That's always been the body I wanted... Not even joking... I believe it was a Hercules or Samson movie or something, I saw when I was young, and I remember thinking, those guys don't have ripped bulging muscles, but they can bench press cars.
Is there any particular reason why when benching, the woman at 3:20 didn't want her lower back to stay in contact with the bench; apart from the fact that it's easier? I've been taught to spot and rectify form resembling this, when I was doing a course for becoming a Fitness Instructor; but does form matter in power-lifting?
@JustElijah She is the 2010 AAPF IL State, AAPF National and AWPC World Bench Press champion and holds the drug-free AWPC World RAW Record Bench of 187LBS at a bdw of only 136. The arch is to shorten the distance of the bench stroke. She is also a cert trainer. Form in powerlifting is very different than fitness training, so you are correct. Two very, very different worlds. She does not teacher her clients this form unless they are going to compete. Ever onward. Monster Garage Gym.
hey im wanting to start powerlifting and i really dont know what to do at my age(14). Also i dont think there is any gyms with people who have powerlifting experience
@BulletspongeM3 Start with the basic movements. Stay RAW as you want to build yourself a strong foundation based on your actual power. Powerlifting USA is a good mag that has beginner articles. Nothing fancy yet for you, just a solid basic routine would be my suggestion. Much luck. Monster Garage Gym.
@MPTPowerlifting thank you very much Monster Garage Gym, what i think is kinda ironic is not even a hour ago i got 175 lbs for my max on bench press, it may be small amount but as long as i am progressing im happy, also do you know where i can get a subscription for the Powerlifting USA mag? And again thank you
@MPTPowerlifting I'd like to start training powerlifting. My records are: bench 90 kg, squat: around 90 kg, and deadlift 150 kg. Isn't it too late for me to start ? Can i still improve my strength ? I am 28.
@jebacjutube we have guys that started with us in their late 30's and added hundreds of LBS to their totals. It is never too late to start. Go for it!!!!!
@Necromni powerlifting is the greatest sport, you are going to love it. Look into some powerlifting books for basic techniques, and find a powerlifting friendly gym like the Monster Garage Gym and get with some knowledgeable people. Good luck and enjoy!
@22complexity arching the back is legal as long as your rear stays in contact with the bench. The greater the arch, the less distance the bar has to travel to reach your chest. We, as well as most competitive lifters, work to the our shoulder blades tight in back, drive with our legs and get as big of an arc as possible. Hope that answer helps. Ever onward.
@calcetosocko When someone asks how much you lifted for a given weight, you do include the bar in the answer. Thus in your example, 244, if the bar is 44LBS would be correct.
@MPTPowerlifting hopefully u know the answer to this...lifting heavier weights for low reps like this...helps you go up in strength and bench and squat more correct? and doing more reps with lower weight will build muscle growth not exactly power or improve strength as much. yes? or no ?
@dgarver1992 there are other factors involved as well, but generally speaking, to develop power, fewer and more explosive reps will increase the power movements.
@MPTPowerlifting Really? i thought fast twitch muscle fibers are all about power and speed..and to train those while lifting weights you gotta lift weight heavy weights for like 1 - 5 reps. or so... ive been researching this stuff for awhile and thats what ive come to find out.. do you know much? any tips i can take from you? im sure you hav knowledge to offer. about how to get bigger muscle mass and or power from how many reps..rep range basically. plz aND thanks!!
@dgarver1992 we do pretty much the Westside method. Buy the book, it is awesome. It is called the Westside Method Book. Max effort day then dynamic day (speed) for what you are talking about. If you are a new lifter, stick with the basics to build a foundation first as the book illustrates that their method is for more of the elite totaled lifter. Good luck and thanks for checking out our videos. We have another just about in the can.
@MPTPowerlifting Hi I just started doing powerlifting I'm doing a 5x5 for 4 different exercises a day, a four day split, chest monday, back tuesday, jiu-jitsu wednesday, shoulders thursday, legs friday, jiu-jitsu saturday and jiu-jitsu sunday. I'm going to do 4 weeks of the routine then take 1 week off since it would be 12 weeks straight working out. How long should I do powerlifting before buying the book? And how much weight do you think I'll gain since I don't want to go over 205 lb or ....
@subatomicparticlephy I would say buy the book now and educate yourself. You don't have to do the things in the book until you are ready. As far as weight gain, that is tough to say as some guys are quick gainers, some are not. Depends on how many calories you take in, what you eat, how much sleep you get. Lots of variables, plus, I am not familiar with jiu-jitsu training but my guess is that will burn a lot of calories as well. Sorry to be so vague, but those are all variables.
@MPTPowerlifting else over 205 i will be in ultra-heavyweight facing guys wearing 265 lbs. Right now I'm 5'10 188 lbs. And I was just wondering if you could give me 4 exercises for back for functional strength.
@thekylegarcia that is "nose tork" aka ammonia, aka smelling salts. Same stuff doctors use for someone who passes out. Legal in all federations that I am aware of. You see guys "sniff" it prior to NFL kick offs, and MMA guys use it too. It is used in the powerlifting community at meets and during training sessions when the weight is 90-100% of the persons max. However, not all lifters like it. It is sort of like getting cold water spashed on your face, but multiply that times 1,000.
@thekylegarcia it is definitely not for everyone. If you are going to try it, take a teeny tiny passing wiff first. If you try to "smell it" like you would a flower, or a cooking spice, well, it will knock your head clean off. Less is more with nose tork until you get used to it. Also, never try something new a meet unless you have done it in training. Work with the tork only on your biggest sets, IF, you need that something extra. Just my advice as someone who has competed for over 20yrs.
@MPTPowerlifting thanks alot i'm appreciating this! i did abit of research myself but have a few more quick questions if thats alright, first the sorta standard bottle size how many "sniffs" can you get from that before the potency becomes worthless, if your replacing the cap as fast as possible. I'm thinking of taking it just to help me increase my 1.R.M once a month to go with my '531 wendler' program, i think it would be pretty suitable for that? btw HAPPY NEW YEAR! xD
@thekylegarcia I would go with the ammonia amps. They are more consistent in potency. The bottle when it is new is great, but it fades over time even with the bottle closed tightly. Amps stay fresh for years. As far as one rep max, that is a good plan. More than a couple ammonia amps during a heavy workout is a lot. Today was our max effort squat/dead and I used two ammonia amps. Good luck and Happy New Year.
@KestDZ Song one is One Day Remains by Alter Bridge. Second song is also Alter Bridge and that is Find the Real. The album is One Day Remains. Great positive message in the songs and awesome to train too.
