Anywho..... I was just wanting to know the thesis or statment that u had for the vid? Having come from here I can definatly see how the city can feel like this a lot of the time, almost like an abandond mining town without the legacy of a mine to lean on....
Hey, thanks for the input....I'm glad that this video can still prompt discussion about the city. I guess I made this somewhat out of protest against the purity "I Heart Regina" campaign. It's kind of the devils advocate presentation. Those places also have lots of potential that I feel sometimes they are overlooked. The downtown plan looks exciting and I also look forward to see how that changes things. Thanks for being curious about the video.
I hear you on the "purity" of the campaign..... its a lot like Fiaco's entire run actually..... I am a Human Justice student and have seen the underside of the campaign that manly directs ppl to look at the agredome or taylore field and soemhow mangae to look past their surrounding areas... but ya, THANK YOU for making the video, other than the Prarie Dog you dont really see many ppl here looking at here as a place of discussion
I ask only because the overall fealing of the vid was emptyness, but most of the places shot were occupied at the time the vid was posted and the ones that actually weren't occupied (save cornerstone cafe and nortown bowling both of which are tottal wastes of empty space)are now occupied or will be soon. The downtwon development team from toronto has put some really great motions forward.
NIce video. I am wondering tho, u really made reagia seem like a ghost town.... was this ment to be litteral or a dipiction of ur feelings of the good ol'vag town?
Its been up almost a year & people are just posting now? lol strange... anyway I thought it was insightful that yes Regina is booming but it exposes the underbelly of our city. Dead buildings with no one to fill them. I MISS NORTOWN BOWLING! lol.
Cool video. I love the Riders, maybe not as much as the next guy, but to call them "the heart and soul of this city" is a joke. Give me a fucking break. I completely agree that there's too much emphasis put on the football team relative to the arts and culture. More people should get out and support the local music scene, which is very high quality for such a small city.
What, did you go looking for the ugliest parts you could find? Regina's not the most pleasant place in the world, but it's not as bad as this video would suggest.
I did go looking for the uglier parts of the city. I still think there are lovely places, but when I made that I really wanted to show those places that are totally ignored.
Hmmm i know lets go film random shit and call it art. Fuck you. whats with all the youtube videos showing how shitty Regina is. it is not as bad as it seems. Be less biased next time you asshole. if you really wanna show regina, show the Riders, they are the heart and soul of this city. Were gonna take the Cuo this year baby!! Woo!! Repeat champions!!!
Hey, I'm happy that my little biased art had such an effect on you. I like Regina a lot and sometimes I think the major downfall of our city is the fact that so much more money is put into football that it is in culture. I was showing off those parts of the city because I feel a lot gets neglected for the BIG GAME...or Box store development.
I find it funny that you say that the downfall of the city is that football team takes all the money. In fact if you look at it the football team brings more money into the city than it has ever taken from it. How much money does the local band/artist/film maker/ photographer bring in to the city. Other than the Rolling Stones concert we have never seen as much money come through the city in a single day than for Rider game. And who can we thank for that... Yep the Riders
But...I guess this isn't totally a money issue. I just feel as though it's another big brain drain for the city. I feel like it takes up a lot of peoples mental energy. I wonder, also, where that BIG MONEY actually goes in the city. But, I guess it's for the best. I don't think I want to see most of those people out at other events. Tire them out and call it a day.
Good call on not wanting to see some of those people. I think Taylor Field is the only place some of them can go and not get arrested. I see your point about the brain drain, but you have to remember the Riders even though they sucked for a while, got this province through a lot of tough times. It gave people something positive to talk about. They do more than bring money into the province they helped build this province back up with something to be proud of and talk about.
It's every year in about October. You submit the video and can't edit at all. You see what the video turns out like at the same time as everyone else.
Absolute sh!t

Hmm, this discussion tells me that the only reason I like this video is because I'm not interested in football. Interesting.
