Again, I didn't post this for people to say how bad the playing is... It was just a reminder of where I started off sophomore year of high school. That oboe player is either phenomenally better now or has stopped playing altogether.
I would like to apologize to the students and the families of these students. I didn't want you to seem that i was a jerk. I know how hard it is to play this song. I just want to say to this high school, you did a good job. A few problems but every band has that problem, and again i'm very sorry for the put downs.
Their tone quality at times in the song is really bad. The attacks and releases suck. During the transition around 4:29 it sucked. Im not a band teacher, but only a student. You need to practice on pitch, and attacks. My band of 35 is playing the same exact song and we sound better than you. you just need to work on those two area and you will have an amazing band.
Yeah, this is a 5 year old video, and you're not helping by yelling at a bunch of underclassmen which are now graduated and doing well in college. This was the lower band in my high school, and you should really learn some manners (we know we weren't excellent. Check out my video of symphonic movement, same band a year later
This was our second band. By my senior year(06-07), this group was playing the 2nd Suite in F and did one heck of a job with it. Heck some band directors thought that our 3rd period band was our top ensemble at festival in 07. The Loara 4th period band continues to produce college leveled music and has accomplished being invited to play at Carnegie Hall, and receives Unanimous Superior's at festival and regionals. If only I knew how to post my dvd's up.
i don't get why people are STILL complaining about this performance when it was played about 4 years ago. past is past.
i'm from loara, and 3rd period actually did this piece last year. we redeemed ourselves from this performance if that makes anyone feel better. 3rd period band is WAY bigger now and has french horns.
Considering this is the lower band, and our high school includes 9th grade, that doesn't bother me. I'm in college now and know that even though this particular ensemble wasn't great, my senior year we were the best in California... You should watch Symphonic Movement from my junior year... its also in my videos
@1337evan: WHAT horns? THERE WERE NO HORNS! (I'm a horn player btw) You cannot play this piece without horns. It's an insult to try to. NO NO NO BIIIIG NO NO. I was in seventh grade when I played this. And my band got a 1. And my friend (also in seventh grade) played the amazing french horn that SOME OTHER INSTRUMENT PLAYED and got a solo award for it. Sorry, people, but I am really offended that this was played without horns. It wasn't even played WELL.
im playing this for marching band, but ofcourse its alot different from the original, i guess its shorter. the clarinets sounded really bad, and over all it sounded out of tune but good job anyways.
I agree they were totally out of tune. I play the clarinet myself and we played this (cobined HS and MS) and it went reallly well and hearing this piece again here compared to how i first heard it... well its just sad. They could do so much better.
I think it sounds good considering the size of the band.. Clarinets are a bit squeeky, though. I didnt like the flute solo. it lacked emotion..the tuba solo was good! OVERALL good job!
Does anyone think that the slower part was way too fast & that the oboe was considerably well for a high school oboe considering how difficult the intstrument is to play.
im sorry but this had so many problems i lost count. frst off french horns COMPLETLY rushed the quarter notes on the measure after E. also it was very out of tune. Oboe solo could have been better but its a hard instrument to play so im not guna say anything about that. plus u guys are like completly leaving out the cresendos and decresendos. OH and also the french horns are horribly out of tune. the last thing ill put up here is that the timpani's g was completly outa tune
I thought it was pretty decent. Yes there were tuning issues and some balance problems throughout. Oboe needs work and trumpet needs to be cleaner in the break down.
Personally, I think the song sounds better a little faster then how you guys played it. I'll upload a video of a band im in played it soon.
Overall, great performance on a challenging piece!
there'es a chime part int he beggining :(( so sad to see it left out cuz i played it for our band lol and bells? come on u guys have no melodic percussion players?
BAD TUNING OBOE! on your solo too.. too loud. need to blend in . color the wall dont splat the paint.
