  • haha dudes a trip

  • i bought an 86 CJ-7 for 4 grand and the whole damn thing is basically bondo and under that bondo is rust eating my jeep away...i have to buy a whole new body which is gunna run me up for about 4 grand...wth

  • @bubbagumpshrimp14 The magnet tricks work good for finding excessive bondo. But when buying rides, if I see Bondo, I take off $500. If I see more than 1 foot of rust, I take off $1000. If not, I clean up the area, use rust destroyer primer after the patches go in. It's deffinately cheaper than an entire skin.

  • the paper is simulating if there where paint there so if the magnet stick that means it will stick when theres paint there? am i right?

  • @Bombardie8 Yes. It's an old school trick to see if there is body damage, and they used extensive bondo. After about 1/4" the magnet doesn't stick as hard. When I look at rides, I carry a magnet, in a cloth, to test panels.

  • @danbethel thats a great idea.. although if i were to look at a truck with bondo on it somwhere... and couldnt tell that its there i probably wouldnt care too much.. i cant stand when you see a nice truck or car online and it says theres nothing wrong with it, but when you go halfway across the state to look at it.. the whole damn body has bondo spots.. and its not good bondo jobs... but like they grabbed a ladle full of bundo and just smacked it on there.. if you know what i mean lol

  • @Bombardie8 Joe and I call that, "Turd Polishing"

  • @danbethel lol. thats a perfect term!

  • crackage is bad!!

  • I wish all instruction videos were this funny lol. Keeps my attention better than boring monotone instructional videos.

  • @Ryker624 thanks dude.

  • have you been sniffing too much acetone?

  • @JayClarkTheShark You must be new, no acetone in this shop dude.

  • @danbethel

what is acetone old school or soemthing now? what do you use?

  • @JayClarkTheShark Being that I use oil based paints, Mineral Spirits are what is needed.

  • Thank You

  • could you tell me what is the red thing you used to add when you mix the bondo?

  • It's a bondo applicator. They are a plastic flexible card to help smooth on the bondo. I do make my own out of sheet metal, easier to clean, and in the long run, saves you money.

  • The only red thing I saw, was the aluminum plate I was mixing it on. It had some red paint on it from a previous project.

  • @000DQ000 the red stuff he mixed in was like a hardener for the bondo. When mixed it allows the bondo to harden

  • @000DQ000 its liquid hardener

  • Have you ever tried the Evercoat line of fillers?

  • @2texas5born4 No problem, that's what these are here for.

  • Dan, Thanks for you video! I just bought a 69 Bronco and have been doing some minor bondo work.... After I bondo and sand smooth then I prime it I can still see the little quarter size sections that I layed the bondo on. It feels smooth as a babies butt. Is this normal? Will my main primer and paint job cover this up? Keep up the videos!! I NEED THEM...:-) tks bro.

  • It happens to me to, its because our eyes lie to us. You can use graphite and powder over it to see the high points, I just use cheap spray paint, Just keep up the sanding until it's 100% flush, or were you are happy with it. The only color that hides it is white, and why I use it, lol!

  • tks bro... keep up the great videos!

  • @danbethel Hey I'm trying to fill up some rust holes in my zuki sammy 87, would you recommend Bondo jelly to fill up the rust holes ? the rust is the size of a quarter to sum to about a fist

  • I would recommend it on the small ones, but oly if you clean the rust out, front, and back, or it will bubble back out. On the bigger ones, like the fist size, I do recommend welding in a new patch piece. Just tack weld it in alternating possitions. Check Project Chevy for patch pannel work.

  • hear that?

    crackedge is badd!!!

    dont do it!

  • Out of all the How-To-Bondo videos on youtube that I have watched, yours has to be the most helpful. And entertaining.

  • Nice vid... thanks!

  • Fixing a dent in my motorcycle's fuel tank, this video made life a helluva lot easier for a bondo first timer! Thanks!

  • anytime

  • Are you all right up there? lol nice pickup

  • you demeanor reminds me of that other youtube video " worlds fastest clapper"

  • i didnt say anything bout mud pies just the bondo products are shit

  • You are right, you didn't say anything, but talked smack. Millions of gallons of Bondo products are sold every year, and end up on thousands of rides. So do us a favor, and shut your stupid fucking mouth dipshit.

  • bondo products are the best you dumb dick

  • your and jackass who uses bondo products that stuff is crap

  • Better than using mud pies fuckbag!

  • Hey i am 15 and workin on my first car right now and as you can guess it NEEDS work. its a 81 trans am and i am doing some body work on it and i need to get rid of the paint thats on there. I mean all the paint because its not salvagable. I dont have an air compresser so i cant use any air sanders but do you think a regular electric sander would do the job or would a palm sander be better? i dont know but any help would be nice

  • Some of those old Trans Am's were done in Fiberglass, and some stayed metal. If it is metal, I would reccomend using and angle grinder, with a large wrap(big braids)wire wheel, just hold on and watch the paint fly off. If it is fiberglass, a palmsander would be better, with a heavy grit like 80 to help make it faster, just be careful when you close to the body, as 80 grit will leave scars in the metal, just change to a lighter grit, and you'll have it in the bag dude.

  • i found a sanding wheel for my grinder and its working very well the paint is just flying off and leaving the metal perfect and smoth. I have another question though. when blocking what paint stuff do i use? is there a special kind? And when i bondo the car should i lay some primer down first? i am guessing yes but i rather have another opinion before i screw up the car. thanks

  • Once the metal is exposed, any kind of water or oil from your skin, can and will cause rust. So a primer would help stave that off. Epoxy primer is a good sealer, but expensive. Bondo Ultimate can go over painted surfaces. Just sand after every layer of paint, use like a 300-400 paper, and try to keep every layer smooth, as this will effect the finish coat. The smoother you get it, the better the longevity of the paint, and that deep mirror shine.

  • well i have the first bodo you showed in the video, the regular bondo body filler would that work over the primer? Should i even block the car? ad by sanding each coat do u mean wet sanding? Thanks and sorry for asking so many questions

  • Regular Bondo, the red crap, usually is better to use on the metal surface. Summit Racing Magazine, will send you a free magazine, and they have better deals on filler products than the local parts stores. But Bondo Ultimate, a way better filler, they often call it PLASTIC, but it ok for metal, or painted surfaces. You can wet sand, but only if the paint is totally dry, but yes, lightly sand over every paint coat, and it will be bitchin' dude.

  • (PART 2 of below)Bondo Ultimate will save you time in application and in sanding. One thing you want to keep in mind, is making sure you stay to the same type of paint. I use oil based everything. If you go outside oil based, you get into the accetone based. If you use one, then the other, there is a high probablity the paint will snake skin out, from the differences in the base of the paint. I like oil based, easy to mix, better for the metal, and about 1/3 the cost.

  • hahah my 16 ima working on my second project 1970 volkswagen bug a electric sander are not the goood but if want to remove all da paint to sheet metal then yeh just remove the gloss paint because primer wont stick to it dont remove all the paint its to much work just the remove the gloss paint so the primer can stick

  • Cracked is bad!, this guy should have his own TV show...

  • Thank ya', thank ya' very much

  • you can use a spot putty to cover in the little pinholes and your applicator is badass i like to use the plastic ones though

  • Man this is really helpful, but i have two holes missing. So i juss put enuff to fill the hole. Like u did.

  • cool vid !!!!

  • Hey Dan....I guess you guys have "Filler Primer" in the US.(if not its like a high build yellow primer) ...i find its better for pin spots and the final layers before paint. its finer than bondo and makes for less sanding...but im sure you know that...

How long has Sam been in the build...time to start it aint it..lol..

  • Yes we know about the filler, here we call it sandable primer. The problem is that if air gets behind the primer from the void, it causes the paint to blow out, and help promote more rusting.Project Sam has been almost 3 years in the making, mainly due to the amount of fabrication. I plan to start Sam when all the saftey gear is hooked up, like breaks to name one. Starting a 300+ horse power ride with no breaks is retarded.

  • i reacon thats a good idea

  • i love your show you guys should make more episodes

  • We would like to, but we really don't have the budget for more shows. Maybe you should write powerblock tv and recommend they give us a show.
