  • Yeah black belt means very little in Japan. I think many get first dan (black belt basically) at or before high school. You are close to being master at eight dan but that takes years and years.

  • if I were thrown down by you, I will scream out " Happy new year! and I'm sorry that I have yet watching videos you made in last year!".

  • Nice Iriminage Old Dude :D

  • you're a black belt?

  • @SuperMarioBrothers09 The black belt means very little to proper Martial Arts. In North America, it seems people think you are an "expert" once you get to Black Belt. But most Martial Arts that do use a belt system have several levels of black - as many as ten that I know of - and it takes way longer to get from one level of black to the next than it does to traverse the coloured belts. That being said, he's wearing one isn't he?

  • Thank you for being very gentle with the Japanese man.

  • oh man. i used to do aikido. this brings back so many memories.

  • Great video, thumbs up.

  • Your pretty agile for an old man!

  • The first part almost looked like dancing.

  • Nice vid!

  • I saw this in germany too! <3

There was a event from a popular japanese-sports-school

    It was really interesting <333333

aww wanna go to such an event again :3

  • i like how the teacher was holding a mic and tossing you around at the same time xP

  • Akido, the art of letting yourself get tossed.....

  • Aikkido and Steven Seagal are always associated with each other in my brain..

  • The guy with the blonde hair was a beast.

  • I do Kendo and this makes me want to do Aikido

  • Pretty sure these kinds of techniques wouldnt work in real life. Most of the time it looks like the attack is just being allowed to be thrown around.

  • i dont get it...whats the point of this martial arts because its like they have the start of an attack, the person does a half heart move whilst the attacker then flips or throws themselves so they can be restrained

  • @JeremyScottThompson no, its not like that, it just looks like it. i live in germany and i did an aikido class for half a year. it really just looks like it, but you can hit them really hard and they use the force of the attack and soften it and give back the force and you cant do a thing but dancing around the guy who owns you hard.

  • @JeremyScottThompson well, in addition to other considerations, if you're going to study this, you have to learn both "sides" of these moves. you don't want to find yourself being attacked and be unfamiliar with how the "throw" feels and, consequently, how to recover from it. i mean, do you think a single move is the end of the "fight"?

  • kill whitey~!

  • Discipline in the students and the audience as well!! Nice.... is it you in the end of the video?! Good job!!

  • I always enjoy another Japan video :)

BTW, have you done a karuta video?

  • I was hoping you'd upload something like this :D Aikido is my favorite martial art

  • was tht u? very nice dude

  • Highly trained students in this video. Some of the impacts sound pretty painful but I'm sure the training taught them the proper way to fall without hurting themselves too much.

  • had always thought you might have something to do with a martial art, going by former vids, so good to see. good demo of various stages.

  • Nice break falls sir!

  • Nice video!

  • Srsly ur the coolest guy I have ever seen! Thanks again for another 5/5 vid, much appreciated. :3

  • Nani? oO

    Whas that the JPC guy?

  • Thos is great! I didn't expect to see you there, Kudos!

  • I don't know if I should take this or Judo??

    >.<

I would love to learn both in the end :)

I love absorbing/ learning martial arts like this.

  • SHIOTA GOUZOU

  • Right on! Always happy to see fellow aikidoka. What kyu are you?

  • 仮にも、彼らは女の子と手を繋いだことになるわけだ・・・

  • @takahirokoyachi あんた何言ってんだ

  • Thanks for adding this one!

  • Too martial artsy fartsy for me.

  • Hmmm. I thought Aikido was about using your opponent's momentum to throw him across the room and out the window. This looks more like classical jiu jitsu.

  • this is awesome!, love when you appear being owned lol =), just kidding, thank you for sharing this awesome moment!

  • I think I have learned enough now to take down my 85 yr old neighbor that picks on me when I walk by her house. Thank you japan channel!

  • this is so cool i see you hahahah wow that old man is strong.

  • But what if your assailant is the one with the microphone? LOL!

Seriously, from what I've heard about Japanese mats, you don't want to hit them any harder than anyone did here. Think vinyl covered concrete....

  • i am not sure what is going on here so i choose not to criticize it.

  • Awesome video! We're you just participating or have you been doing Aikido for a while?

  • Can you do a video on the very old board game called Go, or it might be called Igo in Japan.

  • Would not want to mug the guy in the middle of the night at: 2:23........

    Guy haz skillz.... 0.0

  • I love you so much lol

  • I'm sure I could learn a lot from thier teachings, however, to spend the years required to understand it all is impractical. I find learning from ideals just causes problems when faced with reality. It's fine for kids but as an adult I can't say I'm inclined to take part in Aikido.

  • @TheLifePerfect

Or you could use those ideals and apply them to reality - adjusting and responding as needed. Gee, that sounds familiar...

  • Haha, nice irimi nage at 2:07 ! Did the sensei keep picking on you from 2:37 because you're a nice tall foreigner to demonstrate technique effectiveness? :) Or are you senpai?

  • @utubesqueeze No, it's because they go lighter on you if you happen to kill a gaijin by mistake.

  • I guess I didn't realize you were this involved in the practice of Aikido.. very awesome to see you demonstrating techniques. Thank you for posting!

  • :D I love aikido! I trained it for one year.

  • Haha look at that foreigner getting tossed around in Japan.

    Japan owns!

  • @LasVegasStripT Hahaha! I'm pretty sure "that foreigner" is our beloved "TheJapanChannelDcom-guy". ;)

  • I thought I would have seen Van Damme destroy Segul. A little disappointed...

  • Doumo arigatou!

  • Hm, that's not my kind of sport - not even to watch. Glad, others enjoy it, but I personally don't seem to "get it". ^_^

To me, all those moves look vaguely the same and I don't quiet see the point of it. Probably, because I know too little about it - is there a goal of some sort?

It just doesn't get me excited to watch.

But I have that "problem" with a lot of sports and know that others don't get, how I am so into watching soccer, although to me of course, that holds a lot of fascínation...

  • @Jemima1377

The basic idea (physically) is to be able to defend oneself without relying on strength or force; you fit in with your opponents momentum and use it against them (they push, you pull; they pull, you push as very simplistic examples). The principles apply to many martial arts and to situations completely unrelated to a physical confrontation.

  • @ejbalshan What level do you have to be before you get to throw people out the window?

  • @Jemima1377 In a strong wind storm the strong unyeilding oak tree may crack and fall but the willow tree will bend with the wind and remain standing when the storm is over.

Reflect like a mirror, respond like and echo.

  • Very interesting but some things look pretty painful.

  • This is way too elegant to be just fighting. It’s more like dancing (^.^)/

  • @mMeFlora hahaha, you're right. It's a passive martial art. Akido uses the energy from the hits to counter. That's why they look like dancing.

  • @mMeFlora

yeah ^^; though i know nothing about this xD

  • @mMeFlora I think that's why it's called a martial "art" : )

  • Great vid, I especially like your cameo appearance ^^

  • Yay for the OldDude practicing Aikido! \ ^o^ /

  • Looks awesome. I wonder what it would look like if it were used in an emergency like if someone attacked you.

  • ive actually done karate, i really didnt like it, aikido is much better XD

  • Great video, as always! I am curious, with the style/organization of AIKIDO demonstrated in this video, is it typical not to KIAI on strikes, or was that just for this demonstration? Thank you for the video!

    -dave

  • Good times when I was practicing Aikido ! Thanks for great videos :) Loving Japan ! Country of my dreams ;D

  • Very impressive, so elegant and full of grace.

  • no shit, that guy in the end looks like you! it´s you right? it must be!

  • Some of those falls look and sound hurtful. Nice video.

  • Is it the aikikai or some other organisation, like yoshinkan and such?

  • Thanks for putting this up -- this is an excellent aikido demo you've captured.

  • Cool !

  • @suiton629

Yes.. quietly watching, absorbing and appreciating does not appeal to everyone..

    ...

The videos you requested are already on the martial arts playlist.

  • @TheJapanChannelDcom I do must say though this isn't an art that is appreciated as much as it should be!

  • This is cool :D

    I love aikido!

I live near Tsubaki Grand Shrine of America and it's crazy, the teacher there has been teaching over 40 years! One of the top ten in the world or something?

  • @suiton629 I think it would be better if the participants shrieked at each other.

  • @suiton629 It's no awkward, it's art...

  • i saw RYU !!!

  • hey guuuuyyyysssssss!!!!!!

  • nice demonstration ... studied aikido for about fours years...its a lovely and graceful art ^^

  • good demostracion, thanks for sharing.

  • Great video as always. My work colleague will be glad to see video.

  • kill whitey

  • @mikezx2 No, actually, Aikido is as close to nonviolent as you get in martial arts.

  • which style is that? I do yuishinkai it looked similar to it

  • Cool

  • Doing this in front of my small class is enough, i couldnt imagine an arena

  • i done this before when i was younger, who woulda taught people so peaceful could kick so much butt ?

  • Great video, can't wait for more. :)

  • WOW. I am impressed.

  • a real japanese dojo, with a audience.

  • That is a lovely dojo by the way.. so spacious and well kept. Thank you for another great video.

  • yeesssss, I love Aikido, it's been my favorite martial art, not just for it's practice, but it's peaceful philosophies... especially for kids, their Ukemi is pretty good n__n

  • i studied hombu aikido when i was in high school

  • I think that was definitely him... Cool Video, keep up the great work!

  • Was that you at 2:07? ^^

  • @Artemisth

    It's not just me then.

Well, I don't mean that it's me on the video. I just thought the guy looked like him. Whomever him is that is.

  • @Artemisth LOL, I think it WAS! :)

  • I'm an older person and not in terribly good shape. This style almost looks like something I could do. I took Karate years ago and got as far as orange belt. Was halfway to the green when we moved too far from the dojo to really be able to attend all the classes. :( I don't think I could do that now, my knees...

  • @SpookMrsSpooky There are plenty of old folks where I train. I think you will be just fine :)

  • @Artemisth And at the end again. ^^

  • @Artemisth

looked it was him, cant miss him hahah.

  • @Artemisth i think it is!!!!!!!! wow :)

  • Something new :0

  • Was that you at the end? Nice form.
