She is too old for corporal punishment. The best solution would have been to have taken her computer, and all her electronic equipment, and take it to a safe isolated area. If they knew she downloaded music again and truly had a disability just take away the computer or put restriction on it. There's no need to go that far. It's one thing to spank a child and another to physically, emotionally and verbally abuse a child. Yes spankings were more acceptable "back in the day" but that doesn't make it justified. Beating children into submission is not the right way to get someone to follow directions and that's why most people who are abused also become abusers.

This is not discipline. It is abuse.Aside from the obvious physical abuse, the mental and emotional abuse is inexcusable. Whatever message the father was trying to send, the only one he succeeded in was "You are unloved, unwanted and unworthy." As for the mother? "Take it like a grown woman" makes me think of domestic discipline. Not appropriate. But the way she speaks to the father makes me think of domestic abuse. Mom was probably abused as well as the daughter. Still no excuse!

There are other ways to teach someone right from wrong, beating them with a belt is a physical way of showing power and forcing fear. So, the judge can't be punished according to the law. So, if a child is too afraid to speak to anyone about his situation then if time passes after a few years, then they will be protected by The Law. There should never be a Law of Limitation in any state when a child is a Victim. The only way to change this Law is for the government to hear from the Voice of the People.
