  • Thank you for this video This video has taught me how to train my buckskin point into something big. <3 All of your videos are teaching me and her both to trust. Thank you.

  • i subscribd to your videos, im also trainig a young rescued horse and my techniques are similar to yours, your doing a great job with those gorgeous horses

  • i defiantly agree with ur training techniques

    u have a beautiful horse

  • wow you're amazing and such a pretty horse :)

  • thats actually soo amaizing!! :)

    soo inspirational:D

i wanna break a horse in now and have a bond with the horse like u do:) truly amaizing:) <3

  • How long did it take you from starting with the tarp to being able to put it on his head like that? Is it mainly the trust you have gained prior to doing this? Im getting a new 6 y/o TB mare and don't want to have the typical “spooky” jumper she has been broke but has been in a pasture for 18 months maturing her legs. Do you have any suggestions of other “desensitizing” execises for her? She's not terribly spooky but she is a TB lol you know how that goes.

  • ok thank you!!:)

  • hi i was wondering what clothes should i wear to go to my lessons i am a new b and was wondering a lot of stuff like what should i wear and what types of shoes?? thank you and your horses are beautiful!!:)

  • @emilyann333 It depends if your doing English or Western... A helmet is the number 1 most important thing you need (an actual horse riding helmet, a bike helmet is no good) If you are riding western jeans, cowboy boots (from a thrift store?) any kind of shirt (the shirt really doesn't matter as long as it is not baggy or an opened hoodie) and gloves if its cold. With the boots you need a 2cm heel (english or western). If you are doing English the clothes are a little bit more advanced.......

  • @emilyann333 2* ...with jodhpurs, high boots or short boots with half chaps. Riding gear can get really pricey so try and look for package deals or second hand clothes if your family is worried about money. I ride English but for the first month I got away with wearing Western gear until I was able to afford English. If you are really unsure make sure to ask your lesson teacher. Horseback riding is really fun so enjoy it!!! :D

  • Did you longe with the saddle or anything before you got on for the first time besides the round pen work?

  • You make it look so easy !!! Love it (:

  • If you use parrelli as a horse guide, I suggest you stop.

  • @cornflakefilms101 Excuse don't mean to argue but parelli is a natural way of healing and helping horses and regaining confidence,it works every time. But if you watch she uses her own training and help, not following one.

  • At 2.14 till 2.23; Is this how you learn your horse to go backwards with a sign ?

  • i think this is your most moving video. dee really trusts you

  • what does chasing the horse do? does it like make them listen or something? :)

  • you truly do turn horses into something beautiful. Everything you do is right !

  • Dee is a very nervous horse :L compared to Satin (: they are both gorgeous x

  • I love watching your videos (: What you do to your horses is pure amazing (: Are you from Australia ? x

  • You're a great rider! I'm about to do my first breaker and you've given me loads of confidence.

  • You did an incredible job with her! I'm truly impressed ! (:

  • I just watched your vedio with Satin and I wnt to thank you so much this has really helped me alot. When I get my new horse i the spring I will follow your tequnics and i wil be ready! Thanks alot!

  • How did you get Dee to follow you of her own accord. This is really cool and I want to learn more about how to do this.

  • ps: I'm guessing a beautiful jumper now? lol

  • Love doing join up it's soo much fun, great job!

  • i love this vid well all of yours but i have a question how exactly do you start and long did this one take..?

  • how long did it take for you to break her?

  • are some of your techniques based off of Monty Roberts Join up? I think she is a very smart mare! responded very nicely on the ground!

  • ground work seemed pretty good. riding would be better if you didnt use a bit and a little bid of a looser/softer rein.. you seemed tense

  • @PenguinPownage There's nothing wrong with using a bit? Especially a snaffle like Tegan is using in the video. She IS riding with quite a loose rein... there was no pressure on Dee's mouth. Tegan looks lovely, relaxed, and flexable to me, she's a fantastic rider.

  • All you seen on the end was her but, especially when she rolled over, LOL :D

  • hiyyyaaa :) this film was amazing and inspired me to back my horse the same way, im not sure about his confidence for he is really skitty but its my dream to ride him , i was wondering if you could sort of teach me the tecniques you used to back your horse , how long did it take for you to be able to ride him ???

    thanks

    xxSaddleBabexx

  • This is seriously the one of the best video's I've ever seen. And I've seen a lot of video's! Omg this is amazing :) And Dee is so pretty :) Continue like that. I'm sure you'll get far with it! :)

  • Your horse is beautiful! you are a really good trainer! one thing is when you were having the ropes on her when she was first scared, sometimes it's good to get them to follow, by leading them and sort of letting it fly in the air. Then they can see it behind the protection of you, and they realize it's not so scary:) that's just what I've found. Keep up the great work, you're amazing! :)

  • i have 1 question how did u learn how to break a horse i love your style <3

  • that is so amaizing realy your so calm and paitont with him

    ( sorry for my english)

  • wauw! this is a m a z i n g !

  • This video was amazing, you two look great working together. I miss doing all the groundwork with my mare so much... ;,( keep up the good work(:

  • I'm just wondering, during the groundwork part how long did that take you to get your horse used to the tarps and stuff? Was this over a couple weeks or one day? I'm new to this and I find it really fascinating! thanks!

  • @mjshorty101 depends on the horse,

  • She is absolutely beautiful :) I loved watching this video of you working with her, great job!

  • When you first got on her I couldn't stop smiling like a lunatic! Gorgeous video! It's very smart how you gained trust!

  • Nice training program. I've reschooled many off trackers to be event horses and never did the 'natural horsemanship" in such a progressive, sensible manner. Admittedly your horse here, was saddle broke, but your trust gaining technique was well thought out, tender and yet firm thus applied wonderfully. Good luck with all your endeavors! -Dot

  • I love your groundwork if I had a horse with a bad background that is exactly how I would handle it!

  • @simsfan1705horses Hi :) I know i'm not tegan but I figured I could reply anyways to you since I know most of these answers myself. 1. Lunge rope or perhaps just an extra long cotton lead rope. 2. I'm figuring that's just a tarp? 3. This is called join up. You can do research on this method. -Hope this helps ^^

  • Hi Bhunkshine, I have bought and purchased my frist horse since having my own when I was seven who I didn't get to have for too long before my family had to move. Ever since then I have always desired to teach, learn and have/create a relationship like you show here called something like true or natural horsemanship. I have a welsh cob/ gyspy vanner gelding who is one year and he is a speical boy. I hope to create this relationship with him. I love how you show the beginning of this process.

  • that's a beautiful horse!!!

  • this is completely just.... amazing. i have watched at 20 of your videos and i'm NOT done yet. i'm going to try to do this with my horse,Tut, to somewhat improve our relationship. everyone that sees us together says we have a special bond that they've never seen before between a horse and 13 year old girl. my mom has an excersize ball and i have a tarp and obriously a lead rope. you are amazing <3 :-)

  • I just brought a 4 year old OTTB mare home two days ago, tomorrow will be day 3, and this video was absolutely inspiring. I was a little panicked after seeing her tear around the paddock today in her first turnout in 5 months, but I love what you did with her groundwork and I'm definitely going to be stealing some of your techniques!

  • @tailoredequestrian Good luck with your mare :)

  • Big like!

  • I miss the Dee videos. :(

  • join up :)

  • i love this video! Great Work!

  • I Love Your Videos, The Way You Train Is Amazing Your Have A Real Gift :)

  • This music is gorgeous, what is it?

  • Why do you do thing thing at the start with dee chasing after her sorry for asking i just want to teach my horse to trust me more. I am not critisizing i just would like some help thanks :) Dee is beutiful

  • I have a question I've been volunteering at a horse farm for about 9 months I've just recently done some training with some of the horses we use them for therapeutic riding for special needs children. There is this one horse in particular that is a bit pushy with just anyone but she seems to be doing better when I work with her. Do you think if I followed the same type of training as you did with Dee do you think it will help her to be a little bit more calm and easy around people?

  • You have done an amazing job !!! she will definatly be a great horse in the future ! all i can say is well done, you are a fine example of a horse women. x

  • you could definitely see her gaining trust with you right there! amazing... AWESOME

  • B E A U T I F U L ! Great job!

  • I have just a little question: Why do you put the rope arround her at 1:45 ??

    great video!! =)

  • Wow, thats amazing!

    Just a quick question...

My new Pony arrives soon, and I want to build up trust with him, any tips on how to do that?

  • that was so flipin cool

  • was this her first time being ridden, ever? just wondering because i have an OTTB who i will start ground training soon. your video is very helpful, thank you for sharing!

  • hey, I'm from Austria so I hope, you understand my english.. :) I love it to watch you working with the horse because the horse always wants to be WITH you and not away from you. It's also very amazing how easy you can win the horse's trust and you never need to use violence.. I hope you know what I mean.. And wat's the name of this beautiful music? =)

    Anna

  • haha i was just reading some Clint Anderson books and then i watched this and u do the same things he said....do u read his books?

  • Your methods are what I preach a live by when I'm working with horses. ( I saw some join up in there that was excellent;) I am going to be getting my own OTTB this spring, and I hope to be putting my horse through the same training that you've demonstrated in this video:)

  • you were doing join up! : )

  • 1 person dosent kno or care bout horses :/

  • who disliked this? it shows amazing horsemanship!! and is getting the horse to trust you!

  • how long did u take you to get her to trust you?

  • What is this song you use?

  • I love how In every video since your first horse you have the same 2 saddle pads, the one in this video or the bluey purple checkered one.

Okay I really feel like a stalker right now! (:

  • You are very talented, extremely! :D

  • i train my friends 2 month old Thoroughbred the same way! except u kno lol i dnt ride her!

  • Comment removed

  • Incredeble.... such a beauty! You've got a wonderful band

  • my friends have a horse named sheena. she used to be a racehorse also she is a purebred Thoroughbred nd we had to gain her trust just like ur doing (:

  • all i can say is wow..

  • where did you learn all this ? It's so interesting :)

  • u r my insperation and im buying a 3 year old gonna use yr tec insted of the 1 i know yrs sems 2 work better

  • i use the Clinton Anderson method with my yearling, which is alot like this. :)

  • Amazing work, we've always liked to make a join-up unfortunately we have to wait for our round pen some months, otherwhise it'll get difficult as we tried already. Nice to see someone doing quite the similar base of horsemanship we're doing, with the backing up ect. - beautiful to watch, and Dee is amazing!

  • hi i have a question... im going to buy a horse and he's like 1 year old...can i teach him how to trust and longe when he's 2or 3 years old or can i start right away..thanks for your advice

  • Comment removed

  • Tegan, I love this video SO much! I would love it if you would post more videos of ground work. That would be amazing. :)

I wanted to ask, how much groundwork do you do on a regular basis?

  • you are the only person that has ever convinced me that "horse whispering" was physically possible. you are so patient and thoughtfull.

congrats on your georous new horse (:

  • My mare, sophie is an arabianxwarmblood, shes only 5 and is scared of absolutley anything.. especially cows, shes bolted, bucked and reared me off because she was scared of the cow.. Simple things like a bird flys away that was on the ground scares her. I have no idea what to do, she trusts me and wouldnt do the things she does for me if she didnt.. Do you recain the tarp thing you where doing with Dee will help her become more confident? xx You do such a great job with Dee! :)

  • thats so awesome. how Dee is start to trust in you. ♥

in a couple of days, our new horse is comming, his name is ascari and

i want to do the same with him. i learned this from a horsetrainer who does natural horsemanship :)

  • The first time through I cried. Your timing and her developing trust are exquisite. The second time I laughed... her ears are like rabbit ears, constantly moving independently picking up all the info she can get whilst keeping one trained on you. Beautiful mare, beautiful process, beautiful trust. Thank you.

  • You are just amazing. Do you think that someone could do the joi up without having a roundpen? All that I have at my house is a pasture and a barn, and I have a 2 year old TB rescue filly that I am I need to train. She is not very trusting and has gone barn sour. She hates her ears being touched. But she is fine out in the pasture, and will follow me around until she gets bored. Is there anything that you would suggest for me?

    Thank you :D

  • I absolutley love this video, and you, and the horse! You are an amazing horse trainer.

Looks like she's already starting to trust you!

    You are inspirational!

  • The fact that she can now trust someone like you is so touching.

She seemed to be screaming for a friend

and you could tell she was trying her best to please. That was great. :)

  • Your beyond amazing. Its as simple as that <3

  • hey, i was wondering if maybe you could message me with some of your groundwork techniques, i am familiar with join up but the horse i have started to ride doesnt trust me very much and i was interested in doing some of your training techniques with him coz they seem to work!

  • amazing! your horse is beautiful, i love her colour. you did some amazing work with her in this video, and she looked great in the "1st time jumping' video you posted. I'll be looking at more of your videos when i get back from riding my own horse. :)

    ♥♥♥ great job sweetie!

  • Hae, I need some advise. Where stay in summer, there is an old lady that owns three horses. She left them to roam on a big hill in a huge paddock. There is a chestnut mare about 6yrs old. She is quite wild and will take food from my hand but will not let me touch her, she gets aggressive when approached. And i can see that her energy and personality is so great, she has so much potential. But I can't get close, it's like she wants attention but doesn't trust anyone. What could i do?

  • Comment removed

  • how long did it take for her to trust you?

this was truley amazing, you could see the connection:)

she's beautiful, your very lucky to have her:) x

  • Just out of interest, what was her racing career like? Why is it she seems so nervous around people at first? My friend has an ex-racehorse who only had "I'm going to race" sort of mind set because that's all he knew what to do. When he was handled like you do with your horses, he didn't know what was going on :\ Do you think that's sort of what's happening with Dee? Thanks :) x

  • That was absolutely amazing!! Dee will be a fabulous prospect. Congrats (:

  • Dee is gorgeous! You are going to do such a good job with her :)

  • You are absolutely amazing with horses.

I think you have a gift.

  • Hi! My horse was trained to have a hard mouth that can keep the reins from helping much. I have also been having problems with making her feel comfortable with being slower. Also, she gets very stiff and it is hard for her to make small turns. I want her to trust that I will not hurt her mouth like others have done in the past. Tips?

  • i noticed your training technique is a bit similar to mine. i'm no expert, of course, but i have a lot of different influences (though i generally find myself identifying it as "loosely parelli-based but not really", haha, because it's easier than explaining that i just do what's natural). i just wondered who your influences were.

also, dee is gorgeous -- you two look great together, as well (:

  • This is absolutely beautiful. I want to do some similar work with a horse I'm working with. I have read about these same technique in a book by Craig Cameron, but actually seeing it done is amazing. The way Dee responds to you is absolutely beautiful.

  • Wow this was beyond amazing! :) You and her worked together so well and she learned to trust you in no time. Did you do all that in just one day??

  • Really, just.. wow.

You are a true horse woman. Well done, you are what we need more of xxx

  • you're awesome..

  • hey what exactly do you do when you 'join up' i want to do it with my horse but not quite ssure how. haha you have done such an amazing job with all your horses, :)

  • amazing how you"ve gotten dee to trust u! i have a training project in the summer with my friends quarter horse.and the mare is so screwed up because shes just been passed on from owner to owner to owner (all of thinking they know everything but dont) and its going to be so hard to gain a good level of trust

  • Spectacular progress as always! I was so excited to watch you bring this mare along.

  • I have a question...

I have really bad confidence levels.. you are the most confident rider/horse-owner I know. I dont have my own horse, and I only ride every 2 weeks, but when something goes wrong with a naughty pony/horse I have a 'mini-breakdown'... do you have any suggestions on how i can get more confident? Amazing vid btw♥

  • I love Dee♥ she's one of the prettiest mares evarrrr ♥ you look so good with her... GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!♥♥♥

  • i have a really big question ..

i always watch your videos and i admire your great relationships with your horses(moonshine, teddy)

but how do you get such a good relationship ,

my pony and i get on really well i trust her very much but do you have anytips to help with our relationship a little with me .

    thanks

by the way dee is gorgeous shes looking wonderful

    good luck!

  • If you don't mind my asking. How much did you pay for her ?

  • This is kind of off topic. My horse Quelle is scared of crossing water. We have this little creek at the end of her paddock that leads to a gate which is a shortcut to the barn to avoid having to walk all the way around. But when I bring her up to it she either 1. refuses to go anywhere near it 2. looks at it briefly than jumps straigt up and over or will refuse to follow me over it completely. HELP!!! Oh and she does the same thing with a metal water grate :(

  • I would love to use your training techniques with my new horse. He's not off the track but very very rude and very very fat! Hahaha, so he takes the east way out of everything. It seems like what you're doing makes a lot of sense and teaches them mannors. Thank you so much :)

  • Bravo

  • Wow, that is amazing. I wonder I should start NH, we have started a little bit :-D

  • Gorgeous horse! It's so amazing watching you work with her. When you put that blanket over her, was that a trust-building technique?

  • Nice :-)

  • c'est magnifique vous avez l'air conplice ; )

  • I love how you can see how unsure she is and yet see how she wants to please you. :) I also love your choice of music, it fits perfectly.

  • I have a question though hopefully you can help me with...my horse is very forward moving and I find myself constantly pulling the reins tighter to try and slow her down. I've tried to communicate with body language and voice to get her to slow her down but it's almost like she in 'work horse mode', especially when jumping. I dont want it to get out of control and I noticed how you can keep Dee steady & under control through light contact with the reins. How do you do that?? I'd love to know! :)

  • @HorseyLuv28

You need to remember your reins are not the things controlling your horses speed, they are for steering. Your body and it's actions are responsible for speed. You need to relax and trust your horse. The softer you are on your horse the softer she will become. What you put into your horse is exactly what will come out, if you keep pulling your reins she'll keep pulling back. I think I'll make a video to teach everyone to help a horse relax and stop rushing

  • @Bhukshine That would be awesome! :)

I'll definatelly try that :) Thanks SO MUCH!!

  • Comment removed

  • You have done AMAZING work with her! You should be so proud! I pray more people teach horses this way rather than the more forceful methods going around now. I train my horses like this but I still learn SO MUCH from your training methods. I'll deffinatelly be trying some of your methods out on a new horse my friend and I are re-breaking. He's already so amazing now!

  • She is so cute! Great job with her so far, Tegan :)

    She's gonna go far.

I love how much she overjumped those ditch things, aha ;)

    Good luck! :D x

  • Wow, Dee is beautiful!!! I love how you work with her, it's exactly the way I start with young horses/problem horses. Great job!!! In which state are you?

    Greetings from California

  • Its so nice to see that your doing so well with your new girlie, she really does have so much prospect for the future! :) Ive been having quite some trouble lately, can you help me? My recent video outlines the habits shes got, but i cant get her to stop fighting and just do what i ask (to work in a proper outline and move true and forward) it would mean the world if you could help me :) xxxx

  • @CrystalEquine

Forget about having her in an 'outline'. People create so much fuss over a pretty pony with it's head down. Give her rein, let her have her full neck, just like Dee is being ridden in this video. Make her use her body lightly, don't bore down on the forehand, keep her balanced and even. She'll learn to come to your hands and accept the bit when it's gentle and not restricting her. I might do a video about this with Teddy, he's the perfect horse to teach people about this.

  • @Bhukshine Thank you :)

  • Cool :-)

  • Teaching my horse to join up was mostly convincing him to leave me alone XD Nice to see a horse that knows how to be a horse! Off the track racers are quite nice to retrain =) Beautiful horse, grey TB are stunning.

  • Does your horse have to be of a younger age to join up with a new owner? I recently got my first horse and she's 14. I've had her a few weeks already but can I still do the joining up process??

  • @undiscovered5066

No, your horse can be of any age! :)

  • @Bhukshine Thanks for replying! :)

So, how do you join up exactly? I've tried to do research, but I've always loved your videos's and despite not knowing you, I think there are alot of horse riders out there that would trust your opinion, and I am definitely one of them :D any instructions?? (maybe a new video?) Don't want to be a fuss, but thank you anyway!

  • i am very happy to see you using join up and techniques of clinton anderson and such, its much better then past ways of training in my opinion and a bond is built much faster through trust luv the video XD

  • This is pretty amazing :D

  • wow, you did brilliant with her. i think you two will be great! shes beautiful. and she seems to trust you.

  • She's looking great, already relaxing into the bridle and joining up nicely. You're doing great with her. Can't wait to see what she looks like in the upcoming weeks.

  • You're an amazing horsewoman, and i adore the music! I totally want it on my ipod..haha:) Gorgeous horse, fantastic video, and amazing work!:)

  • Heyy.,.. i use a very similar method with my horsies :D weldone..she is very pretty!

  • @XxcarismaxX96

Thank you! Also got your profile comment, we're located in Geelong, Victoria :)

  • @Bhukshine awsum! im in QLD :D u hav a nice set up wher u live!

  • You have done an amzing job with her! Its breath taking to watch. WOW, your really good. :)

  • Can you make a full video of your clips from join up with her?? thanks!

  • um.. I dunno much about training but you've done a GREAT work! by the way.. I don't understand the thing that Dee's doing at the last few seconds of the vid xD :P

  • Amazing video! I really love it :D

  • great job! such a level-headed mare! you found yourself another gem with this one! :)

  • This video makes me happy. I can seriously see such a good start for this mare and you will take her very far. She just looks so relaxed when being ridden you can definitely tell she is already gaining trust in you. I admire your persistance.

  • wow what u do is inspirational :) ur giving a horse a whole new life <3

  • Wow , She is amazing , you are so good at breaking in horses and training them ! All the horses you seem to train and break in LOVE you to dEaTh ! You have a great bond with them all your so lucky , BTW Dee is one of the Most Beautiful Horses ive ever seen ,, Good Luck with her ! x [:

  • OMG!!! YOU DID SO WELL WITH HER!!! You could be like a horse whisperer, with all the natural horsemanship and stuff!!! Your like Amy off heartland!!! Wow! You talented person!

  • ooo that thing you did at the beginning, I'm pretty sure I've seen that on a tv show! Isnt where you like "scare" her for abit and then you look her straight in the eye and after that she will follow you around and you have this life time bond? Something like that anyway lol. You've done amazing with her already =D

Whats the music btw? I've heard it somewhere, but for the life of me cant remember what its off!

  • @blueyescry

The 'thing' at the beginning is called join up :) it really helps to create a bond. Dee is so attached to me now haha, I've had her a week and she nickers and whinnys to greet me and she'll get upset if I leave her tied up and she can't see me. She is such a darling, I really do love her :)

The music is the sound track off the movie Blood Diamond. Thank you!

  • This is really admierable - sorry for long comment! And I hope it teaches people that NH (in the right hands as im sure you'll agree) is outstanding! Even if i was a critter (which i am not!) I couldn't really fault you, however I just want to ask (as its the one thing I do slightly different and its not critiscm, just asking to learn other peoples methods) why when she ran away form the rope during what I call The Friendly game did you hold her tight?

  • As I've always learnt from experience and been told that you should give them slack so they realise that they can run away because holding them tight would only make them realise that even when scared, theyre not allowed to run and in a way you're holding them in that scary enviroment - don't worry I have done it before and that's not a get at you at all! Haha as I've already said this is amazing :) please, please, please don't take this as crit! :D xxxx

  • @emaieoghanahally

She's actually just taking fright to the lead rope coming up near her neck, that's how green she is! I don't think it has anything to do with how short I'm holding the lead, you can see that even though I'm holding it short there's no pressure. Thanks for your comments by the way, they are lovely. And also thanks for asking, I don't have an issue with polite comments such as yours :) Thanks

  • This is really unbelievable to watch, I do NH - Parelli and I can see you use pretty much the same techniques however some are different. Watching this makes you realise just how clever the horse is, just how much you understanding their language makes them react. She is absoloutley gorgeous and you have a body language that is literally saying ''i will not hurt you but yipeeee lets have fun'' - your personality with horses cannot change, yours - is incredible!

  • @Bhukshine _You are my idol_ i love the way you treat ur horses!!

  • It's amazing to see you work with her. You have such clarity and theres really no confusion between the two of you. Wish I had a chance to work with a horse like that, she looks absolutely stunning, and super comfortable riding :)
