@cjcollas Also I don't like the idea of just turning the body as fast as possible to wack the ball. This leads to inconsistent shots. So I have tried to slow it down with tempo in here. I have one of the slowest swings in my club visually. But still measured around 100mph so it still goes a good distance.
I completely agree with the spung drill as you will see any professional golfer load up on the big left toe at the top of their swing (back right heel to front left toe weight transfer). My questions is about the lateral move that must take place to start your downswing. Is it correct to 1. transfer your weight to the spung, 2. make a lateral shift with your hips towards the target, 3. rotate your hips through the ball. This all takes place with the head perfectly still behind the ball.
@davk0613 - Ok I went to range and answered my own question. When I shift my weight into the spung (from inside back right heel to front left big toe) I noticed there is a natural lateral shift that occurs. From my big left toe I then transfer my weight to my back left heel at impact. So the proper sequence is 1. transfer weight to the spung, 2. rotate your hips 3. transfer weight from front left big toe to left heel at impact.
I've found 'thinking about' stepping on the sponge can lead to an odd transition. How do you feel about 'thinking about' turning/kicking your left knee out towards the target which automatically gets your hips turning and paces your transition?
@falldogg I struggled for years with my hips 'squirting out' from under my upper torso at the start of the downswing. My upper torso would fall away from the target, leading to fat shots, or handsy hooks. What helped me was to create more TORSO TORQUE on the backswing (swing the arms/club to turn the shoulders AGAINST the hips). When the hips move to start the downswing, the tensioned torso helps the upper torso to move WITH THE HIPS, with the torso remaining properly 'stacked' through impact.
So then is this more along the lines of a stack and tilt swing? Because I didnt hear anything about transfering your weight to your right side? Thanks love your vids tho.
Hey guys, I have a buddy (retired golf pro) who has been selling a golf training program and doing real well with it. He'll get you under 80 in no time.
Jeff, thanks alot for posting this. I did a search for golf swing sequence and your videos were the only ones that came up. Thank God! Makes perfect sense. I was looking for that part of the swing that occurs between maintaining the angle and the release. Rotation of the body is what creates the bottoming out of the impact. Thank you for making that clearer. I was really stuck there for a while.
Excellent tip-- This was the 'missing link' for my swing. (along with the proper hip rotation). But I went from shooting in the low 100's last season, to shooting in the low 90's my first 2 rounds this season. Obviously I had spent several sessions implementing these tips at the range.
Both are correct. At the start of the downswing the arms ARE mostly passive at first, then at the bottom you increase their speed and release your lag to turn/whip the club through the ball.
@pattyheno I am curious to know what you have found to be your answer two years after you wrote this comment? For me it is arms passive and they just go with the flow of the transition. If my transition is fast and out of wack the ball is going to be thin or shanked etc. If the transition is right its pure plush sweetness.
@cockywatchman1976 maybe you should make stuff up and then people will come from all over the world to pay you $200 an hour. and then you'll have more cash to film squirrels from your mother's basement! or you could simply listen to him and possibly cure your OTT problem?
@pattyheno he's correct. however, even though the body's rotation produces much of the speed in the golf swing, your hands and wrists pack the final punch, allowing the clubhead to travel much faster than the handle thru impact!
I struggle with a lateral move into the left side coupled with a casting in the beginning of my transition. I am definitely going to take this drill to the range for practice.
Hardy leads me to believe that a slight lateral shift is wrong as part of the transition. am i wrong?

@cjcollas after three year I'm pretty much doing this. Passive arms.
I'm single figures handicap although don't practice as much as it should.
I have tried 2 plane swing along the way and there are benefits of both.
Always went back to 1 plane.
I do like Stack and tilt method for ease but I think is very similar to Jeffs transition.
Are you following Hardys 1 plane method ?

very help. I have a question. do you put your weight on your right foot at all when u do the back swing( cuz your shoulder turns?)
weiwei6969 2 years ago
jim hardy seems to say the arms should be passive and the turning of the body provides all the power.
I try and keep my arms/hands passive , but this video says the arms and hands should be hitting.. which is correct.?

I would say you should only consciously hit at the last 6 inches of the downswing

Great tip Jeff. I've found that concerntrating on getting your weight forward on your downswing really helps get the club head square at impact.

the sponge is a good idea, but getting the turn to happen is a harder move. thanks and keep the videos coming.
