parents (and religions, states as well) done wrong or even worse what they have done wrong already if they have kids. But I hope this is not discouraging, there are people who are interested! You may like stefbot's youtube channel, he has some good stuff about families, upbringing and society. If you make some vids, let me know, I'd like to see em. :)

  • @MartinRonky Yes, I agree, unfortunately. That's why I stick to teaching kids, because they just take it as it is without feeling judged or that they, their religion, or their parents did something wrong. Kids just build themselves step by step and want to be successful. Adults feel depressed about being unsuccessful in the past, can't accept mistakes, and feel stuck preferring to live in misery rather than taking the time to analyze their life and make necessary changes for happiness & success.

  • Very nice, Sarah!!!! Great video, great solutions!! I esp. liked the part about not going out to dinner w/him!! That was awesome!! Depression "runs in my family" (though, now, I'm starting to rethink that phrase!) and we don't believe in taking meds either. It's nice to have this explained in such real-world terms!! Have been studying this theory in my ed classes. But, you have brought it to life and made it real for me. Keep up the good work!!

  • @MUSEicalTorch ...Thanks man! I totally appreciate that :-) Seems real to me too!

  • nice boobies , take your top off miss sara . )~~

  • excellent video. the most logical and cogent approach to depression I have ever seen/heard. Big Pharma and the AMA haven't tried to take this video down yet?

  • @TheGoodeProject ... Haha! :-) I know right?! When it comes to Truth or Money, we are aware of how our society is run, and it's not by being honest.

  • So I need to figure out how to do my job in a way that gets my self actualization needs met. I have done it before. I need to do a lot of thinking. Some times you really are stuck and have to make the best of what you have.

  • amazing explanaiton

  • Great video, My fundamental reason to be happy is to have control in my life. It is clear that unsatisfied needs can put in risk my mind control, but it is my responsibility to solve situation on my emotional benefit. A frustrated life is the hell.

  • Not all situations can be solved. This is the only country in the world which allows the evil corporations to say if you are not rich, you need not apply for any job because you must submit to a pre employment credit check. And then if you are a regular person who made the mistake of going to school ... you are really screwed; forever - with no way out.

  • @smartification1 I totally agree with you, capitalism is not fair, has no sense of justice and equity. In the other side Socialism and comunism creates poverty for all people. We as the new generation must impulse a new economic and social way to allow people have the opportunities in a justice and equity environment. Hope soon we make it real.

  • @crac777 Capitalism without laws to protect people from the rich is communism. What we have now is nothing but a charade of democracy. The private bank cartel which owns the falsely named US Federal Reserve is in control of the economy; and has been since 1913. We need to do what Iceland did and take our democracy back from this evil bank cartel.

  • Very good vid.... mine is love/belonging..

  • Great video. I agree with it. I used to have a job and at one meeting they actually said that working there will never lead to self actualization and, if that was what we wanted out of life, we should quit immediately. Nobody did! Not even me. But I did eventually.

  • You hear that? She says the president has the potential to bag groceries! That's positive.

  • To the beautiful female presenter of this vid! WILL YOU MARRY ME! I'M IN LOVE! =D

  • Cool vid=D Thanks for the sub and post!

    Peace;]

  • Excellent video!!!

  • squares are black colored insect parasites that give everyone cancer by looking at them.

  • when you experience mind gnashing paranoia on lsd, you in fact are making spiritual progress in all and everything you can possibly do and be. this is a bunch of garbage, this video, and the essence of life is illegal.

you can die from these needs not being met, it is the source of cancer, you will smoke cigarettes until you die or eat yourself to death or something else. LSD and DMT are the healthiest things that ever will exist, the superantioxidants

  • its no differant from freud smoking crack and inventing the concept of the science of psychology, a thouroughly useless science.

  • people can die without sex. the subject of mind control, for one, the very name of the topic alone, I haven't watched your video, but mind control is associated with a racist smear campaign by a racist faction of the government, the CIA< against psychedelic sacraments such as lsd and the like, all because it was suggested by some quack, well they didn't even suggest that mind control had anything to do with lsd, they just used it in theior mind control experiments, mind controll is a myth, pig

  • Maslow's hierarchy of needs is twice as unscientific as psychiatry. This is pathetic. Self-esteem has proven to be failure to improve performance and life. While I reject taking a pill for feeling bad--which harms your brain. I am also opposed to accepting eastern mysticism veiled in western science.

  • I used to be clinically depressed. Maslows pyramid has helped me tremendously back then. It is great that you are talking about it here. Also I think this should be common knowledge. This would help a lot with prevention of depression.

  • @DerAua ... Thank you, I agree. I am glad you are on the path of self-realization to potential actualization. It's a constant battle isn't it?! To stay there, allowing yourself to realize your true power instead of talking yourself out of it?! A daily, weekly, moment to moment state of being that requires constant, conscious thought and action, to focus on actualizing yourself... it's worth the glory, if we've got the guts.

  • Great videao, I would submit that from personal experience antidepressant medication when carefully monitored by a Doctor can have a dramatic positive influence in regaining mental health. I think you should regard responsible antidepressant medication in a more positive light,

You seem to disapprove of antidepressants in all circumstances, where general practice medical practitioners may need to subscribe antidepressants on a case by case basis. My advise, find a good Doctor and work with them

  • @mation007 You are one of the very few luck ones. I make my living supporting people who have listened to the type of advice you are dishing out, and have lived to regret having done so.

  • That was lovely. Thanks

  • Thank u

  • I seem to stop at love/belonging, thanks helped alot.Glad I didn't go for the Paxil.

  • wow your sexy & smart !!!!!! im in love

  • I am clinically depressed. And I completely agree.

  • Great video. You really hit the nail on the head. Good job! Keep em coming!

  • Thank you so much. Very helpful. Keep the Videos COMING! :D

  • 100% CORRECT!!!!!

  • This is too simplistic...many people have an imagined sense of lack or unrealistic expectations even in perfectly normal and healthy situations. I do agree that people can only be happy when they are striving to be their personal best, but if someone expects to experience happiness from the consequences of high self-esteem and respect (like good sex life and meaningful work), it's not a step by step process. Imho, we always have to take higher values into account even in simple tasks.

  • Interesting perspective; thank you.

  • all is she doing is stating the painfully obvious

  • @Tolstoievsky Obvious to you and I, but there are 6 or 7 billion other people on the planet.

  • your 100% correct depression is ones spiritual needs not being met.

    Thanks for psy truth :)

  • on a side note, I love Maslow =D

  • sex doesn't belong there.

  • @123451417 sex belongs there, rather... sexual gratification/pleasure. SO maybe you don't need sex, but masturbation in lieu of it. You need a release of that sex drive. Every human has one (if you dont, gtfo, you cannot help the human race ) however small it may be. You can't beat this desire back, you need to... appease it, through either sex or masturbation...

    just saying

  • @EuphoricDystopia But if you frequently have sex with different people you can kill 3 birds with one stone: sex drive, self esteem, connectivity. (in fact, all the participants do, depending of their experiences).

Tough, i think pyramidal hierarchi is not the best presentation, i think a conditioned weighted graph would be more descriptive. also, the four high levels frequently intermix, (in my opinion).

  • @mzoltan14 whoa, dont make me go health teacher mode on you. I encourage masturbation over intercourse because a) it's safer and b) unfortunately in our society, sex has developed this negative connotation. While sex is good and all, you dont want to be going out and screwing around with a bunch of random people. It may help your self esteem, but then again it may also help you die faster by something called HIV/AIDS. Of course this is a radical statement, but you get my point.

  • @EuphoricDystopia Yeah, you got a point. But of course you can always have group masturbations.

    Just sayin.

  • good video and topic. prob one of the best from this channel in a very very long time.

  • How can I find YOUR teaching videos? As there are so many but I seem to enjoy your method/speaking the very best....makes it more fun to listen and learn...

  • very good very good ^^ keep up the good work ! thanks !

  • Videos like this caused me to subscribe last year.

  • thanks for this! you're great! =)

  • Self Actualization - Acceptance by seals :)

  • Anti-depressants are neurotoxic e.g; a poison that should not be in the body.

If a 'doctor' ever tells anybody to that they must take an anti-depressant; make sure that they ask if the 'doctor' will, you'll be suprised how many wouldn't dare touch the stuff.

  • diagnosed w/PTSD and professionals constantly trying to tell me im a victim then suggest i need meds i told them i was not a vitim and would not take meds they would argue they new better this vidio is more proof its up to an individual to take charge of ther own recovery its a choice

  • @huntspools

You may Like this guys teaching too. watch?v=aA4HwFHiYyA Neale, work has been the biggest blessing to me and in my life to other people.

Just thought to share as you can see through the bs that traditional docs would make you believe.

    Blessed Be

  • none of my needs are met

    everyday is a new low

  • @themeaningoflife38 *hugs* I feel you

  • @themeaningoflife38 Take action. Be nice to people who need it. Then start thinking of possible and positive solutions and act on them despite fear. Refuse to rag on yourself. Refuse ragging on others.

  • @themeaningoflife38 wow that sounds painful marvin. what do you intend to do about it?

  • I am a widower, and having gone through the grieving process I am extremely unhappy living alone, I also find it very difficult to socialize, I can see the reasons from your chart ,self esteem, loneliness, and unfilled potential. Now I have to work out what to do about it.

  • @Les5146 ... Good job :-) That's exactly right! You can do it, you can take control of those feelings and start to rule your life again, instead of allowing those feelings to control you. Awareness is the first step! ;-)

  • I am unhappy because I believe you - don't do these videos NAKED!

  • @2JOHNNYT ?

  • Do you think its possible that Maslow was wrong and the most basic needs we have are social? looks that way to me,

  • @PBrofaith

Social needs are absolutely important, you´re right. The human being highly depends on it. Still, we need to survive the next few days and therefore need nutrition and shelter, which simply goes first. What I still think is that the importance of social needs is underestimated by most people. It is so essential.

  • @Zexel14 I can see what you mean, however when we come into this world we are completely dependant on the relationship we have with others who provide the required nutrition and shelter.

  • @PBrofaith an interesting point. I have heard that new born babies will often not thrive or survive if social contact is withheld from them, even if their basic physiological needs are met.

  • Where did you guys come from, yall go to the same college or something??

  • Way to truly be happy? You said it, "Self-Actualization"! Find a way to get "Self-Actualization" from something you can do. Like a passion or something you have an affinity toward. One doesn't even have to have actual success to still have a sense of achievement as they go through it.

  • Wow! Nice shirt.

  • Good video Sarah. I've been looking for a concise outline and explanation of Maslow's Hierarchy of needs for sometime now. So I was happy to see this in my subscriptions. I'll be looking forward to the follow up videos!

Are there any other good references you would recomend that succinctly breakdown the hierarchy of needs & what psychological/emotional/physical effects arise when certain needs aren't met. I'm a aspiring filmmaker/screenwriter, so this would be a + personally/professionally

  • Not bad, but maybe try to make the delivery flow better, more conversational. The pauses seemed to make it uncomfortably formal.

    Great job overall

  • @lonerman270 ... I think it's probably environmental, what you learned from watching how he handled stress. The power is in your ability to become aware of your feeling when it occurs, perceive where your stressor is coming from, and understand your ability to look it in the face and CHOOSE to feel the way you WANT to feel about it. It takes a lot of practice, but the more you concentrate on controlling your feeling, the less the bothersome anxiety will occur.

  • @SelfActualizeSarah Are you a psyche expert ?

  • @zeno57 :-)

  • @SelfActualizeSarah I wanted to send u a PM Sarah but I could not.I wanna talk to u.Can I send u a private vid? It will be talking only. One lady thought I was going to send a x rated vid of myself, lol, no way..I dont do porn, lol

  • emmy emmie emmmmie EMMIE

  • Thanks friends for all the positive feedback! This is my first video, and there are more to come! I feel completely validated and grateful for all of your interest in this subject. This stuff has deep meaning and powerful messages for all of us humans.

Subscribe and keep the comments coming, and we'll keep the videos rolling! :-) Actualize Yourself!

  • @SelfActualizeSarah How about a linked series covering, hope, choice, self-advocacy, self-responsibility, support, spirituality/meaning and purpose!

  • @PBrofaith ...Excellent idea ProFaith ;-) would LOVE to! I'll work on that too.

  • I don't know about that. I myself love to be alone. But that's probably because I was treated like shit as kid by the rest of the world, not by my parents mind you.

  • Good information.. I look forward to the next chapter..

My pyramid has lots of holes in the base. The VA has been giving me antidepressants for years.. I need a life not drugs...

  • Thank you.

  • Sadness and depression are two clearly different things..

In sadness, there is at least has hope. When sad, pleasurable things can still hold appeal.

Depression is much different. Depression is not sadness in and of itself, but it can bring on sadness. Depression is a lonely, lonely feeling. Depression is not sadness. Depression is just pure hopelessness.

  • psychetruth is full of good looking women. A very aesthetic approach to information!

  • i like this kind of videos..mind control

  • You're not the Sarah that used to do this series.

  • good one

  • I want to watch more video :)

  • this is a really cool way of looking at it

  • Makes sense and good presentation!!!

  • thanks for teaching!

  • Thank you for this video. Very interesting and useful information when trying to find out why one is unhappy/depressed

  • Enjoyable....also, I feel pleasure watching/listening to her, if I might say. Excellent teacher with your voice is not too fast as my past Professors...

  • @Myhike3 ... Thanks! :-) I am a Teacher, I appreciate that! LOVE this subject!

  • This is seriously ironic, im just learning about this is Psychology.

  • can you make a video on why we want to feel needed? I've tried researching it and you touched lightly on it but not in depth. Thanks(:

  • Good video!

  • GOOD COMMOSENSE PRACTICAL INFORMATION

  • Great and interesting messages in this video ..

  • Comment removed

  • Ye this is all good, but knowing this doesn't really help you in getting what you need.

  • I love you Sarah. Merry me! :)

  • There is a hint of doctor bashing here. Some people will harm others or commit suicide without medication, and they do not have the time or ambition to seek out answers on their own. The best bet is to see a doctor. We cannot pretend that medication is unnecessary in every case.

  • @MrStillmans Have you ever heard the disclaimers on the anti depressant pills? May increase thoughts of suicide (something along those lines)?

  • @noone120000 They first do animal studies then human trials to ensure that the gains outweigh any risk of suicide. We should not focus on the small handful of people drug X harmed while it saved or improved tens of thousands of other lives. Take drug X off the market and thousands more will die than that small handful. What I really wanted to say is that some depression is so bad, or accompanied with other problems as with bipolar disorder, that medication is necessary.

  • Get a playstation 3 then.

  • Don't forget that there are crazy men who bully and intimidate men also as well as abusive antagonistic women--so men can live in a situation where they fear for their lives and security on a regular basis on account of threats by other people of both genders--I don't underestimate the suffering a women goes through on account of a cruel man--

  • I LOVE YOUR CHANNEL. THANK YOU FOR MAKING ME SMARTER.

  • No 'mental illness' has been related to a 'chemical imbalance'. The chemical imbalance theory is a lie that's been spread to support the medical model and treatment with drugs. These drugs are more harmful than helpful.

I do agree with the video that depression is an imbalance in the psyche due to problems with living, stress, trauma etc.

The DSM categories define SYMPTOMS but ignore the causes. For anyone suffering emotional distress do NOT go to a psychiatrist or take psychiatric drugs.

  • Nicely done!

  • Depression should not be treated through allopathic means! Feeding Big Pharma and excusing poor diagnosis (or poor etiology) skill sets has to be attacked within the medical community. Thank you for stating that an anti-depressant does not heal! Another bonus for stating that not all depression is physiological in nature.

Removing oneself is not always a practical, possible choice. There has to be an alternative to this option.

    Technology seems to have

  • @EuphoricImpact provided sterilization to the human exchange. This would have to lead to pathologies that would support depression.

"A man cannot be comfortable without his own approval."~Mark Twain

  • There has to be some kind of crux point with human behavior. There is a serious herd mentality that will scorn or even crucify the truth. Allow me to demonstrate: There is technology for a high efficiency engine. It recycles heat using a method of hot pulsing of steam for power stroke and heat recovery of the spent steam. Sounds logical, even simple and would have been the next improvement on the steam engine of 150 years of use. Status quo people don't even think about it; offering scorn.

  • @hypnofan35 That example you offered is also to do with those with the power and reaping the profits not wanting to lose out on money. The oil and coal companies etc would lose billions. Personally I say that's a good thing. There are technologies that are way more effective, renewable, and less polluting, but those greedy power hungry people at the top suppress these sorts of technologies so they can keep profiting.

  • @Ragnarok187 Perhaps the conspiracy to burn more goes further than simple greed. the way it appears to me is: we are using "heat chucking" technology except for in our homes like gas heat. It seems to define the status quo and resistance to change for efficiency. It's kind of like a sink hole in/on the hiway. No one will lay down the numbers, but we could be wasting by burning by a factor of 10 or thereabouts.

  • @hypnofan35 i'm pretty sure it is difficult to be a person in these times. Here's another "under the radar concept". All planets moons and suns are hollow in a fairly predictable way. You have to work the gravity/mass concept but its a cool conceptual puzzle to work on. Does it have bearing on anything? It could be part of the world and people but not allowable in common knowledge. In some ways people can become seriously conceptually bent in order to belong and hold status.

  • @hypnofan35 i think we are forced to believe and "normalize" some fairly wonkers kind of stuff in the name of relative importance. If we buy into the "wonkers stuff" then it can give us status, but it can mess us up mentally and physically. In a way, we as people enjoy the war more than appreciate the peace. The world is really crazy... don't tell anyone important i said that.

  • Frankly, I`m amazed we`ve all made it this far!!!!!!! lol

  • Is there a warning system against Hedonism? In Shaa Allah there is.

  • @TomMarAlem1987 The security of the body indeed, that is why clothing was invented. Since then people have been trying to expose themselves. Clothing is designed for concealment, yet the ideology is to abandon it.

  • What happened to Jessica? Bring her back!

  • Classical recordings have returned.
