Are these as good as shoulder presses? My chiropractor recommended I not do shoulder presses, but said that front raises are okay. I just don't think they look like you'll get the same results.
The leaner ( non exagerated version) is the best way to do it ... Just cause he's big muscular dont mean the other methods wont work as well ... hes big and muscular cause he eats well its that simple .. as far as the pogo stick form foes ive never seen ppl do that before but oh well
SCOOBY, thanks for the info. I LOVE (and hate) working shoulders. And front and lateral raises are my fovorite burn out moves. I do rest pause sets, starting with 15 to 20. I go really light (just a 10 lb plate in each hand). When I locked my shoulder blades back, I could barely lift the plates for 10 reps. Guess my form was not as good as I thought. Should I lock my shoulder blades back on lateral raises too? It was harder to do, but I didn't get as much of a pump.
Hey everyone, Josh and Daniel here, We'd love it if you guys could come down to our channel and check out some of our workout videos to help you get in shape for the summer and a little extra sketches on the side! Good video, but at 0:35, when you say "if you're having shoulder problems or shoulder pain, please start with this video—it's my video on doing the stabilizing exercises for the shoulder," there is (presumably) supposed to be an annotation with a link to the shoulder stabilization exercises video, but it doesn't appear.
@thelikemonster you are implying any and everybody who has a good physique must be using steroids. It's probably because you think you yourself can not obtain this physique with out the aid of performance enhancers. You are dead wrong; any body can get to this level, it just takes a certain dedication that most people's mental barricades can not allow. the humanbeing is indeed capable of great things. the moment you say you cant say do something is the moment you actually cant do it JACK
i prefer they way jay cutler does them. get a little swing on the way up and focusing on lower your arms slower on the way down. he said it gets the muscle more on the way down anyways
@TheMRamstaff Many clients have that problem its very common, try gripping the dumbbell the same way you would as if you were doing a hammer curl, it should take alot of stress off your rotator cuff.
@scooby1961 Hey Scooby, im not saying i think you are wrong, but that version you called the leaner, that was exactly how Arnold did the front raises (you can find it on youtube). And he went all the way up until his arm was pointing straight up, and he leaned alittlebit forward before each rep. How come?
@Lazyboi69r WHAT!? Arnold is the greatest role model any lifter can have, he started of a skinny boy in a small village in Austria and with dedication, sacrifice, courage and hard work he became a 7x Mr Olympia and the Governor of the eighth largest economy in the world, and your discrediting his work because he used steroids?!? You need to be highly educated on AAS/PH/HGH etc, never disrespect a bodybuilder for using a drug and admitting to it.
thanks. Scooby I screwed up my shoulder realbd from bad form of bench press years ago. it still hurts whatever shoulder exercises I do (even 10 lbs military press...)
I hope you could upload more vids about shoulder injuries. thanks again respect everything you do :)
wtf, i completely missed this video wtf? anyways great as always, front raises cause a weird strain on the lower part of my biceps though which is weird
If you don't mind me asking, how do you see all this bad form if you workout at home? Is it youtube or do you go the gym more than I am assuming you go?
Scooby, i was just wondering if im doing my chest workout wrong. I followed your two exercises for chest Dumbbell Flyes and Dumbbell "Bench" Presses (on the floor), but today my chest isnt sore at all, but my shoulders are. I tried to copy your form exactly, but i'm not feeling it. Am i doing something wrong? Is it normal to not feel sore in the chest? (By the way, i have a very weak chest.)
Scooby, the form you're showing here is different from the form you showed in a vid from years ago. Here's the vid:
watch?v=SizTOJCBs5w
I've been using the form in the vid (from years ago) 'cause front raises with my arms extended feel funny on my elbows. The form on your vid that I linked to is fine too right?

You took me back to what I had forgotten. Form with the right weight = brilliant shape and body. I tried again to do my shoulder workout last night in the garden (again, your influence) and it felt right in all the right places; something I had not felt in a long time. I want to thank you. I wish I had your guidance about 15 years ago; I would have avoided wasted energy, time and injury...
Thanks for another informative video Scooby. I think if you did a book on diet and fitness it would be a best seller as the most genuine book on the market unlike a lot of the junk books I have read on weight training !
I have a question about body-building; should I be lifting lighter weights in more repetitions or heavier weights in fewer repetitions? For instance: at the GYM, I usually lift 20-30 kilograms in chest workouts. I do 3 sets of 12, 10 and 8. However, If I lift 30-40 kilograms, I can only do about 10 repetitions before I feel really tired. Any advice?
I always get enough protein, workout to failure (maybe squats not always for safety reasons) Obsessed by health... and i get own'd hard in arm, back and chest exercises by a person who might not even get enough protein, works his muscles 2, 3 times a week. Even a skinny guy always eating junkfood looked at me strange when i said i could only do like 5, 6 chin ups. What the hell am i doing wrong? (17 years old, 18 sets - delts, chest, lats, 16- legs, 12-abs (daily except Tuesday 5) 15, tric, bic
@lordargos1 he does have abs. you do see them as distinctly in most of his vids because he doesn't sit there flexing the whole time to show them off. type "scooby1961 abs" and in the first vids you can see them much better.
@lordargos1 it's cuz he's sitting down and didn't do a bunch of crunches before the video. Normally people with crazy abs have them because they're starved for competitions, they just did abs, and they are flexing.
Scooby...this is one of my fave videos from you. People have shoulder issues constantly, and now I have a video I can refer them to for a start. GREAT vid.
Creatine exists in your body already. It helps form Adenosine tri-phosphate which is a muscle energy transport. You will gain temporary water weight, but the benefit is looking fuller & varying improvement in muscular endurance. Its no miracle, but it can help reps.
Your body makes it from arginine, methionine, & glycine which are amino acids. Eating more meat can raise plasma creatine. The choice is yours, but avoid it if you have kidney problems. Also drink extra water w/ it.
Scooby, what is your opinion on crossfit training as appose to just issolating the muscle ( bicep curls etc...) for a 16 year old, and also other ages ?
Scooby, you're pretty huge. I was just wondering, you don't seem to throw around crazy heavy weights in your videos. But how did you get so massive without leg pressing like 500 pounds and benching a ton. I like that you are strict with form and diet, but how did you put on so much size? Can you get big only bench pressing 50 pound dumbbells, if you do it for many years? Or do you need to constantly lift heavier and heavier? Cuz at some point you can only lift so much, ya know? THANKS!
@scooby1961 PLEASE SCOOBY, COULD YOU MAKE A VIDEO ABOUT A CORE WORKOUT FOR INTERMEDIATE TO ADVANCED BODYBUILDER. WOULD BE MUCH APPRECIATED. LOVE, YOUR BIGGEST FAN FROM NEWZEALAND.
@scooby1961 Everyone has been born a sinner. Have you ever lied, stolen, hated someone(Jesus said this is murder in his eyes), committed adultery(Jesus said if you look at someone with lust, then you have committed adultery in your heart). If you could say yes to any of these then you are a sinner. The wages of sin is death. But there is good news. Jesus Christ died on the cross for your sins, and if you accept him as your Lord and Savior you will have everlasting life.
@scooby1961 You lift heavy ? Well, i guess i`m not the only one who wants to know how heavy you lift! Post some stats PLEASE ;) And don`t say that you don`t like to show off, it sound like a hypocritical lie ;)
Sure he lifts heavy. Body building is forcing your body to adapt to handle the work you give it. Weight goes up and muscles try their best to handle it through hypertrophy if conditions are proper like nutrition, rest, and genetics.
The 'growth' range is 6-10 reps where the last few should be somewhat difficult. If they are easy move the weight up. Weight amounts are how I set goals besides the look I want. Looking bigger and feeling stronger are the rewards for your hard work.
i used to do a mild form of the pogostick when i frist started workout. sad thing you see in the gym is guys with good sized arms stll doing it, but you cant tell them they're doing it wrong they'll never listen.
Well I've found out that for best form you can just put your back against the wall , in that way you have to try really hard in order to use bad form :D
Hey Scooby, one question if I may. When you workout only with your bodyweight, do you still need to work one muscle group per day? Like when you use weights? Thanks .
Hey Scooby im 15 years old, lean and 63 kilograms and i have been working out for a wile now and i want to start being very strict on my nutrition. i have read on your website that 1600 calories a day in 6 small meals is how much i should consume but im just worried that 1600 calories wont be enough for me because im still growing. What do you think?
I disagree with scooby's form. You do not want to go this slow if your goal is optimal muscle contraction. I prefer a slight "Leaner' form because you really want to focus more on the negative with this exercise and hold the weight at the top for a second. Go to JayCutlerTV and watch how the Mr. O works out. He's numero uno because he deeply understands the mind to muscle relationship.
Hey Scooby, I am 17 years old and pretty obese. I tend to eat unhealthy foods a lot and want to stop. My exercise compromises of daily tennis. I need help losing weight, how can you motivate someone that has tried many many times to lose it, but gives up after the first few days. I NEED YOUR HELP!
Lol i will admit i'm a bit of the Leaner! i never really thought about doing it while sitting(I like doing most of my lifting standing)but i will give it a shot! =) I haven't done these babies in a while(been focused on Front military raises and the regular military press) Thank you Scooby(oh and btw,if you can..can you make a video about how to do proper Hammer curls and V curls?there seems to be some confusion as to how to do it properly,Thank you.)
This is a really helpful video for me. I unfortunately have very little shoulder mass.. Makes me actually look like I have a pear body shape despite having a 30 inch waist.
Plus some of these exercises have helped me while I was in highschool when I had horrible shoulder pain.
lmao........very informative you have a lot of good advice!Problem though to many critics and gym rats believe they are the gurus when in fact they no sweet tweet and in fact are uninformed and do not take well to constructive criticism or advice.Props to you and good work on the tube.Cheers E.
Scooby: What is your opinion on Pre-workouts(Jack3d)....Also, could you explain we do you think Creatine is bad, and what does it do exactly, based on my research, creatine is not bad, i want to know your own personal opinion... i like your point of view...

scooby please make a video about creatine... i am 16 and i am not sure if i should use it in the future.
ThisIsGreece 10 months ago
@ThisIsGreece

ScrappyCoco58 10 months ago
Scooby, you're are the only person I trust for advice on physical and nutritional and I respect you deeply for that.
I hope you read this because I really want to know.
I have just two simply questions,
1. How tall were you when you were 18?
2. At what age did you become a vegetarian?

VeryHardToGet 10 months ago
Scooby, you're pretty huge. I was just wondering, you don't seem to throw around crazy heavy weights in your videos. But how did you get so massive without leg pressing like 500 pounds and benching a ton. I like that you are strict with form and diet, but how did you put on so much size? Can you get big only bench pressing 50 pound dumbbells, if you do it for many years? Or do you need to constantly lift heavier and heavier? Cuz at some point you can only lift so much, ya know? THANKS!
clubsoda69 10 months ago 7
@clubsoda69 I'm here to show people how to do the exercises, not to show off :) I lift heavy, I just rarely do it in videos.

@scooby1961 PLEASE SCOOBY, COULD YOU MAKE A VIDEO ABOUT A CORE WORKOUT FOR INTERMEDIATE TO ADVANCED BODYBUILDER. WOULD BE MUCH APPRECIATED. LOVE, YOUR BIGGEST FAN FROM NEWZEALAND.
officechronic 10 months ago
@scooby1961 Everyone has been born a sinner. Have you ever lied, stolen, hated someone(Jesus said this is murder in his eyes), committed adultery(Jesus said if you look at someone with lust, then you have committed adultery in your heart). If you could say yes to any of these then you are a sinner. The wages of sin is death. But there is good news. Jesus Christ died on the cross for your sins, and if you accept him as your Lord and Savior you will have everlasting life.

thamoslil 10 months ago
@clubsoda69

Hey Scooby, one question if I may. When you workout only with your bodyweight, do you still need to work one muscle group per day? Like when you use weights? Thanks .
andorhalier 10 months ago
Hey Scooby im 15 years old, lean and 63 kilograms and i have been working out for a wile now and i want to start being very strict on my nutrition. i have read on your website that 1600 calories a day in 6 small meals is how much i should consume but im just worried that 1600 calories wont be enough for me because im still growing. What do you think?

I really enjoy these viseos and I have to ask you 1 quetion if you dont mind answering.
Is it over training if you do cardio daily with a pack or vest that adds more weight to the body? Is it even healthy to do so?

Hey Scooby, did you ever find out what your shoulder inflammation was caused by?
Orion8888 10 months ago
I disagree with scooby's form. You do not want to go this slow if your goal is optimal muscle contraction. I prefer a slight "Leaner' form because you really want to focus more on the negative with this exercise and hold the weight at the top for a second. Go to JayCutlerTV and watch how the Mr. O works out. He's numero uno because he deeply understands the mind to muscle relationship.

This is a really helpful video for me. I unfortunately have very little shoulder mass.. Makes me actually look like I have a pear body shape despite having a 30 inch waist.
Plus some of these exercises have helped me while I was in highschool when I had horrible shoulder pain.
