the position is in A major, but it sounds like G...is that guitar tuned down of one tone

the reason he plays it in a major is because A minor is phrygian when its played with E as the root note, E phrygian, harmonice is A harmonic minor thats what gives it that neo classical feel... if it where in G he would be tuned down to D, which he clearly is not.
