Thanks so much for the instruction! I've had 3 ponds of pork back fat in the freezer for a couple of months. Just pulled it out of the freezer and can't wait to make the wonderful cooking oil!!
@FamilyGoingRaw YOUR A DOUCHEBAG... GROW UP AND EAT SOME MEAT. LARD IS BETTER THAN ANY VEG FAT FOR YOU... ESPECIALLY THE COMMERCIAL GARBAGE... YOU GO CHEF FRANKY!
I don't see my previous comment posted, but oh well. Lard is been misunderstood for a long time, it is a great fat, healthy for you that has been used for thousnads of years and nobody used to have heart disease or diabetes. It is the factory fats that make one fat. Anyways, I just rendered my own lard too, my question is for how long does it last in the fridge? Thanks
@martanavarrete I completely agree with you! As far as how long to keep in the fridge, I am not to sure.. I have never too much at one time that I couldn't consume within a few months. If its in the fridge it should last a good long while. If anything give it a smell or a little taste. If it smells rancid, then get rid of it...
@StopStealingVideos Here in Turkey they don't do pig, but they do the same thing with lamb fat. The cracklings that are left are called kıkırdak, and they're great. They make buns that have cracklings in them. Don't know how "heart-friendly" a steady diet of cracklings are but hell, you only live once. (Unless you're a Buddhist. But if you can't remember cholestorol-filled delights from previous lives, then what's the point in avoiding them in this one?)

In soul food it's cracklings that get put in the peas or the greens - chitlins are intestines. :)

I rendered some fat back today. I love the stuff. Got 1/2 cups worth. I save all my bacon grease too. Good healthy eatin'!

Frank, come back to the farm and we'll film the piggies on their way to becoming lard. Oh and please tie your hair back next time. :)
