I've been watching "Not again" live videos for the past 45 minutes.. I especially love how his gain is really low at the beginning of the chorus for this song.. Sounds beautiful. RIP SHAWN!! Huge inspiration is an UNDERSTATEMENT ! Your music is the best!
oops... Of course, you're right.... i answered the question without even properly watching the video.... i'm so used to people asking about the Charvel every time, lol. My bad. :-D
Shawn Lane....saw him live in 89...20 years ago...I basically stop playng because of him...could cover just everyone except Shawn. I think he's truly only guitarist in our time that i can think of (on electric) who had 100% control over the instrument...paganini on guitar!
We live in an era of commercialization.Every thing on this planet needs a bloody advertising campaign or some kind of strategy for success. Everything except Shawn Lanes
music. Its reserved for the people with higher understanding.
If I was somehow offered the choice between a billion dollars, or the ability to play like Lane, I'd choose the latter. I literally don't think that I could get that good even if I practiced 8 hours a day, every day of my life. There was something very different about him, even when compared to other musical geniuses.
The extra edge is genetics. Most people could have 1000 years to practice every day and still never reach his level. The same goes for a sprinter, or any peak of excellence.
Generally smarts and dedication can get you a very long way, but it can't tip you over "great" to legend" with a bit of helps from genetics.
very true, is fingers were just so loose and flexible. hyper mobility i think is what its called, plus a brain that seems to run twice the speed as us mortals.
@Iguana886 what kind of bullshit is that! you love music dont you? especially this music, so reach for your dreams and be amazed! its true that we are all different people and some have features that others dont but everyone has the ability to grow.
Omg.... so much genius and feel makes me cry when see and hear this performance. There's so much love, feel and energy in every note Shawn plays, that I feel it affect me as I am listening to it. I feel unbelievably happy and blessed that I have had a chance to see Shawn perform 3-4 times in Germany. UNBELIEVABLE. I miss him.
Thank you very much for this. There is a shortage of Shawn Lane material available both in video and audio. Perhaps because his genius had not been fully realized and he was taken before his talent truly came to fruition. Thank you!
I think this sounds the most like the studio version. I hate the version on 'Powers of Ten Live'. This one sounds the best of the live ones, and the camera is focused on Shawn's fingers during that legendary outro jam. I'm tired of saying this but THANX all the same.................
That's an Ibanez Ghostrider, the yellow one's the Charvel 750XL.

Shawn is the messi of the guitar world. Everything he does looks so effortless and fluid and easy, yet its unmeasurably difficult.

I don't think there is, has or ever will be a guitarist as gifted as Shawn, so upset I wasn't born young enough to see him :(
robin1000 2 years ago 5
You were born after 2003? You're quite the articulate six year old;)
I know what you mean - his music didnt reach my ears until it was too late. We lost our generation's electric Paganini.
