@BalladTimes says: In 1972 in Victoria, Canada, a rookie policeman wrote a poem for his girlfriend while driving home in his police car. Dave "the Cop" Richardson gave the poem to his friend David Foster, a young aspiring young musician looking for material for his new band, SKYLARK. Foster passed it along to Skylark guitarist Doug Edwards who set it to music. It was the first song Edwards had ever composed.
WOW, Larry, that was very emotional. POWERFUL. Thank you so much for playing what I call 'REAL MUSIC'. Believe it or not, in the past few years I kind of gave up on music. I haven't bought a cd in years, never downloaded a song on an ipod and rarely turn on a radio. Todays music, is not music to me. But, your songs have lite a spark in me to listen to the' good ole stuff'. Thank you so much for getting me to believe in music again. LOVE :)
Larry........Incredibly powerful song and performance...You take the weight off so many of my fears doing what you love to do and what everyone comes here to experience.. You need to hear what i will always say and believe from my heart and soul......Your music is heard, felt, and loved......GOD bless you.....ione marie
Larry-I'm going through a very tough time with metastatic breast cancer and your version of this song I love so much really has touched my heart. This is absolutely beautiful. I have requested this song to be played at my life celebration. I just wanted to thank you for touching my life with your music.
Larry.....It doesn't matter whether this makes us smile, cry, or just take in the story and song.....It is what it is...Powerful Music that leaves us so glad we came here.....ione marie
You ARE CRAZY GOOD!!! Seriously, I love how you do these songs. And as a guitarist, I really admire how you play the songs. You really nail them - PERFECTLY!! Thanks a million for taking the time to up these videos on youTube. I hope someday to play these songs like you.
Larry you can really take a beautiful song and make it even more beautiful! Thank you for sharing your talent for our pleasure! God Bless you brother. I am overwhelmed with a flood of emotions everytime I hear you sing this timeless classic!
Larry....I've always liked this song and glad you chose it....From the first time i heard this,. I knew before i even pressed play how damn happy i was going to be with it....You have that way about you to take an already good song and just make it your own......You bring more smiles to my face with music than you will ever know...ione marie
I wish i have a wonderful voice like you that can woderfully sing in an open space as in your video. Your voice is wonderful what more if you made this in a close or a room like other does. Great job, bro.
Well, yeah, Larry, I must ditto all the other positive comments. i came upon your version checking out the various videos for this song. First, did YOU create this guitar arrangement? Wow? where can I get the chords/ I wish your video did not cut off so much of your left hand, I was trying to follow the chord changes! i think it would sound better on a martin or Taylor. ovation is OK but a bit twangy for my taste, sorry. Your vocals are also inspiring. We all love the great Donny Gerrard.
wow ,90% of all these u tube covers are pretty bad, almost like whats the sense, but this one is really good, nice chords great voice & perfectly in tune. No im not randy Jackson!
Lord have mercy, where'd you learn to do that ? You play all athe standards I would like to play but dont know how..... Oh well .... if I watch enough I may pick up the chords ! Nice work !
I keep coming back to this song...it's so beautiful, Larry! This could be an anthem to all women, because every now and then, we all have tough spots in our lives and we always seem to find the strength to get through them. Thank you for doing this song.
The sleep that brings freedom has eluded me tonight...how beautiful, this song mingling with the sound of warm, gentle rain falling outside my window...the perfect way to ease into morning. Thank you.
back for the gazillionth listen. The more I play along, the more I'm impressed with your guitar arrangment! Can't thank you enough for posting this. You know sometimes a post connects with you, and then not as much on the proceeding listens...this isn't one of those! Of course the song being so great helps, but Larry, you did an incredible job on this one. I have your version and the original on my phone.
Never heard this song. I heard new birth and the original by skylark....man your acoustic version KICKS ASS!!! Is there a way you could post that tab.....willing to work a deal with you. I am a fan of yours. Great cover man!
On of my favorite love ballads of all time. I actually have the LP of this song. The first time I heard it (when it became a hit) I had to get the album. The melody, lyrics are just fantastic. You really did the cover justice. This is one I have on my short list to do as a cover. If by chance you have the chords please let me know (I am not much of a guitarist so I am hoping they are not to complicated) 5 stars. Great jon on what I think is an underated tune.
Man Larry, your song slection is absolutely the best I ever heard anybody do. I have tried in 30 yrs of music to get bands to do these covers and no one seemed to waant to put the work in. Hats off to you my friend. I wish I lived in Maine, i would be knockin on your door to put all of the orchestration behind you eveen in your luch hour gigs, hehe.
The Live version of this song by the O'Jays is the best. Very heartfelt rendition. Hey fellas, whenever you want to get pissed at your girl for some petty reason, listen to the words in this song. It'll put everything in perspective and you'll just want to hold her and never let her go.
No matter what youtube done to your account, They cant take down the true legend. There are many Wonderful persons in this planet. Im happy that i had the opportunity to listen to your songs.
Wow very nice. Refreshing to hear the acoustic background to this song. When I opened this I was thinking 'Oh boy, another guy trying to sing this song" but was I pleasantly surprised.
Never let it be said that youth holds all the beauty. Us greylings have beauty within us still and your performance of this song is clear evidence of that. Thank you for being out there and doing it, Larry.
My husband listens to you often and has performed several arrangements of the songs that you sing. Where do you perform? We would love to see you live!! Thanks for your music!
Not many people will say they are sorry so I am very glad you are the kind of man that will...I Love your outdoor songs you look wonderful and relaxed in them...Nice song
What a great vocal performance! This song holds a very special place in my heart...you just settled it there a little deeper. Beautifully done, Larry.
I had your previous piano version fav'ed. Thank you so much for posting this, I've looked far and wide for a guitar arangement of this classic, but never got close. 27 yrs ago I melted a chick in Laconia singing accapella with this one -she's still my wildflower, I still sing it to her on road trips.
Larry, you are a perfect example of chivalry. Saying sorry is a hard thing to do, but you are a true gentleman for saying so. I love your version of this and the summer background of you singing in your patio I presume! Really laid back and low keyed.
you are great Sir Larry...you brought that song back to life...fair play to you & cheers!!!
