@teresah1966 first off if you read the book the main character Jacob is against what they are doing to the animals, especially the elephant. second the movie isnt promoting the use of animals for entertainment. there are already hundreds of circuses and other things that were not caused by this movie nor will it begin because of the movie. this movie and book has a hugely deeper meaning. and lastly i love animals and would never participate or support animal cruelty

Fine you release that elephant back into the wild and watch it die in days. The elephant in this film is rescued from the wild and is taken very well care of. Yes in the movie the elephant is portrayed as abused but you need to think before you preach or you just sound stupid. Honestly it's people like you that give animal rights activists a bad name because you are so ignorant

@Batmanfan1993 Elephants used by the company Have Trunk Will Travel, which provides the rides at the Santa Ana Zoo, were wild-caught in Southeast Asia where baby elephants are routinely separated from their frantic mothers and beaten until their spirits are broken. Companies like Have Trunk Will Travel train these elephants using ropes, bullhooks (tools resembling a fireplace poker), and electric prods.

@Batmanfan1993 In addition to my last reply USA has the best elephant sanctuary in the world just search youtube for "elephantsanctuarytn" no tricks, chains, bullhooks, real rescued elephants, rescued from circuses and zoos , no they aren't for rent for rides , tricks and movies. I know you think i'm "ignorant" so please check out their videos and visit circuses.com Also I forgot to mention they even rent out their elephants for weddings just search nicole richie.

Alright good googling, but you didn't make your point. The author of water for elephants explicitly said in an interview that the animals in the film were rescued and born in captivity and no harm would come to them. One of the reasons she wrote the book was to give perspective on these poor circus animals. So no, the actors in this film have done nothing wrong by being part of it. I don't know where you got your information but I heard it from the authors mouth
