Truck Engine? Pfffft. First time I've ever heard that.
It was designed from the get-go as an economy passenger car engine, laid over 30 degrees so the new economy small car (the Q-Series Valiant) could have a low bonnet (hood) line, and originally had a capacity of 170 cubic inches.
The AT-2 truck variant came in the later 225 RG block.
@PiDsPagePrototypes -- Interesting. I had read in several places that the engine was a redesign of an existing (full upright) truck/tractor engine, but obviously substantially redesigned and slanted to fit under the hood of then-modern low profile sedans. I'll see if I can't get more info. Thanks for the input!
I have owned like 3 of those valiants could kick myself for letting them go.I never knew they were as big and popular as they are.I got a 74 plymouth valiant v8 dull .I mite drop a slant in it them it will be worth something...
@arkansastrash320 They're classics, now. Another reason I loved mine -- which looked almost identical to the brown with beige topped Val in the weeds at the end -- was that it was a total grandpa car -- at a time when I really didn't want any extra attention driving around late at night... er... nothing nefarious... I was moonlighting as a recording engineer. But those late night curb checks did cut into what little sleep time I could cadge... ;-)
Oh yeah... you couldn't tell me jack when I was young. LOL I was actually pretty wised up by the time I had the Valiant -- in fact, that's WHY I had the valiant. I'd had fun, quirky cars before... and they were ultimately a huge pain in the neck. Or someplace. LOL

The song is "Slant Six Valiant" by (my band) one blue nine. I added a link to the band website/blog in the vid's info box.
