I once read on wikipedia and in several blogs (if you type "Yatahaze" on google you will find them) that "yatahaze" is based on the apachian word "yata-hey", meaning 'today is a good day to die'.

this album is based on a story written by the band (although i think mostly by gavin). the character goes on a psychedelic spiritual quest for a "pure soul." towards the end, the main character comes across a gnarly looking tree called the yatahaze, he eats the fruit, than sleeps for 90hrs....beyond that, i don't know what yatahaze means. there's nothing on the internet about it except this song. they may have made the word up.
