  • my older sister was a fantatic and still is of aimee mann... what a talent. this song should have been a giant hit...thank goodness for youtube

  • Looks like they have dubbed the studio recording over a live performance for the video of the song. Aimee's voice is multi-tracked in parts, and the drummer probably has the metronomed tempo in his headphones to ensure it's synched.

  • uplifting well blended songs while I try to reflect our life

  • how many exquisite nights did I have with women that mirror this song? Many, that's why I'm single with a life full of amazing memories. Thank you to all those women.

  • Aime and her voice is exquisite...a punky angel....the best song by her....

  • Damn it! I have to listen to this every hour now... stunning voice.

  • driving up around ottawa, snow all around....till teus in the tape deck with this song playing. felt the oneness/aloneness of the place. by myself....gosh, this song sent chills up my spine. been a fan ever since. rock on aimmee......

  • What amazing eyes...

  • Aimee's actually a bass player she also went to school with my older brother and used to battle with my ex wife Lisa who ran the upstairs bar at the rattskeller in Kenmore sq in Boston

  • @seanzzo I love Aimee's humor, kind of witty most of the time.

  • Why the mindless strumming on the guitar and the nonexistent fret work your talent is singing. No one takes you more seriously because you have a guitar in your hands, Aimee is an amazing singer she does not need that prop. A lot of female singers think they need to have an instrument in their hands to be taken seriously I disagree, but thats just my opinion.

  • One of those lesser known songs from the 80s that deserved to be a bigger hit.I saw this group when they were first starting out in Columbus, Ohio. They were so good!

  • Sublime.

  • what makes charmin think that aimee mann listeners are their target demographics??

  • @HSECMAN Guess that is one step better than depends ?

  • welcome home...

  • LOVED Cocteau Twins!! How about The Sundays?? Martha and the Muffins?? all excellent extremely talented artists who DID NOT sell out...Aimee was probably THEE most well known and commercial of these...LOVE HER!!!

  • @fotoguy75 Given that you like the Cocteau Twins and The Sundays and Til Tuesday/Aimee Mann, I MUST give a listen to Martha and the Muffins.

I stopped listening to "new" music when it turned to merde about the mid-80s. So I missed a lot of good stuff. And also mountains of poo... Now I'm playing catch up and enjoying the good stuff.

  • Aimee is very talented and unappreciated, since she has not played the music industry's recording game.

  • I'm waiting for her to call me to come play bass with her... Ok, so it's been 25 years, but hey... I'm patient... Any day now...

  • Simply one of the most lovely voices, I would love to have wake me up in the morning.

  • @waislandres as well as a sweet melodic sense. Her voice sways you through ballads so wonderfully.

  • i dont know about you but she has one of the best voices in music history the last verse when she hits those notes makes the hair on my arms stand up wow

  • reminds me of missouri

  • I'm really surprised that no one else has commented on how this sounds like The Sundays...both amazing singers!

  • @royharrell Man, I hear Chrissye Hynde in her voice.

  • 1983 - I had a small crush on this cute punk girl with spiky bleached hair a purple braid who worked at Newbury Comics. Saw her weekly when I went in to pick up comics or look for new XTC imports. Imagine my surprise to see her step out on stage at the Metro at the BCN R&R Rumble. The power of her voice was just stunning. I'd gone to see my friend's band (The Phantoms, from Allston) but wasn't the least bit surprised when 'Til Tuesday won that night. I've always had a fondness for Aimee...

  • @RedwoodGeorge You must be from Boston.

  • I've played in female fronted bands all my life for some reason... (At this time, it was in Rhode Island) It just seemd to work out that way... I always loved covering this song AND voices carry... Always loved Aimee Mann... There was a much richer pool of artists then... Wonder what she's doing today...?

  • @Bassballs5 kickin ass and taking names, she has had a very succesful solo career.

  • aimee mann is such a good songwriter and singer

  • This song always brings me to tears and chills, missing the days and friends gone bye.And a real need to get back up to visit my old town in Rhode Island.

  • @MHBUG1 me too...Holliston MA

  • @MHBUG1 Hey...! ! ! Just curious... Where & when were you in RI, and who were the bands you listened to...?

  • In today's world of ITunes and MP3s I would never have bought this album and discovered a great song like this. Today we only hear what the industry wants to promote. Finding gems like this is so much harder now.

  • Love this song...love Aimee Mann. Seen her in concert many times and would love for her to play this.

  • It takes me back to a time when I wasn't getting any... Oh, how things have changed

  • Epic...............

  • "Welcome Home" was their best album! " Voices carry", hated the song, liked the rest of the album. Their Sophmore album was so more mature, great rock and folk songs,

  • I am haunted by the words and the delivery. the lyrics reberberate in my soul

  • sexy

  • Reminds of a true love I thought would last forever but only lasted a year, broke my heart forever. Heres to loving a girl that sadly just doesnt have the ability to love anyone. Shame what fatherly child sex abuse can do to girls soul. Take care of our baby girl. We really could have conqured the world.

  • One night in Iowa....

  • shes gorgeous

  • Check out Jeannie Burns doing this. At ithacarecords com jeannieburns

  • Jeannie Burns does it better.

  • @NealAGray WRONG!!

  • @NealAGray I tried to listen but the link to the mp3 on the website doesn't work.

  • @NealAGray Ummm no.

  • love this song. Love Aimee Mann

  • This is such a beautiful and soulful song ... Sometimes, I lay awake at night thinking about things that might have been in life ... I guess we all feel that way about life.

  • tears just flat out tears when i hear this siren a voice that is soo very beautiful

  • I love her voice ... so many memories from her songs from the 80s ...

  • and she;s lip synching this one!

  • The love of my life used to play this song for me and we would slow dance...

  • I love Love LOVE this song. I have since it came out. :) Thank you kindly for your post, I do appreciate it...

    -=W=-

  • I love this song! I've always felt that if Amy and her band woukld have been a little less 80's New Wave in their style and presentation and a little more earthy she would have been a force of great music much longer. Thank You for for posting one of my favorite songs!

  • Wow, they sound live just as good as they sound in their music videos and they sing without a backtrack. That's pretty impressive. You won't find a lot of bands like that today.

  • If they haven't already they should do a reunion tour!

  • the most beautiful eyes i have ever seen

  • @cavhoki One of the most beautiful women I have ever seen.

Amy is still alive, I hope she sees our posts and gets a little boost and a smile.

  • Amy Mann, what a talent! As good today as 25 years ago! My son is a musician and really likes many many bands and artists from this time period.Exposed to all this back in the day when MTV did music, and HV1. Expose as many as possible to this quality music!

  • Oh by the way...the government is not going to pay you any benefits after 2040...You young LAZY ONES better learn basic math.

  • In a just universe, this would have been a Top 10 follow up to "Voices Carry." Loved it then, loving it now :)

  • WOW!!!! Can't stop listening to this song...

  • I heard this tonight at Chili's on a good stereo, copied down the lyrics to google them and find on youtube. UNbelievable big sound they had, and the vocals !!! I honestly thought this was a brand new song and would be a best seller. Hope she is doing well and considers a comeback.

  • Definitely the best Til' Tuesday song ever....what beauty and utter magic this song has to offer! I remember as a kid in the 80"s feeling disappointed this didn't hit the top 40 (peaked in the 60's if I recall right) but time has done huge favors for "Coming up close" and now most smart people know that hit or no hit, this is a timeless melody and a lovely performance from Aimee in particular...

  • @Anthony420542 I agree, one of the best songs of the80s not to hit the top 40. If you think about it there were a lot of great songs back then that were not big hits. Loved Amie's hair.

  • @humboldtus Totally! Another song of theirs that deserved better was Looking over my shoulder. What were radio programmers thinking back then??

  • A-men

  • This is one of my all-time favorite songs.....A M A Z I N G

  • This is a live performance w/ the studio track. Listen to the lead vocal, the harmonies, the instrumentation - identical to the original.

  • ratters i agree beautiful song beautiful voice beautiful woman wow just a great song grea tperformance

  • I have never realized how beautiful she is. Wow.

  • @Pleaver I guess you never saw footage of her from back in the 80s until now.

  • Anything that I could say here I feel somehow that you all already know. ♥ Aimee Mann. Beautiful.

  • i listened to them in college but only the big hits I am just hearing a lot of this for the first time...OMG it is so moving. i am speechless

  • Superb song.

  • i have always loved the feel of this song, very nice music..

  • Aimee you have such a beautiful voice and this song is your best.... what happened to you? PLEASE come back!!!!!!!!

  • @rainsailing She's still playing on tour right now

  • @rainsailing she's touring... I'm going to see her this saturday in OREGON

  • Beautifully sad song. You want to sing along, and...not.

  • Aimee remains an emissary from a Higher Realm....

  • Feling blue? Hop on in ur car,,,add this track to your tunage,,,BAAM! Aimme will take you back home feelin...it'll be alright, :)

  • 2 people disliked this song!? WTF they must be deaf...

  • Brings back some great memories!

  • i have loved this song since the beginning which was in the mid 80's. i never understood why it was not heavily promoted. She must have pissed someone off, by making meaningful songs instead of airy pop songs. Damn you Aimee for being so intelligent!

  • @whimsicalocean Oh come on your comment is dumb, there was no conspiracy, just tons of bands... have you ever heard Cocteau Twins?, no very famous but still amazing band.

  • All I ever knew of Aimee was Voices Carry growing up in the 80's, but she has some incredible music! Til Tuesday or her solo stuff is just truly amazing!

  • it takes all i have in me to not break down and cry at this achingly poignant song. the talent it took to write this with such perfect words to convey the emotions in this song we've all experienced is just a gift. everyone please enjoy this masterpiece.

  • Saw them live in Boston before they made it big, and lived in same neighborhood as Aimee Mann. She was hot, and their music was great. This was one of many great songs, but a favorite of mine.

  • BEST SONG TILL TUESDAY DOMINICAN REPUBLIC ,,, LETS SAY JUST SAY MAOOO

  • I've never heard this one before, man, what a great song this is.... amazing, her voice is heart warming. This is a quality piece by the band.

    Aimee is diabolically hot!!

  • Wow. This song is as gorgeous and lush as the first time I heard it. Hearing it now just takes me along for a beautiful ride.

  • Who are the 2 muppets that dont like this song? I guess they must be Justin Bieber fans.... GIVE ME A BREAK!!!!!!!

  • @2021697 No, they're just extremely sad cretins who are a waste of oxygen!!

  • @george1976ist I've seen Aimee Mann a few times. Last year in Dublin, she is still so talented and a great performer.

  • Times were better...awesome song...

  • @fttp21 thats because robert is 5'5"

  • @seagoat13 I woke with this song in my head a few days ago. I haven't heard it for maybe 15 years. Serious memories. I looked it up on youtube and saw your message. I feel much the same. I pray you find some resolution to the dreams you've maybe abandoned. I've only just recently started to see a bit of light after years of darkness and regret myself, and I thank you for sharing.

  • @necroticossuary

    Q.E.D.

  • I´m totally agree with you

  • This band was SO underrated. I remember moving to SoCal from Boston (til Tuesday's starting place) in the late 80's and playing this music. No one had heard of them and they, too, loved this awesome sound. This sound will resonate for decades....

  • super and great sound

  • just great.......

  • Ratters and Apathetic...you guys are so right. I love this song. It's possibly my favorite song of all time. Certainly in my top 10 best songs ever. The generation today just listen to all rehashed and re-stuidio'd mixed crap that all sounds the same. It's all so deriviative without any real form or substance. What kills me is when one young teen thinks "Avenged Seven-Fold" or "Lady Throw-up" is origninal and it's not. Til Tuesday was and is and always will be so incredible and timeless.

  • A very beautiful song, sung by a beautiful woman.A band who deserved better, and a time that unfortunately has been lost.

  • I was in my twenties during the 80's and loved that music and the whole 80's scnene. However, it was'nt until recently I became aware of Till Tuesday , Amy Mann and this specatcular song.

  • Robert Holmes GREAT Player!

  • This is one of the best songs ever. It's perfect!

  • One of the most underrated and underplayed bands of the 1980's. Good high-quality music.

  • OMG!!! LOVE THIS SONG!!!! JUST BEAUTIFUL.

  • Oh wow.. she's the one that sings this song? Was this covered in the last 10-15 years or is this song that old? She sounds like Martha Davis from The Motels. I remember the band Til Tuesday and I might even have a song of theirs because I confuse them with The Motels but I looked her up tonight because of the backup she did for Rush and she looks to be wearing the exact same getup and hair style/makeup in this video as that one. You forget a lot of stuff in 25 years I guess. Or I do

  • Yes this is the BEST song ever! Enjoyed many nights driving listening to Aimee cranked on the tape deck (had dolby, no hiss) were great times.

  • rebbeca black disliked this

  • This is one of the absolute best songs ever recorded. Period.

  • She maybe the most talented woman in music - listen to the lyrics, listen to the tunes! Maybe her and Carol King are the two best!! I love this song and most of Aimee's other tunes!

  • I heard shes missing a toe.

  • @jmills1215 No she isn't. You heard wrong. She played a character who was missing a toe in a movie once.

  • I saw this video in vh1 this morning. Great song. I remember it from high school. It's that beautiful voice. Damn, I'm getting old.

  • @Reagan1rocks Join the club. I was a frosh in college.

  • this is such a sad and haunting song..a song of hope and loss...Aimee is beautiful with an angels voice...She makes these co called women singers nowdays sound like crap...so much talent, so many great songs, to be so under rated.

It says a LOT about the US music industry..Keep up the good work Aimee, a lot of people love your talent.

  • @xepobnha66 Isn't it though? "We drove up to a pump house that had long since been deserted, and carved our hearts into the wood . . . " Reminds me of being young again - which will never happen. Reminds me of driving thousands of miles from New York to Utah, but that in Kansas, or maybe Iowa, I was halted by the quiet solitude of the highway west. I stopped at a pump house near the road - the day was cloudy, and I walked about an abandoned farm. Hearts were carved into the neglected wood.

  • Til Tuesday has great songs!! Aimee is GORGEOUS!!!!

  • if she were born a man, you think her level of fame would have altered? Regardless, it's a shame her and the great band she was in didn't get the credit they deserved when they were producing such fabulous music.

  • @wylwrk You just gave them the credit they deserve. It means just as much coming from you as any industry analyst.

  • One of my all time favorite songs. I'm glad there's a fan-base out there for Aimee Mann and the Til Tuesday music. I have a playlist on my iPod of her stuff just for working out. I must look funny on the treadmill at around 29 minutes with my face all contorting: "Don't you know that I could make a dream that's half alive come true?" Her lyrics are absolutely amazing.

  • I love this song..... I may have felt like home was no longer the "home" I longed to be at...but I am certainly willing to look at the possibilities that home can become "home" again... :D)))

  • Teams of professional song writers could never write a song his brilliant!

  • a godess, so angelic pure love

  • not too hard she sings from the heart as though she telling a tale of past experiences and she,s georgeous to boot.

  • In my opinion, her best! Listen to it often.

  • Oddly enough it comforts me that this song didn't get much fanfare. It's like an intimate secret shared with a lover. Just between the two of you and the Moon. On the rare occasion I do hear this song on the radio it brings me right back to a particular time and place in my life. The immaculate bitter-sweet lyrics and beautifully arrangement invoking feeling we all can identify with. Everything about this song is so tangible, Just a perfect song.

  • @DeadBunny69 Well said.

  • Some of my favorite songs of all time are not mega hits. But is that such a bad thing? So what if the masses haven't heard this great music. It is our little corner of the world that is lucky enough to have it for ourselves. Enjoy.

  • This song brings back so many memories...

  • it's ok that she hasn't gotten the accolades; she's gotten the proper appreciation of those able to hear her. why would she want a horde of morons thinking they could perceive depths they were incapable of penetrating. at least i don't think she would. we always fictionalize our idols. or is it idolize our fictions? i saw her play this song live in a small club many years ago. it was lovely.

  • I LOVE her voice. One of my fave bands...great 80s memories.

  • This song is a masterpiece.

  • Thank you for posting this outstanding and now found 80's tune. Actually added it to my country music playlist as well. Amazing artist.

  • great song - lyrics are meaningful and the music is very pleasing to listen to.

  • This is one of the best songs of the 80's............that most people have never heard of. Spread the word !!!

  • Sad thing is, poor kids of today will never know quality music like this ...

really so sad ..... As I age I have very few things that health and diabettes isnt taking away from me.

Adleast I have the quality music to take me back to a better time, when all was new and the world hadnt crushed all my hopes and dreams ...

What a voice and a time. Lucky I lived it !

  • @apatheticempathy: Listen, there is still great music out there today. Stop being such a geezer! LOL. I'm forty-three and I like plenty of recent music. Besides, Aimee Mann is still around, writing and performing great songs. To find good music you have to dig a little deeper through the steaming piles of sh*t that is "commercial". I remember when this album came out. It tanked, which is a damn shame because it's awesome. But it didn't have "hit" potential.

  • @apatheticempathy I couldn't agree more. I'm currently getting divorced from a cheating wife. Can't get the kids because of the traveling I do for my job. I had my whole life ahead of me when this song came out. God..how things change. But I'm still a big part of their lives so that's a good thing. I'll take the positives when I can.

  • @apatheticempathy I could not agree with you more, born in 1960, I enjoyed the late 60s though the 80s. Great music, my kids listen to Rap that makes me sick. I ask my son, listen to the words it is sick. he is 18 , he does love the Bee Gee's. I have had Cancer, and other health issues. I did not know how well I had it looking back, but I have memoies I would not take anything for, music, friends, I still in contact with after knowing each other for 47 years. I am blessed to listen and go back.

  • Very eccentric but what a beautiful rhythm of lyrics.

  • I'm so sick of that G6 commercial

  • love this song! it's hilarious that when they show the backs of the audience's head, everyone has big hair, probably female and male. Aimee has some of the most brittle/fried hair of the 80s, still love her though :)

  • this song still breaks my heart after all this time

  • Well said Lunatic. Simply a beautiful, well written and well sung song.

  • Comment removed

  • Very Underrated song!!

  • Very Underrated song!!

  • One of my favorite non-hit songs of the 80s. Loved Amie's hair back then. I'm glad her career survived the 80s, even though I think her solo music has been a bit uneven. Till Tuesday was a great band that should have been around to at least the end of the decade.

  • @humboldtus

Give her solo stuff a good solid chance. It took me several "listens" to really appreciate it because it is just not very complicated lyrically or musically to me. But I'm totally hooked. She's amazing in Til' Tues. and amazing on her own. :)

  • Just wondering if anyone else here on YouTube was there when they won the WBCN Rock & Roll Rumble in 1983?

  • I was in high school in Billerica Mass. and knew about it. When Aimee sang in the RUSH song Time Stand Still, it was magic for me.

  • @salemhobbit

I was there and remember the channel in Boston where they used to have battle of the bands somewhere I still have a WCOZ sticker

    she has a beautiful voice

brings me back to the old days

  • too bad it lip syncing - but still one of my favorite songs of all time...was on my mix tape of sad break up songs for many years (made in 1987)

  • I'd sell my soul for a chance to go back to the 80's. Everything was better then. The music of the 80's was, at it's worst better than 99% of the crap being made today. This song is better than every song that's been released in the last 20 years. I had such a thing for Aimee too.

  • dreamwolf - "You Know the Rest" Awesome song along with "Sleep"!! Aimee Mann and Til Tuesday are in my top five favorite bands! What great tunes! Talent like this just doesn't carry these days and wasn't marketed then - but there are plenty of us out there that know great talent when we hear it...and this is it - I get chills everytime i hear her voice!

  • ...Absolute brilliance....

  • how did they not get noticed? How did they not make it?? wow...

  • yes there are many of us aimee mann fans out here....but what people seem to miss,is how awesome of a songwriter she really is,its too bad the record industry ruined them, they never gave them a chance, but at least you people out here can see through all the muck,.....listen to her other song YOU KNOW THE REST it will make you cry....very emotional, long live the 80s.
