@shumble32 If the U.S.A Allied with Poland there wouldnt have been a war? Are you stupid? Hitler wanted to take german territories back whitch they had lost in the great war, U.K and France told Germany if they didnt leave Poland by a certain time they would declare war! If the U.S had been involved they would have been humiliated. British and Americans copied of the Naizs tactics etc etc. It was the nazis who showed Britain and America how to fight modern wars.
"If the U.S had been involved they would have been humiliated" - possibly, but Hitler knew about the great manufacturing capability of the US from Germany's defeat in 1918. He knew he could win long-term.
"It was the nazis who showed Britain and America how to fight modern wars" in some aspects of battlefield doctrine, yes.
But luckily for the German people the nazis may have been good fighters but weren't so good at wining.
@shumble32 There is no doubt if America was in the war from the Start they would have been humiliated, (They were even humiliated when they came into the war, U.S saw there first action 1943 and were humiliated) If America had thousands of troops, tanks in France 1940 they would have been humiliated with the French and British thats fact. France,Britain,Russia,America didnt even know how to fight a modern war they needed to copy the nazis tactics.
@martynrobin121 - why do you dismiss the deterrent effect of America's early commitment to the cause? America repeatedly stated that it wasn't going to play her part in the fight against tyranny - are you really saying you don't think that influenced Hitler's decision to go to war? Remember that in WW1 the mere threat of America's industrial might caused Germany to risk everything on one last desperate offensive and then collapse into defeat and revolution.
@shumble32 Because while Americas industrial production is great, There military was very poor and they didnt even know how to fight a modern war, The same as the French,Russains and British they were all out of date. It took Britain and Russia and America to take on the Axis Alliance, And none of them could have done it alone. And in WW1 America came in at the end 4years after the war had started, If anything France done the most WW1, and Russia WW2,
@quick57r8 You say "America did the most overall"?...Yes, In The Pacific Islands the U.S did defeat the Jap navy and took the Islands and created Airfields. What about the British,Soviets fighting the Japs in Asia?(Lifeline of japan) Also your correct the Soviets did play the main role in the war in Europe. The war was fought all over the world- Europe,Africa,Mid-east,Asia,Pacific,etc there was many fronts. And overall the Soviets,British played the main roles, And the U.S with there Industry.
@martynrobin121 you mean the six battles with the Japs that you guys lost???? We pushed the japs back to the mainland and out of china! In europe, isnt it weird how you didnt start gaining land until we came over to fight??? the only thing you guys did almost single handedly was keep control of africa! The U.S and Russai did the most during thh war! Trust me I know a lot more about the war than you! my dad is a ww2 historian.
@quick57r8 The British defeated the Japs in Asia, And it was the Soviets who liberated China and pushed the Japs out look into the battle of Manchurio over 1 million jap troops defeated.! And the U.S forces arrived 1942, When the British had the Axis forces on the run in the west and the Soviets in the East. You dont seem to realise the British-Soviet war efforts. And without the British there would have been NO-VICTORY and without the U.S forces Britain-Soviets would have won anyway..THINK1
@martynrobin121 Without US British casualties would have been far higher.
Not too mention conscription the likes of WWI would have been implemented.
The war in the West would have taken slightly longer but the war against Japan would have gone on far longer!
Brits did have access to atomic bomb blueprints and there is no doubt that British & empire forces would have tested it in Australia (which they did in 1952) and dropped it from a Lancaster it was the only plane that could have used it!.
@LordGeorgeRodney Without the U.S, Most of Europe and even France would be occupied by Soviet-Communism. Britain won the war in Africa,Mid-East but operation like D-Day would be impossible due to logistics alone. An invasion of Italy would only be possible but Europe would have fallen to Stalin. Without the European Axis powers, Britain-Soviets together could easy wipe out the Japs in Asia and starve Japan of vital resources, food they would go into Famine and would have to surrender.
@LordGeorgeRodney An Operation like D-Day would have been impossible for the British Empire due to many reasons, The British didnt even have enough landing craft or troops, It took both the Empire & US years to build for an Operation like D-Day. And it could have very easy ended in disaster due to many reasons. Alone the British could be too busy in Italy and the Red Army would have taken Berlin 1945, 46-at the latest. America was needed for D-Day for manpower, resources for successful landing.
sorry mate if not for the americans we would have lost. america supplied us with almost everything aero engines, food libertyships. the americans were and still are our best allie. i thank god for america
@tomato6999 Thats FALSE! It was impossible for the Axis to invade Britain, Defeating the British Empire was just foolish. Britain could have never lost the war, Hitler wanted peace-talks with Britain so that Germany,Italy could withdraw there Forces from W.Europe. At any time during the war, Britain could have accepted talks and saved W.Europe without a fight. America TRADED with Britain for PROFIT! Lendlease 1942, Was to protect American interests,NOT OURS! U.S is not a good Allie, they do shit
@quick57r8 No it seems you don't. The British were taking lands in Africa and the Med Long before the US was taking part. The British contributed the most naval and air assets in the war against Germany BY FAR. AH yes the retaking of the Far East by the Brits must've been one of those losses LOL
@quick57r8 Burma,Caen,Pegasus bridge and el alamein few of many victories the british gained And its cool your dad is a WW2 Historian, Doesn't mean he's correct, So get your Big head out your ass and realise america couldn't of won on there own
British commonwealth & empire forces played the majority role
The only time America overtook was AFTER the battle of Normandy was won & the bulk of the fighting was against the 2nd British army
Ask Model & Runsdedt they both declared that the 2nd British army was more feared than the Americans.. Hence why during Op Cobra there were 190 Germans tanks & a few divisions compared to 700 German tanks & many SS divisions facing the Brits & Canadians.
@quick57r8 The United States army was useful, but you cannot possibly say that the americans played a larger role than britain in ww2. If the americans weren't so selfish to have not joined the league of nations in the first place, a flawed league that was if i might hasten to add an american idea, then perhaps crises like the manchuria and abysinnia disasters would not have happened and hitler wouldntve walked over europe so easily.
It was the Brits who took the vast majority of Germans & Italians prisoner.
75,000 Germans (mainly in Tunis) & 120,000 Italians... maybe more.
With fuel it was no problem the British & Soviets were using the Iranian oil from the Trans Iranian railway.. and much more where that came from in the Middle East..
@LordGeorgeRodney Africa was a British & Empire victory, and Italy was wide open for invasion. Without the U.S the British could invade Italy but Operation like D-Day would be impossible alone. The Allies were only able on Normandy due to the fact 75% of what was left of the Axis forces was fighting the Red Army. Britain alone could have not been able to invade France in time, The Red Army would have won by then. Churchill didnt want Communist enemy on Britain doorstep.
@shumble32 In the Great War if America didnt come into the war, The Allies Britain and France would have won. In World War 2, If America didnt come into the War the British would have in Africa and the Russia in Europe there is no doubt its FACT! However its good America did come into the war otherwise Britain wouldnt of invaded Italy or W.Europe and Russains would have liberated Europe and Communists goverments would take over and Russia would become the new superpower and bigger threat.
@shumble IMHO, Mr. Shumble that to some extent you seem to confuse mere battles (and style of fighting) with war. War is an economic matter. True Hitler and Tojo were just pathetic stupid clowns. But your supemely absolute confidence in your end game predictions of an alternative future seem to forget the economic facts of life completely. @martynrobin121 I've always wondered about that. UK and France declared war on Germany first, so therefore Germany had right to defend itself from another country(s) declaring war on them. I know Hitler was a tyrant but he did not attack them first.
@sleemcleod Hitler invaded Poland whitch was illegal, The British,French made it very clear in the Munick treaty, etc that if Hitler made any more Claims or tried to invade nations they would declare war on Germany. @martynrobin121 British & Canadians could have operated D-Day alone even Morgan said this in his planning.
What's more the landing on Omaha may have gone better just for the simple use of X craft as makers.. amongst many other factors (Hobart's Funnies).
Britain after D-Day would need serious man power.. but that is open to debate & hindsight as to a what if with compulsory conscription...
If there is a a factor of US it was the need for more men after D-Day & Normandy was won..
