Do you have anymore from this game? I was there that day! I remember it well as it was only the 2nd game I went to in my life. Atlee Hammaker was dominating that day! The Giants were in control the whole game although i cant remember the score.
Only those in the state of Illinois and the entire west coast saw this game because the taped-delayed version of the Wimbledon's women's finals occured. The rest of the nation saw a live women's tennis final and then were sent to watch "An Inside Look" and then games either where Vin Scully or Bob Costas viewed the game.
Couldn't agree anymore. Since I've been following baseball (1983) as a kid the 84' Tigers, and the 98' Yankees were two the most dominant teams I've seen. Poor Padres they picked to win their pennants in 84 and 98.
i can remember visiting my papaw up in camden, arkansas every summer and i most vividly remember him, just like clockwork, at 7pm he would turn off the television and turn on the radio to listen to the st. louis cardinals games with jack buck doing the play-by-play and mike shannon doing the color commentating. GREAT MEMORIES - papaw, i hope you can look down from heaven and see the cardinals playing in the 2011 world series! i miss you! momma and i will see you again REAL SOON!!

Coincidence. Many local announcers have backup jobs with the networks. Although I will grant you it is interesting to have the 2 men who BOTH work for the same local team covering a game of their local team's biggest rival.
Interesting that NBC would use a couple of Cardinals announcers (Jay Randolph and Mike Shannon) to call a game featuring the Cubs. They must've LOVED that in Chicago.
I recall that when NBC had the "Game of the week", they'd have A & B games. The A game to most of the US, the B game to the markets of the teams in the A game . . . and in case of rain delay, they'd go to the B game . . .
