  • ace project keep up the work man

  • Hi, thanks for watching!

Yes, the lacquer I'm using (I think shown in episode 6 or 7) is glossy. I'm not going to apply lacquer to the fingerboard, I don't think that's commom practice, is it? Only going to use wood oil to keep it hydrated and with a natural shine.

Do you have any recommendation for alternative pickguard material? I'm trying to find something to make a custom pg.

    -cheers,

    Marco

  • when you have a rosewood fingerboard you dont apply shine or laquer, just some lemon oil to keep it nice and beatiful

you only apply laquer if its a maple fingerboard

    =)

  • haha now that explains alot....

  • well marco

    they do sell pickguard blanks

but if you're on a budget, you can get a piece of plastic just big enough for a pickguard, or you can make it out of wood

    1/8 inches thick

    =)

  • cool dude

so, you have a non-shine neck?

it doesn't really matter when you drill the holes for the screws

    great project

  • Just realized that the neck needs at least some sealer to have a natural shine and fill small pores. I´ve decided to do that before putting the wood oil or polishing the neck with wax. That would probably lead me to wax-filled pores and a bad look. Now it´s shiny and pretty, except for the back part and headstock... take a look at ep10 - Major Screw up... hahaha
