can't create a gp5 for you... but not a real hard one to figure out after the first 2 chords which are somewhat different. 31xxxx 01xxxx then 33xxxx in between the 2 chords after the intro.
Hmmmm.....at 1m21s dave's hat.... Isn't John Paul Jones' symbol? and Isn't he working with John P. in Them Crooked Vultures with Josh Homme? Coincidences Anyone?
The first song from the dave grohl's demos was writed and played with Nirvana. He says what the other bands members helps to him to make up the songs. Guess who is the voice of the chorus ...
I'm sure somebody may have already commented on this, but the riff from this sounds a lot like All My Life. Great that he would use his classic material for his later stuff.
And this is awesome, i could easily see Nirvana or the Foo Fighters recording this.
Pocketwatch *was* released, years ago on Simple Machines Records as a cassette. "Late" was the name of the "band" Dave chose for the album.
The album went out of print in the late 90s. Jenny Toomey of Simple Machines, unable to keep up with orders and with her cassette copy deteriorating, asked Dave if she could rerelease it on CD. His answer was no, and so the album went out of print.
I think art of the charm of Pocketwatch is that Dave's vocals are so under developped and self conscious. Re-recording them as Foo's would completely change the dynamic of alot of the songs. I love the foos but I dont think everyhting Dave does needs to be about a band.
thats right, and i'm sure that dave thinks the same, if this stuff is recorded again, no matter how good they do it, it will never be that's the greatness of Pocketwatch, the songs are awesome, and is so hard to find it... Only the true fans of foo fighters know about pocketwatch, and if this stuff is re-recorded it will lost that greatness.....
On Pocketwatch " I listen to it - even now at this point of definite saturation - I still have to think it's a great record. It has depth and vulnerability and crunch that you don't find on the Foo Fighters record"
With the master tape now degenerated beyond repair, Pocketwatch has gone out of print forever. However there has been talks about remastering onto CD. Eventually Grohl decided that it wasn't faithful to the original ethos behind the collection.
agreed...dave seemed to be very self-conscious up until his mega success with the foo. and also agreed that insecurity is what makes it a good tune. i think foos' debut effort speaks the same way imho
Man I wish Foo Fighters would take some of these songs and re-record them. The sound quality really hurts the songs and some of them would probably be among my favorite Foo songs if they re-recorded them.
i think what everyone is forgetting is that the Foo are getting older and maybe don't want to scream all the time..or rock hard all the time..i love their acoustic stuff, i think it actually shows alot more talent from them, GO FOO!!!!!
Any real fan of Dave Grohl can see that if he created his OWN music and not have the input of ANYONE else, things would have been wayyy different and a lot more spunk in the music.

Fucking awesome... Dave should have been writing Nirvana's songs, not some over-rated junkie... Very dark, yet kind of uplifting... such a shame that it took so long for this talent to be revealed... they should do a major release of the Pocketwatch tape, or at least stick it on a second disc of, I dunno, a 15th anniversary edition of the 1st Foos album?
have you heard any recent foo fighters lately? dave's OLD stuff is clearly good, but of late he has taken a uh... different (in my opinion COMMERCIAL) direction with the foo fighters. he doesn't even play songs from the debut foo fighters album anymore so i doubt he'd want to release this.
I know he's taken a different direction. I suspect having been to the Led Zep gig on Monday a week back, the next Foos album will be a bit more metal... mind you, even if it's fairly radio-friendly, you can't pretend that The Pretender isn't a fucking good song... nor Let It Die. Admittedly, I'd love to hear Foos songs sounding like this, too.
if they really did go back to their metal/punk roots that would be good, more to my taste and more similar to their older stuff.. oh and i don't really like the pretender, but i don't like most of the stuff i hear on the radio (since the year 2000), the 90s were great though
However, as for your assertion re the first Foos record, This Is A Call has been a live staple like, forever, and Wattershed has recently been resurrected...
i guess i was going by his interviews and youtube comments where i've read that he doesn't play the old stuff.. but at least he plays this is a call.. now if he would play the others i would get off my soapbox :D
Like I said, Wattershed has made a return... I think quite a bit of that record gets played! I think he may also have brought back Big Me, which got retired after he got sick of being pelted with Mentos whenever he played it (watch the BM vid and you'll see what I mean).

with the dave grohl 'late' does the late stand for some kind of alias or is it just coz its his later stuff?
anyway i think pocketwatch should be released. the music is crazy cool.

"Late!" was his alias. He always wanted to have band named "Late" to say on the concert "Hello, we are Late!".

It pops up on ebay now and then. Be warned, though, that any CD copies are bootlegs, and there are a ton of them.
