Rikido really fucked his own life up because of this match. If he wasn't being a douchebag and kept it clean with Kimura, then it would've clearly been a win-win situation. One thing I'm curious about is, why did Kimura even consider to have this match? It's either he was broke as fuck and didn't make much money off Judo to be doing this or he just wanted to be part of the entertainment to gain celebrity fame. Either way, Kimura is the true winner and the legend.
For those who say Kimura sucked, see 2:25 how he entered and held Riki there. Riki was almost helpless when Kimura went into him. Kimura just didn't want to fight back, if he really wanted to, his Judo skills would easily destroy Riki. Kimura once took down a 2m tall 200kg boxer, what's more a 1.75m 125kg Riki?
Its actually very, very sad to see a video featuring the son of Puroresu, where people argue about modern pro wrestling being fake or not. Domo arigato Rikidozan, thank you for making the sport what it is today (of course people like Inoki and Baba were important as well).
2:20 is right where he starts to shoot on him. (Right after Kimura hits him in the balls with a kick.) Once Rikidozan nails him in the head with a knee, Kimura is pretty much out on his feet. Kimura even looks at the referee once Riki starts throwing kesa-giri chops at his head as if to say "Hey! What the fuck?"
Riki already felt threatened by Kimura's popularity and getting kicked in the nuts was the last straw.
@goldencrook thanks for the explanation I know kimura judo is very good but when I saw the video I was surprised to be left just like that stick! but now know what happened. thanks how Rikidozan was killed?
kimura was 5 foot 7 and riza must be 6 foot 1 , whatever provoked the striking is another matter but Kimora was one of the best grapplers going but just goes to show that you can not put muscles on your jaw line and a good right hand cross thrown with intent is gonna hurt
Kimura tried to kick Riki's private place, and because of that Riki was upset and knocked Kimura down. From the beginning, Kimura was no contest to Riki.
Wow I thought the big guy was Kimura. Seems like even if this fight was staged till the end Rikidozan got the best of it. But you can tell Kimura was confused by him striking at full force. But why did they shake hands and act like nothing happened after?
There is no way Oyama beat Kimura in a straight up fight. This is obvious "Big Time" wrestling. I did see on another post that supposedly the plan was for a draw, but Oyama renigged and knock him out with that cheap shot. You can see Kimura trying a little harder at the end like he realized something was up., but it was too late by then.
@rmcswain dude it is not Masutastsu Oyama (korean also like Rikidozan a Korean Japanese) and Masahiko Kimura (Japanese). It is Mitsuhiro Momota better known as Rikidozan who gave up sumo to become a pro- wresstler fighting Masahiko Kimura a judoka, probably one of the best the world has ever created and ever to create. It was suppose to have been a rigged fight for pure entertainment. but Rikidozan got his in end.
i dont get why kimura dosnt fight back at all, he pretty well just takes it,at one point it looks like he instinctivly goes for a takedown but that leads no where and he continues to get clobbered. and its not like it was a quick ko, i mean,he goes down, gets kicked in the face, then stands up, and does nothing. i'm not disputing the legitamacy of the shoot, im confused as to why a legit martial artist refuses to defend himself.
@criticalmadness Obviously you never ever have been in a real bare knuckle no rules fight. you can get hit and be out standing that is why there is a ref, you can be stunted but not totally out and depending on many factors you may not have your wits about you,, get in a real fight with someone good and get stunted and then talk.
you are totally right, ive never been in a real fight. i just found this to be odd is all, he probably was A: confused and B: disoriented. As for getting into a real fight, and then getting stunned, no thanks
just because kimura got knocked out by some big guy wacking him on the side of the head doesn't mean he wasn't great at what he did--which was judo and not some fake publicity stunt wrestling match.
it was a staged fight. they were planing to make it a draw, and then make rematches. however, rikidozan betrayed kimura, knocked him out and never accepted a rematch
How are so many people arguing saying this is real? It was confirmed fake except for the very end where Rikidozan decides to break the plan and knock kimura out with surprise hits for real.
If you don't know, the match was supposed to end in a draw until Rikidozan decided part way through the fight to hit Kimura with a cheap shot, pound on him, and win the fight.
i don't know how retarded you would have to be to believe this. it was supposed to be a work, yeah, but it obviously didn't end that way. why would kimura agree to get bitch-slapped like that?
OK peaple here's the real story.... they did agree to just spar and go to a draw but Kimura was talking a lot of BS before the match and Riki was a very insecure guy, then Kimura messed up and accidentally kicked Riki in the balls (@2:16) so Riki went ape shit and shot on Kimura for real. You can tell Kimura didn't even fight back because he didn't know what was goin on. They kinda touch on this in the movie. A must see by the way.
Yakuza (gangster Katsuji Murata) killed Rikidōzan for the betray, stabbing him inside a night club in Tokyo, which belonged to Bōryokudan Sumiyoshi-ikka.
This fight was not to be serious. According to Kimura, this was just an exhibition fight, to make the sport and these kind of events more popular. They had agreed to draw so they could have rematches afterwards. But Rikidōzan (with greed as mentioned by Kimura) began fighting for real, and Kimura suffered with a series of open hand strikes, punches, and kicks (some of which were to the groin), and won the match by knockout. Kimura never received a rematch with Rikidōzan. Later the Yakuza kill...
The shit bastared cheated, I rould hve shit kicked out of him ... Kimura shaked his hand, i would kick the fuck out of him at the end of match ... not shake hands ... for fucking cheating ...
If it was a no Rule Fight, Mas Oyama would kill him in less than one minute for sure
Slow kick, super slow slap, what a girlish technique, in front of Oyama, that's just a fat kid..
It's obvious that Riki only dare to fight with Kimura, Not Oyama because Riki is so afraid of Mas Oyama..
It's a pity Kimura didn't use his full power, speed and technique.. Riki put so many rules so that Judo won;t be able to use.. What a pinky pig coward.
Just because I don't buy Kimura's story doesn't mean I'm on Rikidozan's side. What I get from this is that Rikidozan was a tremendous, fucking asshole. He treats Kimura like shit the entire match and when Kimura finally improvises some offense, clearly not putting any power behind it, Rikidozan freaks out on him like a goddamned retarded child. Fucking pathetic.
Kimura was almost Killed by Rikidozan. He was beaten bu an illegal blow, as they had previously aggred not to punch or kick. But as I watched it Kimura kick first.
wow that got out of hand. it was obviously more an 'exhibition' match but looks like rikidozan got out of the choreography. those two head kicks to kimura were definitely not fake. looks like kimura wasn't sure what to do once rikidozan got dirty.
@2:27 Kimura tackled Rikidozan, which we often see on today's MMA. And then Rikidozan held the rope and the referee broke the two. I really wish the fight would have continued from that point. Anyway, Kimura was obviously not prepared for striking. Even though Rikidozan broke the deal, Kimura must have noticed that Rikidozan lost his temper and had to defend himself from striking, but he couldn't.
@tokaidosan Kimura was NEVER beaten i think he had just few draws. In book "My Judo" you can read what Kimura said about this match and that Rikidozan hit him with karate chop to neck (where arteries are weak and even high school guy can knock you out). As it is said "No one before, no one after KIMURA!"
I watched this legendary fight for the first time (thanks to ragingbull).
Kimura obviously faked a KO because that was the only way to end the fight.
3 dacades later, Maeda (Korean pro-wrestler) doublecrossed Sayama (Japanese) in a very similar fashion. Sayama claimed receiving a low blow (faked it obviously) and made the referee call DQ.
no man, that is not right.... Besides, kimura beat Helio Gracie.... Helio Gracie is the first guy of Brazilian Jujitsu and he beat so many judokas but Kimura just broke his arm.....
I feel bad for Kimura. If he had managed that takedown-attempt just before the end, the match might have ended differently. Riki really exhibits how japanese pro-wres was born, amazing stuff. Never trust a pro-wrestler.
Lol. The judoka backstabbed first with groin shot. And he told public that Riki betrayed him. Ofcourse the public believed the judoka since he was alive at the time while riki was probably dead due to yakuza stabbing.
Instead of a phony chop to the chest, Rikidozan chopped to the neck, stunning Kimura. Rikidozan, wearing boots, then kicked Kimura's head. Kimura was KOed.
Well it is well documented if you take the time to look. He didn't 'sock him in the jaw' either - he chopped his neck. Which he was supposed to do but not with the force he did.
I have looked into it, and the only person I've seen state that Kimura was neck-chopped was Kimura himself. What you basically have is a bunch of people repeating Kimura's story over-and-over again with little evidence to support it. The video is right here: 2:17 Kimura kicks Rikidozan with a (most likely) unintentional low-blow; he doesn't follow-up on it. 2:18 Rikidozan *punches* Kimura in the face. What follows from that is obviously no longer a work.
@Marumasa I hope you realize that if Kimura used judo skills he would kill Rikidozan, he was just standing up and giving up a fight that is coming to him under rules that have been agreed. You can see this completely true as in Kimura vs Adam Santana ( Who won over Helio Gracie) in Brasil in his first Vale Tudo experience where Kimura had to fight in unknown territory and how he reacts, he just give his best under give circumstances. If anyone fought him in Gi he would be broken for sure.
Tensions were building the entire match. Kimura wasn't allowed to mount much of an offense, and was being bullied for most of the work, becoming more and more reluctant to lock up with Rikidozan. I think at the end he became frustrated and kicked Rikidozan, or maybe that was an agreed upon spot that just went bad -- all we have to go on is Rikidozan's reaction. Rikidozan having lost his temper, started shooting on Kimura and overwhelmed him with his superior size and strength.
Where exactly are you seeing this? What I see is Riki trying to grab Kimura by the head, and Kimura responding with a kick to the midsection. Kimura then lowers his guard and Rikidozan then socks him in the jaw; the rest is history. I kind of doubt that the kick was part of the work, unless someone can cite that as being the case.
kimura is a great judoka, but back then, judoka did not earn much money and his wife was very sick but he couldn't afford the money. So, he decided to abandon his reputation and join Pro wrestling... The match with Rikidozan is supposed to be a set-up and they were supposed to tie... however, Rikidozan got too pissed off during fake match and he actually chopped him which was completely unexpected... So, it's Rikidozan's fault.. I they fought for real, I think Kimura can beat him.
Kimura is a whimp. Look at yoshida today. Judo legend becoming a punching bag in the ring. Yeah, his judo does something but judo is not enough. Not to mention that highly bragged bout in brazil with santana was barely fought to a draw since japanese officials forced Kimura to ignore doctors orders.
Riki didnt do anythiing except wrestle until he got groin kicked. Video is the evidence.
Many in both Korea and Japan look up to Mas Oyama. Mas Oyama is a good fighter. However, many dont realize how underrated Rikidozan is. Kimura tried to earn some money for his wife for her medicine. After the fight, he is in more desperate position than his wife for medical treatment.
Hahahaha. And Hulk Hogan is also sooo underrated huh? What about the Undertaker! wow, these pro wrestlers must be real killers in real life as well huh! haha.
stupid Koreans haven't even figured out that pro wrestling is fake.
Kazushi Sakuraba...possibly one of the best MMA fighters of all time. PRO WRESTLER trained in the same art as Rikidozan...CACC, bukkake boy. I'm guessing a Korean used to bully you and your girlfriends, right? You seem so scared. It's ok, go try and kick one in the nuts, lol...join your friend Kimura, japophile.
So, because a few Judo players go into MMA...they can kick all ass. Yeah, you fell right into that one didn't you, small brain? lol Kimura never punched anyone out, he is the one being shown some stand-up power here, lol.
Just like your putrid mother...too easy. = D
Dog shits? I can post thousands of videos showing Japanese literally EATING shit...seems to be the rage over there, that plus bukkake and pedophilia. Getting 'sucker punched for over 20 seconds? Moron.
Name some base judo players who are champions or legends in MMA? Yeah, thought so. Name one person Kimura knocked out? Yeah... Riki is your daddy, bitch hahaha. At least travel to Japan before you become a full-blown nutcase japophile. =D CACC can specifically handle BJJ and Judo, sweetheart...as Sakuraba exhibited against the famous family your dear Kimura became known for. Do you deny Rikidozan's impact on helping the Japanese come out of their national coma??? Riki > Kimura for Japan.
Some Judo based "players" in MMA? Ok retard. Another Korean Japanese wannabe: Akiyama. Sounds familiar dickhead? haha. Yoshida fought and beat some of the best as well. The best fighter in all of mma has a black belt in Judo. Fedor. You want me to continue? Ok. Nakurama does good in MMA as well. Karo Parisyan ANOTHER ONE.
You bit off more than you could chew huh? LOL. I just schooled your punkass yet again. You need to know what you're talking about before opening that dirty Korean mouth.
Japan hates Rikidozan because he put Kimura to shame. Just as they hate Akiyama today because he put Sakuraba to shame. Akiyama vs Sakuraba's decision was NC and it should be that way since lotion (accidently though) was applied. But the sight of japan's hero being beaten is not a good image, especially if the dude beating the japanese is zainichi korean.
Japan hates Rikidozan because he sucker punched a respectable man to the neck and then kicked him in the face while he was down. This is the kind of piece of shit you people look up to?
Again, even your hero Oyama wanted to murder Rikidozan after he saw this atrocity.
And i'll ask again, if Rikidozan was kicked in the nuts, how come he wasn't in any pain? It's difficult to answer this huh Korean cowards?
I dont care how much of a grappler kimura is. He barely fought to a draw in Vale tudo fight. He defeated Helio with bjj taht was still developing. And in japan, he messed with a wrong opponent. He shooted and got his ass handed over. Not to mention, those fake pro wrestling is a background where some of the most notable champs and fighters even today come out of. One of them is Saku, who came from worked matches of pro wrestling. Kazuyuki Fujita is another example.
Of cource you don't care. You can't handle the fact that the Japanese have a legit legend. Keep trying to discredit him, pathetic moron.
So, you still can't answer this question huh? Why did Rikidozan not show ANY signs of pain after he was kicked in his nuts? It was obviously accidental and didn't even faze him, that's why. Then he proceeded to sucker punch him to the neck and kick him in the face while he was down. THAT is what Korean honor is all about. kicking downed people in the face.
Over all, Kimura just sucks compared to Riki. He paid for what he did (groin kick/starting shoot in worked match). I dont care how much Oyama respected him. Not to mention that Oyama criticized Judo by saying it is not effective. Oyama never lost to a grappler. He himself did judo at young age, so he wouldnt be one dimensional. Lets face the reality. Kimura shooted first, then lost. He whines like a bitch after that and ordered hitman of yakuza to kill Riki.
Overall, Kimura has accomplished more than this bastard could ever dream of. He hasn't even been in a real fight like Kimura, don't talk this pathetic nonsense.
Oyama was a delusional Karate master who had to make money with the hype. Of cource he ripped on all other fighting styles. Still doesnt change the fact that he admired Kimura and wanted to KILL Riki himself after this atrocity.
Again, PROOF THAT KIMURA HAD ANYTHIN TO DO WITH RIKI'S PATHETIC DEATH???
Do you have some kind of impediment? Oyama is just the most respected fighter ever in Japan...he was so delusional that he dreamt the ass kickings he gave to masters from all around. A treachery unforgivable...you still can't comprehend the meaning of that, eh?
The fact that you don't see anything wrong with what Rikidozan did to a legend like Kimura speaks volumes. Your hero Oyama himself was the first person that came to Kimura and asked him to kill Rikidozan(which Kimura said no, which proves he has nothing to do with Riki's death) for what he had done to him, and he never spoke to Riki again. It is typical Korean to defend a guy that sucker punches a man to the neck and kicks him to the face while he is down.
Look how your grammar is getting worse and worse. Rikidozan did more for Japan than Kimura by far. Economists have even given him credit for Japan's resurgence, dumbass. Japanese love Riki more than Koreans. Kimura made that shit up, it's only his words...Oyama never said that he was going to kill Riki. Yeah, kill Rikidozan and get murdered...please.
You're already a joke as I've proven. You claimed Kimura had this piece of shit killed, with no proof. Now you are denying historic events and as always, ZERO proof to back up your claims. Everything I claimed are well known facts.
Just keep respecting an animal that kicks downed people in the face, so maybe you will also end up dieing after you're stabbed with a urine soaked blade.
You said Koreans are coward? Japanese people like Kimura tried to gain unfair advantage by kicking groin. He demonstrated that even the best in japan can be a girl. Today, when people like Akiyama challenged Funaki, Tamura Kiyoshi, etc, they all refused. Oh yeah, the modern day judo legend Yoshida even refused challenge from Akiyama. What a great demonstration of budo mentality. Japan only tried to protect their best by telling lies when ever a zainichi wins over the "best" like Kimura.
What advantage?? DO you realise this is a FAKE match? Do you know what pro wrestling is? Do you know that Kimura had no experience with this and most of the time didnt know what he was doing?
Haha, keep thinking that your hero Rikidozan was some kind of fighter. He was a fake wrestler who cowardly sucker punched a man.

wubai565 2 months ago

2:20 is right where he starts to shoot on him. (Right after Kimura hits him in the balls with a kick.) Once Rikidozan nails him in the head with a knee, Kimura is pretty much out on his feet. Kimura even looks at the referee once Riki starts throwing kesa-giri chops at his head as if to say "Hey! What the fuck?"
Riki already felt threatened by Kimura's popularity and getting kicked in the nuts was the last straw.

@2:27 Kimura tackled Rikidozan, which we often see on today's MMA. And then Rikidozan held the rope and the referee broke the two. I really wish the fight would have continued from that point. Kimura obviously faked a KO because that was the only way to end the fight.

Well it is well documented if you take the time to look. He didn't 'sock him in the jaw' either - he chopped his neck. Which he was supposed to do but not with the force he did.
DeadliftXI 1 year ago
@DeadliftXI
Marumasa 1 year ago
@Marumasa I hope you realize that if Kimura used judo skills he would kill Rikidozan, he was just standing up and giving up a fight that is coming to him under rules that have been agreed. You can see this completely true as in Kimura vs Adam Santana ( Who won over Helio Gracie) in Brasil in his first Vale Tudo experience where Kimura had to fight in unknown territory and how he reacts, he just give his best under give circumstances. If anyone fought him in Gi he would be broken for sure.
nemanjaarsic1 1 year ago
@DeadliftXI
Marumasa 1 year ago

@DeadliftXI
Marumasa 1 year ago
kimura is a great judoka, but back then, judoka did not earn much money and his wife was very sick but he couldn't afford the money. I they fought for real, I think Kimura can beat him.
hanku2002 2 years ago
Kimura is a whimp. Look at yoshida today. Judo legend becoming a punching bag in the ring. Yeah, his judo does something but judo is not enough. Not to mention that highly bragged bout in brazil with santana was barely fought to a draw since japanese officials forced Kimura to ignore doctors orders.
Riki didnt do anythiing except wrestle until he got groin kicked. Video is the evidence.

Japan hates Rikidozan because he put Kimura to shame. Just as they hate Akiyama today because he put Sakuraba to shame. But the sight of japan's hero being beaten is not a good image, especially if the dude beating the japanese is zainichi korean.
MMAfanFORsure 2 years ago
Japan hates Rikidozan because he sucker punched a respectable man to the neck and then kicked him in the face while he was down. This is the kind of piece of shit you people look up to?
Again, even your hero Oyama wanted to murder Rikidozan after he saw this atrocity.
And i'll ask again, if Rikidozan was kicked in the nuts, how come he wasn't in any pain? It's difficult to answer this huh Korean cowards?
VCthaGOATdunker 2 years ago
I dont care how much of a grappler kimura is. He barely fought to a draw in Vale tudo fight. He defeated Helio with bjj taht was still developing. And in japan, he messed with a wrong opponent. He shooted and got his ass handed over. Not to mention, those fake pro wrestling is a background where some of the most notable champs and fighters even today come out of. One of them is Saku, who came from worked matches of pro wrestling. Kazuyuki Fujita is another example.
MMAfanFORsure 2 years ago
Of cource you don't care. You can't handle the fact that the Japanese have a legit legend. Keep trying to discredit him, pathetic moron.
So, you still can't answer this question huh? Why did Rikidozan not show ANY signs of pain after he was kicked in his nuts? It was obviously accidental and didn't even faze him, that's why. Then he proceeded to sucker punch him to the neck and kick him in the face while he was down. THAT is what Korean honor is all about. kicking downed people in the face.
VCthaGOATdunker 2 years ago

@VCthaGOATdunker

Say hello to Katsuji Murata for me :)

Now, i'm still waiting for your answer :)
