This song made what I thought were gosh-awful Tonys this year somewhat worthwhile. Though I wish Next to Normal really had won Best Musical.

Those weren't necessarily the "real winners". They wrote multiple versions of the lyrics for NPH's song. Some of the guesses here were right (3 Billys, Alice Ripley etc.), others were not (Jane Fonda). So I'm positive they didn't actually know the winners beforehand. ;)

Well, the "winners" he sung about were only educated guesses. Case in point: Next to Normal didn't end up winning Best Musical, Jane Fonda didn't win either and so on...
