And then people wonder why so much violence, why so much hatred, animosity, wretchedness. . . the answer to all society's ills lies within the mainstream media. . . it's called programming for a reason.
Violence sells for a reason. You'd be better served to ask yourself what that reason might be. These are not root causes, they are elements of a feedback loop.
As far as the beginning montage goes, it's fake violence... it's entertainment. If you can't differentiate that from the real thing, you're a moron. As for all of the fear tactics used in the media, that's nothing new, that's how it works in America.
They want to keep you fearful and obedient conformist consumers to keep the economy going, make the rich richer, and back up their empirical politics. The only way to get real news about the US is to watch other countries' news like the BBC.
"As far as the beginning montage goes, it's fake violence... it's entertainment. If you can't differentiate that from the real thing, you're a moron. "
you just didnt get the point of this (great) documentary, it IS about the continous representation of violence, fake or not doesent matter-. It goes so far that "people like you" ;) see/accept "fake violence" as "entertainment". These concepts adding up, manifest and appear in the real world. This IS the "mean world syndrome".
@aerobique Yeah, it is entertainment and instead of this fear-inducing bullshit, people should learn to take personal responsibility for themselves. Young parents today DON'T parent their kids. They buy them violent movies and games without even seeing what it's about then they're the same douche bags that complain to the companies for their "horrid and evil products" because it traumatized lil Timmy. It said Rated M, dick! It's a free trade market, take responsibility for your shitty parenting.
@aerobique That's what this really comes down to. Shitty parents who don't properly teach their kids what's real and what's fake, or don't get them psyche evaluations to make sure they don't have a screw loose. The kids that commit violent acts, regardless if they watched Rambo or not, have genetic mental disorders and/or horrible upbringings and should have been given therapy and medication a long time ago. Hell, even break it down for them how the special effects guys made it all happen.
Exactly but it is to late to pull back the media from this subversive attack. The only way is to sue all the film makers for this filtration of violent suggestion.
There is no doubt that violence that is portrayed on any form of media, whether, television, videogames, internet downloads, etc promotes a sense of anxiety for everyone and moreso for sensitive and awake people. Sadly, most of the youth culture disagrees with this and they are the perpetrators of this myth. One has to ask then, who are their handlers and why do they cling to the notion that violence is not furthered by their exposure.
I agree with nubbs, this video isn't about meaness but about violence. I agree that perhaps television is partly to blame for people being afraid but what this video highlighted for me was that it causes prejudice which causes people to be mean - perhaps that's what they should focus on.
they seem to be conflating violence with meanness, when i think meanness in the media is a very real and very growing problem, but nonetheless a separate problem.
when i look at news pundits (cable and network), popular reality shows, comedy shows, and professional sports, it seems meanness has become the new norm.
and by "mean world" i mean vindictive, cruel, mocking, lack of empathy. it's like the media culture is indistinguishable from high school culture
ps you completely missed the point of the "mean syndrome" hypothesis. a proper synonym for mean would not be "indurate" (how's that for language, sonny boy) -- the quite seperate point i was making, and which you clearly also did not understand -- but "dangerous".
the media creates the impression of a "dangerous world". that is the mean syndrome hypothesis. my separate hypothesis concerns people like you, who are just rude and uncivil.
If violence against truth is lying; then the nature of the status quo is violence against truth with the pretense of being truth's protector by means of violence. The status quo is essentially on bias and therefore against truth or integration of knowledge. This is why the status quo has a god and doctrine that only accepts common knowledge as truth. They wouldn't like me saying that, i might be imprisoned or killed, but everybody believes "the common knowledge".
And then people wonder why so much violence, why so much hatred, animosity, wretchedness. . . the answer to all society's ills lies within the mainstream media. . . it's called programming for a reason.

squirmingsquirming..
it is not about shitty parenting, not about the (btw amoral..) free market, personal responsibility or other issues to point the finger at
it is about an obvious social syndrome and it's root causes

@nubbs Lemme teach you a little bit about language, mkay?
violence is a subset of meanness.
You can't be violent without being mean, but you can be mean without being violent.
Violence counts as meanness. But they don't claim that violence encompasses all meanness.
duh.

i'm sorry, was your response supposed to be an ironical attempt at being mean?
ps, based on your response, you clearly are in no position to be teaching anyone about language, mkay
