Famous orchestra conductor Arturo Toscanini quote. 3 things I will carry through my life; The glory of a sunset, the splendor of the Grand Canyon, and Eleanor Powell dancing.
To my knowledge this is the only dance scene ever featured in 3 different movies. They paid Ellie an astounding $5000 a week. She saved MGM from bankruptcy twice in the Broadway Melody movies of 1936 and 1938. She did things that were super human. Unfortunately she gos under the radar screen of her well deserved greatness. Her peers though were in total awe of her. The Turner Station had a great program several years ago of the then living dancers talking about her. All agreed she was the best!!
I just discovered, where you get your choreography!
I did not know Mrs. Eleanor Powell (dancer with a Lot of Class / Style, and still smiling! ... Somebody that's hard to find now ...); But seems to have been a great influence on the choreography of Mr. David L.R.
(He copied this Coreography (all, at the End of this Video)
I think Eleanor Powell brought to the movies some of that great leg dancing done in vaudeville that I read about. She's so flexible with her body, has very high kicks, twists, turns - why can't anyone aspire to that today? It must have been something to see that on the stage. She was simply the best tap dancer ever!
In addition to EVERYTHING else EP had going, she was a genius at creating the perfect rhythmic counterpoint to any song she danced to. She's just as amazing and distinctive to "hear" as to watch. I really love what she did with this number.
One of the greatest hoofers of all time - Male or female!!

The studio would build a grandstand when ellie was dancing. All workers got off during her routine. They did not even do that for Fred or Gene.
