Any form of critical thinking will show that the envrio-nazis have taken their argument so far from the original meaning of being environmentally friendly that is has no meaning but suppression at this point
green terrorist. they poisoned a river in the philippines so they could blame the mining company operating near the area but when scientist's tested the sample of water from the river, the chemicals found there are never used by any mining companies.
for example, in brazil, large amounts of rainforest are being knocked down for pasture land for cattle. meanwhile, the land that is exposed is not readily adaptable for pasture land, so it quickly deteriorates, leading to more rainforest destruction. at the same time, the rainforest holds keys to profit for brazil because it is a unique environmental asset, yet to reap this profit would require longer-term enviro-friendly planning as opposed to short term measures.
There are no private property rights in the Amazon rainforests. If there were, you wouldn't see farmers burning up swaths of land. The burning is widespread in the rainforests because without private property rights, there is zero cost for the farmer to get a patch of land on which to put their cattle and crops.
the problem with this video is that it ignores the larger message of environmentalists by focusing on instances where they are being stupid. the larger message is that with ever growing populations and industrialisation, development needs to be sustainable and enviro-conscious
No offense but not all liberals are like this. For example, I am liberal but I believe that we should not interfere in the issues of other countries whether it be an environmental issue or even Iraq. Before we go trying to fix other countries we need to fix ourselves, preserve our own environment, and help our own poor.
By far the best documentary on the subject. I live in the Adirondack Park. After watching the first ten minutes of the film, it was very clear the that the samething is going on here. They don't like people, and growth is bad. Keeping people and towns small and poor, takes away their ways and means of defending themselves.
Watch the entire DVD. And put yourself in Georges shoes. It breaks your heart.
I have been doing some research work on a mining project that enviormentalists are opposing in the Phippines, i have seen no evidence that it would be bad for the area but the NGO's just scaremonger, you can't reason with them. They don't just oppose the Rapu mine but alll minieral development projects without outlining an alternative. The Phillipines could be the richest country in the region if it developed those resources.
Having lived in Ethiopia, the world's poorest country, and Albania, Europe's poorest country, I wholeheartedly agree with the premise of this video. The Natural Resources Defense Council has repeatedly raised millions in donations to stop projects in third world countries. Most of the donations are never used directly for the projects, but instead line the pockets of fat-cat SUV driving lawyers and lobbyists
Thank God someone is exposing these bastards. These Green Groups and Left Wingers are very ignorant, have no common sense and use very cheap tactics to get there way.
from what i've read it seems to be a brilliant film great that someone is showing people that poverty is not a lifestyle choice.
Envirormentalism is really getting out of control here in Europe where governments immediate responce is not to examine enviromentally factors in our life then attempt to improve them but to instead place huge taxes and levys on anything harmfull again hitting the poorest people hardest
Although some anti-enviromental actions do serve to expand the economy of poor nations in the short to mid-term, if profit was consistently placed ahead of the environment in every development project on earth then many people would live to see their nations development stilted by mass flooding. Literally. There are broader considerations to absorb than those of some unfortunate belizian folks.
wow...If you can spin that and get people behind you, then maybe we should really be thinking about thinning the herd, starting with the sheep that think that a mining corporation has EVER brought progress and enviromental responsability to a third world country. if that were the case, Latin America and Africa would be World Powers By now...
This sounds way too much like most neo-con (aka fascist) propaganda for the truly ignorant and easily led non-thinking supporters of long term devastation for short term benefit. True activists are not out to repress any one, just the governments and corporations that exploit the poor when there is always a better way. But those in power never want to give anything up of their own, do they? It's all about greed, and if Green Peace is a Communist front, then call me a Commie!
You're making their point -- part of the film is about a country left desolate by communism, and if there is a chance that this could make things better (it cannot get any worse) then who are we to use the environment as pre-tense to stop this? Some say we should have never been involved in Iraq, isn't it hypocritical to step in on this by the same standards?
The original American environmentalists were Conservative conservationists. Leftists with an anti-business agenda glommed onto the environmentalist movement - corrupting what was sensible with their anti-capitalist crap. Beware of do-gooders .. the 'good' will always be done at the cost of freedom.
Any reasonable person in this world wants everyone to have an opportunity to live an educated, healthy & comfortable lifestyle. I find it distasteful for the filmmakers to take the comments of a few somewhat extremist, and portray this as a global opinion of all environmentally aware individuals. I am not sure what this film is attempting to achieve. The film criticises environmentalists about their influence on poor countries but not once mentions the effect that the WTO has on these countries
I'm a Romanian. Rosia Montana Gold Corp. wants to open a gold mine in the area.
The Corporation wants us to think that the mine would not affect the environment. The activists want to prove the opposite. THIS is the issue to be discussed, not how rich or poor are those people, or how much they want a job or not.
I'm not siding with anyone, as even in my own country the public does not know who's right and who's wrong. But this smells like manipulation.
But what are the priorities here? Providing people with jobs and the chance for a better quality of life, or keeping the environment in its untouched state? Haven't humans always manipulated their environment for their own gain?
For similar themed YouTube films, check out WORLDwrite's films about Ghana such as 'I'm A Subsistence Farmer, Get Me Out Of Here...'
I'm hoping there is more to this movie than "the environmentalists want to preserve this quaint old town". I consider myself an environmentalist but i'm very much a libertarian. I feel it's up to an individual to act on their own if they want to change their world...not force others to follow you through government laws.
Either way, i'll probably check this out once I see some reviews and determine if it is worth my 2 hours.
I saw a screening at Emory, and the movie hits on the real human face of poverty, that these people need jobs, and how many are out of touch with what's "happening on the ground." Still, the movie really hates activists. Kind of light on the cons of mines, but wants to prioritize the need for jobs. Regardless it's a heartfelt address, so go in with an open, critical mind.
Good stuff. I remember while visiting Belize for a month, their were environmentalists from America protesting Belize's highway development. All Belizians that I spoke with couldn't stand them.
I don't like green peace, but I don't like this either. Lots of money in coal, and it is one of our worst environmental disasters contributing to global warming. Global Warming is killing the poor people. Already 30 nations are going hungry, and its not because they can't mine coal, its because their crops, livestock and poultry are dieing because of global warming, coal being a large contributor.
Greenpeace = "environmental fundamentalist". Fanatical fundamentalist are the scourge of this earth. I have always thought that the tree huggers were people who do not work or know what having a job means and have way too much time on their hands.
I don't know if it ever occurred to anyone that economic development doesn't necessarily have to rest in the exploitation of natural resources. I'm not opposed to every mine, but strip mining and mountaintop removal destroy the natural beauty of a place. And how many rich miners do you know?
true but the natives can do whatever they want to there land as they see fit. And if it brings jobs why not? Greenpeace has done the opposite. they claim to be upholding the "lifestyle" of the poor, and that is to BE poor. Greenpeace only represent there interests, not the poor's.
Actually quite a fair few, here in Australia, miners are paid fairly for their labour and even the most basic mining job pays $74000 USD per annum. The new rich they are.
Greenpeace is a communist front, like CNN, the Ford Foundation, the ACLU, the Rainbow Coalition, CBS, US welfare supporters...on and on.
Keep them poor and ignorant.
Keep feeding them just enough to live, keep telling them it's not their fault. Keep devaluing human life by parading a disgusting bitches-n-dope culture before them and slaughtering the children concieved as a result, keep filling their heads with hopelessness...and the poor and ignorant will follow you to the grave.

They do the same thing in Alaska with the NWAR! A bunch of unbathed loonies come from all over to deprive Alaskans from jobs and economic growth and America from oil.
A very thought provoking film! Provides a new and interesting perspective on how environmental movements may be preventing some of the poorest in our world from raising their quality of life. Any of those who have unquestioningly believed that mainstream environmentalism is the "moral way" need to watch this film and think again.
In some cases they are. Modern Environmentalist are in two groups, some are good scientist who god bless them honestly try to balance environmental concerns with the needs of people. They work very hard at being unbiased. Then you get people who understand little about science, the environment and form their opinions based on vague statements from scientists , taking them completely out of context. They would like nothing more to have humanity disappear, after they themselves have passed on.
Wow.This is cool. For the first time I see something from the "other" side. What a bunch of leftist wackos.Good post keep it up. Im going to save this one and add to my groups (whatever groups are)
The film presents an opinion that presents an alternative t the status quo, at least according to the environmentalist movement. Such points of view are the most important thing to be seen when forming an opinion. The dogma of the status quo is usually inescapable.
How arrogant. For someone that probably lives off a trust fund to fly around the world telling people that they shouldn't try to improve their lives is typical liberal know it all. I will definitely see this film
