Wrestlers today should be required to watch these Ric Flair promos so they can see how it's done. No one could cut um like Flair. Flair was to wrestling what Richard Petty was to NASCAR. Hogan was good shoot but lets face it, he was very PC for McMahon and the WWF. The 6-14 year olds watched Hogan and played with their wrestling dolls. When you grew up you wanted to see someone wear the "crimson mask" and "walk that isle" and talk about how many rolexes they had.

Maybe Hogan's name is more instantly recognizeable, and there are reasons for that. Hogan was the champ in the biggest wrestling company in the world for quite some time, while Flair spent several years in the NWA. This is why Flair is the best ever at cutting promos. First, he puts himself over. Then he puts over his opponent, showing them respect. Whether it's Race, Dusty, Magnum TA, Nikita, Billy Jack, Brody, Tully, Arn and Ole (in the Horsemen) or Windham, Sting or Luger, Flair would always give props to his opponent, and it was real. Finally Flair would drop that charisma and humor in there that would have everyone of us hanging on his every word. That's why Flair is the best.

@arlichar11 definitely do not try to copy him.....what made that era of wrestling the best was that the wrestlers made themselves.....I've read that Bruiser Brody would always exit the ring on the opposite side that he had just thrown out his opponent. That way he could walk around the ring and piss off the crowd even more than if he had just jumped out on top of him. Wrestlers' interviews are scripted and a rookie can become world champion.

I have praised Ric Flair's persona and mic skills so many times but lets get specific. This whole counting down of opponents/wrestlers (Dusty Rhodes, Magnum TA, etc,.) has has to be the greatest promo style ever created. Nobody does in todays wrestling and even if they tried, i'm not sure they could put the "style" that Flair into it.

Flair never had an "um" or an "uh" or any hesitation in any of his promos. They were always perfect - even his ad-libbed putdowns of the ringside fans! Flair understood the power of promos like few in the business. And he was generous with putting guys over. If Flair mentions your name, the crowds grow bigger, and you're headlining wrestling cards all over the country. Slick Ric wasn't all about himself. Sometimes it's easy to forget he was a heel most of the time!
