They take a lot of the things started by the first 2 movies and expand on it. The mythology gets deeper, serious questions are asked, some are answered. It's an amazing story which is much richer than any 2 hour movie could produce.

@The1979Warriors WELL I think they explained that all very well. The Judgement day changed because of what they did in T2 destroying Miles Davis's work. So it was an alternate timeline. And they jump ahead with the time machine so the cancer that kills Sarah hasn't run it's chorus yet. And in T1 they were fighting too much and had so little time for Kyle's family to come up. We don't know that he didn't have a brother. Obviously he had a mom and dad, but he didn't discuss them either.
